    I like it but...

When I bought my iMac I was expecting to replace the mighty mouse because I have high standards for mouse ergonomics. I was surprised that I liked the mighty mouse's low profile, which took the strain off my mouse hand. Over the year I had it, I had to clean the scroll ball a couple of times when it got dirty, but it was not hard to clean.

I just sold my iMac and bought a unibody Macbook, keyboard, mouse, and 24" cinema display. My complaint about the mighty mouse: The length of the cord is not listed in the specs for the product, and I find this inexcusable. I had to read many reviews to find out the cord was "short". It is not as short as the cord on the mouse shipped with the iMac. For those who need to know, the cord is about 28 inches long: too short to use with the notebooks having USB ports on the left, and about a foot too long to use with the wired keyboard.

    Just broke.

Well I have had my iMac for about a year now. And the mouse came with the computer. But the mouse finally broke. It didn't come as a shock because the reviews that I read said that the scroller on the mouse would become unresponsive. But anyway, I would think that a mouse could last longer than just one year. That is why I gave it a 3 out of 5. But I got a lot of use out of this mouse so it is not a terrible product. Just expect it to last about a year or so.

My scroll ball is dead. I have cleaned it and cleaned, and nothing. I have had the mouse for about four months I think. That is unfortunately so often the case with Apple produts - they just don't last.

    Mighty "Dissapointment"

Any person who knows the feeling of falling in love with Apple creations also must agree that when everything works together it is even better. I bought an iMac last year for my wife to use and to work with my Macbook Pro. The Mighty Mouse was an obvious choice to buy to go with the iMac, but has only been mediocre at best.

While the design is fantastic if you are desiring simplicity, it primarily has to work. Within the first three months of normal use, the scroll ball will no longer scroll down, only up. Not only is that frustrating but it's annoying as well because it makes me not want to purchase another mouse to to replace it.

My advice, spend $20-30 on a different mouse that will undoubtedly last much much longer than this one will.

    Apple Cares

Having read many reviews slating the scrollball for clogging with dirt quickly, I braced myself for the worst this morning when I bought mine. Opening the box, the first thing I see is a sheet printed separately from the manual which reads: ATTENTION - YOU MAY NEED TO CLEAN YOUR MIGHTY MOUSE FROM TIME TO TIME. I assume this is Apple acknowledging customer complaints, and doing the cheapest thing possible.

On another note, my first impression of the feel of the mouse isn't as brilliant as i'd hoped. The squeeze buttons ruin the ergonomic feel slightly, and the USB cable barely reaches around the back of my macbook - Not a problem if you are left handed.

But you wouldn't care about its problems- you (alike I) only bought this for that little apple sat proud atop it. End of the day, it's a mouse and I can only hope it lasts long enough to justify the money I spent on it.

My experience is pretty much the same as everybody elses, while it works the mouse and especially the scroll ball are brilliant. However, after about six months the scroll ball broke and now won't go down, this is a major defect that Apple needs to rectify and soon.

overall the mighty mouse looks like it should be flawless.
it scrolls good the 2 sides buttons are good too.
but the wheel has allot of problems most of the time it doesn't want to scroll up or down.
i'm on my second mighty mouse since I bought my imac
apple didn't wastle no time in getting me a new one though.
however my second one is already acting up I think it's a design flaw.
this is the only thing I have had from apple that wasn't great.
    keep trying apple.

Engineering issues need to be addressed

I'm on my third one in two years. And the one I have now has also succumbed to lousy engineering. It's the infamous trackball issue. So I will now need to replace it as well. This time the ball won't even move forward. That makes four in two years. Surely, an innovative company like Apple is capable of designing a piece of hardware that lasts more than six months. If I could figure out how to disassemble the thing I would fix it myself.

so, i got an imac for my birthday when i turned 16, it's less than a month from my 18th birthday now, and the scroll ball on my mouse is giving out and has been for a few months. it doesn't seem to like to scroll down anymore. big problem since clearly every page i basically have to scroll down on. but overall it's pretty good, just needs a new way to not have the scroll break.. aka the newest mouse!

