Best AnswerIf you are refering to Snow Leopard then the answer is no. However you can upgrade your computers RAM depending on the model. Go to the online store and select Mac accesories on the left, then select Memory, then select your model (don't bother if your Mac is not intel based)
Select your model and buy another 512MB Ram chip if you can. I recommend getting a 2gig chip- Answered by David M from Sydney

I am running 10.5.8 and want to update, is mountain lion, lion, or snow leopard the best choice?

Best AnswerIf your Mac does not have an Intel processor, you can not upgrade to any of them.
If your Mac has an Intel processor (any Intel processor) and at least 1 GB of memory, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard. (After install do "Software Updates" to bring up to OS 10.6.8.) You need Snow Leopard installed in order to upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion.
(I am not certain whether Snow Leopard can be installed on Macs released after the introduction of Lion in mid-2011, at least not so that Snow Leopard supports all hardware features of newer Macs. But if you have OS 10.5.8, your Mac was introduced before 2011.)
I don't think Lion is available for purchase anymore.
If your Mac was released after mid-2007, and you have at least 2 GB of memory AND Snow Leopard OS 10.6.8 (or Lion) installed, then you can upgrade to Mountain Lion. Search the Apple website for "System Requirements for OS X Mountain Lion" for more details.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

I am running 10.5.8 and want to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Do I need to purchase snow leopard, Lion & then Mountain Lion?
- Asked by Darlene F from Hazlet

Best AnswerNo, you just need to update to Snow Leopard (10.6), and then update to 10.6.8 through software updates. From there you will gain the Mac App Store which you will be able to buy Mountain Lion. There are some prerequisites for ML, which you may find at Apple's main site, go to "Mac" tab, choose Mountain Lion, and Tech Specs next to the "Upgrade Now" button. Your computer must be one of the supported models, as well as having 2 GB of RAM.

Best Answer
Partially.
"Snow Leopard" is Apple's codename for OS 10.6.
The disc may actually be OS 10.6.3, but when installed, simply go to the Apple Menu and select Software Update and it will update to OS 10.6.8.
(Note: Some internet references indicate that it is not recommended to attempt to "downgrade" a Mac introduced after the release of Lion, as Snow Leopard may not support all features of the newer hardware.)- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

I have an old iMac running 10.5.8. I just bought my son a MacBook that runs 10.6.6. Can I use his install disk to upgrade my older machine to 10.6?
- Asked by Peter B from Denver

Best AnswerIt depends. If your iMac is an iMac G5 or G4 ("Luxo lamp"), then no, 10.5.8 is the last version of Mac OS those models will run. If your iMac has an Intel processor, then YES, all Intel iMacs can run Snow Leopard.
To find out for sure, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu, then click More Info. If the "Model Identifier" is listed as "iMac4,1" or anything higher (iMac4,2 or iMac5,1 for example) then you have an Intel iMac.- Answered by Donald J from Vancouver

Is the Snow Leopard installation disc 10.6.3 or 10.6.8?
I recently bought a Mac OS X Snow Leopard installation disc and they say that it runs 10.6.3. My computer runs Mac OS X 10.6.8. If I used this disc on the computer, will it affect the operating systems negatively at all? Or will it work with no problems?

Answernope i saw that it upgrades to 10.6.8 unless your computer is old, then it might be unable to upgrade to 10.6.8 so thats why it would upgrade to 10.6.3

I have OS X 10.4.11 and want to update to Snow Leopard. Can I still do this online? Is everything available?

Best AnswerYou need to have the Snow Leopard install disk. Snow Leopard is not available as a download.
You can upgrade directly to Snow Leopard from Tiger. I did. But I did not install "over" the OS 10.4.11 install. Snow Leopard may need to reformat the partition it is going on to, so I created a new partition for the Snow Leopard install. During install, the installer searched my mac for all other partitions with an OS on it. Then it asked if I wanted to import OS settings, apps and files from that partition. Do this. You will then end up with a dual boot Mac, one that can be started up from either OS 10.4.11 or OS 10.6. You may remove the OS 10.4.11 partition once you are satisfied that all apps, drivers, etc work the way you expect them to in Snow Leopard.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

I have an Imac with OS10.5.8, How do I upgrade to the latest operating system?
Is snow leopard the most recent OS? how do I get the most recent installed?
- Asked by Stephanie S from Sacramento
- Dec 11, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerLion (OS 10.7) is the most recent OS.
But, you must have Snow Leopard (OS10.6.6 or later) installed before you can install Lion. Snow Leopard requires an Intel processor and 1GB of memory. Lion requires at least an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB of memory. Snow Leopard only comes via DVD. Lion only comes via download.
So, if you have the minimum hardware requirements, then buy the Snow Leopard DVD and do that upgrade. Do software updates to bring it up to OS 10.6.8. Then go to the online Apple Store and download Lion to upgrade.
Please note: Lion discontinues support for Rosetta, so older apps will not run. You may want to have two partitions on your iMac with a clone of your Snow Leopard OS on each. Then upgrade only one of the partitions to Lion. That way you can still start up in Snow Leopard if you need to run an older app.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

If I installed the new Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard does it delete all my files and stuff in the laptop ?

Best AnswerNo. The space that you gain will be from trimming down the operating system itself. Your files remain untouched. That said, take it from a professional network administrator: I've never seen a backup cause data loss.

AnswerYou have the 27" iMac with Model ID: imac10.1 . It came with at least 4 GB of memory.
It had Snow Leopard pre-installed (Snow Leopard is OS 10.6)
If Snow Leopard has been updated to OS 10.6.8 (or you upgraded to Lion (OS 10.7) in meantime) you can download and install Mountain Lion (OS 10.8). (Note: "Lion" is now a legacy product at Apple.)- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

how can i upgrade my mac OS X 10.5.8?
would like to upgrade my system from OS X 10.5.8, to be more compatible with new printers, etc.. how do i go about doing this?
- Asked by Vicki E from Ligonier
- Nov 25, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerVickie E. - this depends - if your Mac has an Intel processor then you can purchase the OSX 10.6 and install that - this should cover your situation for newer printers.
Now another way to look at this is to check with the printer in question and see if they have driver software for Mac OSX . This may require you to visit the printer support website and see if they have an installer package for Macintosh and what versions of OSX they support.
It would be a shame to purchase OSX Snow Leopard and find out that the printer you want to use is not supported for OSX no matter what version of OSX you have. Believe it or not : not all printers work w Mac OSX.- Answered by John A from Santa Clara
