I have been recording for about 15+ years and was patiently awaiting for this version of Logic to arrive. I know apple has been scrambling to get closer to what digidesign's Pro-Tools can do and all I have to say is WOW!!! The upgrade install time was way fast; unlike waiting 4 hours for Logic Studio 8 to install. They've included everything you need to get a professional sounding song right out of the box and killed a lot of plug-in competitors along the way. The amp designer rivals that of Ik Multimedia's Amplitube series. The flex tool....WOW!!! No more scissor tool for this guy. Drum replacer....SICK!!! You don't even need third party plug-ins i.e. Drumtracker from Toontrack to get midi conversion of audio files. This is by far a warm welcome for me and did I mention you can easily... and I do mean easily import your channel strip settings from other projects? Don't hesitate and wait to get this if you are serious about recording. This is the hottest thing out right now and I can't imagine anything being better than this with out waiting another year or two. Pro-Tools 8 just plain stinks against Logic 9. Midi recording is superior in Logic and the sound libraries are HUGE!!! I will never step back to the dark side of Pro-Tools again. Way to go LOGIC 9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This DAW is outdated already.There is so much to be improved all around
Apple we mostly buy your hardware to use your software, if the software does not satisfy users then we do not need apple hardware. Logic have got great competitors these days who improved quite well their daws.
Logic is a good piece of daw but for 2012 missing some very important features.....for example to not be able to edit multiple midi clips.........

Anyway you can still make a great music in Logic but it would have been greater if we could look at much better graphic and much more logical way of using the software.

I have been a performing musician for 30 years and owned a small demo studio in LA back in the 80's. In those days we had physical racks of MIDI-controlled synths, plugs, and mixers. I sunk $30K into my old studio and was able to get decent sounding demos cut using tape.

In the early 90's I got out of the recording business and only in 2007 did I decide to give it another try. I bought a 15" MacBook Pro laptop and started playing around with GarageBand 3 to "get my feet wet". I loved the ease of making music in GarageBand but found it to be somewhat limited. A friend of mine was using Logic Pro 7 and while I was amazed by the power of LP7, I found the GUI daunting.

I thought that if Logic was redesigned to have a GarageBand-like front end, I would take the plunge. I procrastinated long enough that Apple rolled out my "dream DAW" in LP8. Logic now had a GarageBand-like user friendly GUI, a price cut from $999 to $499, AND included all the Jam Packs. At this point it was a no-brainer.

Now after over 2 years of using Logic, I can say without hesitation that I have never used such diverse, high quality, and stable software in my life. My "day job" is SW engineering so I am well aware of how much goes into a complex program like Logic. The fact that it all plays together so well in such a user friendly way is a testament to the Apple/Emagic design team.

LP affords me to record crystal clear vocals and guitars (getting good Mic/PreAmp is essential) to an infinite number of drum tracks (either loops, UltraBeat creations, or pounding the rhythms in using a drum pad MIDI controller). Logic also has a HUGE array of synthesizers, guitar amps, and sound shaping/analysis plugs. For the type of music I do (solo singer/songwriter) I have more than enough sounds to embellish any style of music I plunge into.

And with Loops I can "sketch out" songs quickly while the inspiration is "fresh".

And once the recordings are complete the "fun" really starts with mixing and mastering the song into a "CD quality" production. Logic affords me to perform "micro-surgery" in both the Audio and MIDI domains. And the MIDI editing capabilities are even more powerful than my old Hybrid Arts SMPTE TRK Pro SW which in its day, was considered to be "state of the art" in MIDI software. It becomes very easy to experiment with different arrangements.

If you are on the fence about buying Logic, jump in. You will be glad you did and you can get on with what matters most...making music.

I've been using logic for 12 years. I recently upgraded to Lion and intel mac and thats when everything started to go wrong. Constant crashing, hanging and graphic errors.

I'm not happy that the more money I spend with apple the worse the software gets.

Logic itself is great but the stability within Lion is a big big problem for me.

I Have Pro Tools 8 LE and i've tried Logic Pr 9.. after trying logic i found it was very well packed with the tools u need for quick and easy composing recording and ediiting!!!

the Mastering Utilities alone are worth $500 dollars...

Any diehard Protools user should still buy Logic for the mastering software.... MultiPress is indispensible.....and all the mastering presets are a great time saver....(just bounce your final mix and import it into Logic for mastering).

When it comes to MIDI...Logic's "humanize" function works perfectly.....the performance has to be correct but "humanize" will make a MIDI track sound organic...I record MIDI in Logic then bounce the track into Protools if I need to....

If you have good preamps.....your recordings will sound top notch!!!

I have been producing music on logic since before Apple acquired it from the previous developer.

I purchased Logic Pro 7 from Apple for $1000, and i have since spent another $500+ in "upgrades" to get to the current format of logic Pro 9. Shortly after my reluctant upgrade from 8 to 9, Apple released a promotional price of $300 for the entire program. That is just a little more than I paid to upgrade. Still no discount for upgrades though. In short loyal long time customers have now paid over $1,500.00 to get a $300 program. A slight kick in the pants for its Pro oriented customers. As a pro user you can add 7 computers, 4 iphones, 3 ipads and some ipods to that shopping cart as well.

In that time I have watched Apple drop Key production features out of Logic in order to make room for programming codes that dumb down the DAW interface and create undesired glitches within the frame of what was an excellent platform from Emagic.

Now that Mac has solidified its abandonment of the professional grade market by dropping the mac pro and pretty much all R&D for Logic as well, I find myself more and more disappointed with logics performance. Another product that has let go of functionality for aesthetics.

I have, in fact, spent well over 40 hours reverting and reformatting my system back to Snow Leopard (very difficult as Mac firmware no longer supports reverse compatibility) but also reverting logic to a version of LP9 that is stable within that operating system. I had to do this as there is no version of LP9 that works properly in any operating system after SL.

OS 10.6.8 + Logic 9.1.6/7 is the most stable combo that will run on intel based Mac. Trust me.. I tried the rest. I would prefer to go back to logic pro 7 but once again No reverse compatibility.

Hopefully the 2software developers... Yes two... still working on logic will at least make it stable again so we can finish our mixes and move to another software manufacturer.

Sorry Mac but after years of total loyalty you left me and the Professional market out in the cold.

For the price, it's hard to beat how exhausting Logic's features are. Coming from an audio (as opposed to MIDI or software instrument) perspective, I've been impressed with how extensive Logic's editing features are. I've been delighted with the ungodly amount of very good plugins and samples that come with it. I'm also thrilled to have automatic latency compensation with plugins, an easy way to disable latency -inducing plugins when recording and using software monitoring. It doesn't suffer from the limitations of ProTools LE like limited track count, limited number of inputs and having to compensate for latency manually.

My only qualms are some minor glitches while dragging regions, automation sometimes not playing back properly and a few sluggish UI instances.

By and large however, I highly recommend this software. I don't think I would go back to ProTools, even if I could afford ProTools HD.

Fantastic now. I also can now forget about PT or DP. Logic 9 now has everything I've been waiting for. POWERFUL!!