Not great, but not as bad as indicated here

This mouse is alright, but the new magic mouse is better. It is true that the wheel often gets dirty, but this is an easy fix (albeit a pain in the rear). All you need to do is turn the mouse over and press down firmly while rolling the wheel against the paper to clean it; this will restore the wheel's functionality. I feel kinda bad for the people that just tossed their mice out when a simple google search would have yielded a solution.

Ehhh... Worked okay for a while and then KABOOM!

I really, really wanted to like my Mighty Mouse. When I got my iMac in the mail, the mouse was the first thing I wanted to try out - not the computer. And it was fabulous for that first week - I was just in love with that scroll ball; it was so helpful in Photoshop, among other things. Then I started noticing that the side buttons were super, super sensitive. I figured I could live without them, so I turned them off in Sys Prefs. Then the scroll ball started clogging up. No biggie, I could turn the mouse upside down and roll it around until it started working again.... right?
Anyways, long story short, seven months later... the scroll ball WILL NOT unclog. No matter how I try, it's just stuck. I'm scared to take it apart, so I'm using an old Microsoft mouse now. I wonder if the Magic Mouse will be any better?

It's a really nifty mouse but has issues.

There is a reason most mice have the traditional scroll wheel and multiple buttons. This is fun to use but I would suggest a good Logitech mouse if you want reliable. For gaming, MX518 or G9. They are also great for simple tasks as well. I put a LOT of HARD use on my MX518 and it STILL works 4 years later....I'm wearing the plastic off of it. The Apple mouse is good for those who simply check their email every day and that's about it. It has too many problems with lack of real buttons and the scroll ball thing.

    Overall Great Mouse

Mouse worked awesome for the first few months.

Right-click takes some time to get used to but I just turned it off.

Only downside is that the scroll wheel which is VERY similar to that of the Blackberry scroll-wheels, has like gotten dulled down and sometimes it wont scroll up and it wil only be able to go down, or vice versa..

other than that...overall an awesome product!

Clean the ball as Apple recommends, but then gently spray a little WD-40 on the ball, works great for me to restore life to this 15 month old mouse.

Ok great idea with the 5 Buttons but the cord is too short and the right click has too small of a surface area. I would say 3.5 if i could.

    Great....when it works!

These are great mice/mouses (you chose). Perfectly ergonomically designed and beautiful to look at. However after a few months of 'normal' use, the scroll ball will pack up. The reason for this is that the mechanism inside gets clogged up with dirt. For a while you can get by if you use a little drop of Apples LCD cleaner solution. Putting a little on your finger and scrolling the ball to coat it. Eventually though, this too will cease to free the scroll ball when it sticks again.

Sadly, Apple in their wisdom have sealed these mice so in order to properly clean the scroll mechanism you must literally break the seals on the the little grey ring at the base of the unit. It's relatively easy from then on to take it apart and clean the mech every so often but the mouse will never look as pretty as it did when you bought it.
If Apple only made one of these with a scroll ball that was completely sealed making it impossible for the dirt to get in, then this product would be perfect.

well, just got this mouse for a week. it is brand new
first of all, I have to say, the look of this mouse is perfect, there is no doubt about it.

    but..
the inside of this thing is not as sophisticated as it looks like.
First, the scroll ball, as you might have read on the apple website, it can do a 360 degree scrolling(you have to enable it in preferences). well It could,
    but..
it is not what you might have imagined, the scrolling is not very smooth especially when you do a 45 degree scrolling, it's kinda slow and unpredictable, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

secondly, it is the right click or "secondary button", it is also unpredictable, sometimes you have to put your finger way right to get a right-click, if it's not right enough it may think it is a left click, this may be quite
    annoying when browsing websites.

Apple's stuff have always been so perfect and sophisticated, so I expected a lot on this mighty mouse.
If this mouse is from another brand, it could be a successful product. but it's apple, it should be way better than this.

If you don't mind your mouse doesn't match the look of your mac,and spending a little bit more, get a logitech.
    but..
    I do mind.
