can apple tv handle 24-bit/192kHz hd audio without compression to 16-bit/48 kHz?
I want to liten to HD Audio from my computer to my stereo. Most wireless interphases compress the signal down to 16-bit/44-48kHz and this is not acceptable. I need at least 24-bit/96-192kHz. The audio out from the apple tv to my stereo should be able to handle up to 24-bit/96-192kHz.

Does my computer need to be running to use Apple TV? Or can the Apple TV device store media or access the iCloud directly?

Best Answer
When Steve Jobs introduced Apple TV, he said people don't want another computer. Apple TV is an independent device that connects to your iCloud and iTunes account wirelessly through the air, and uses these services independently. If you want to share photos and music directly from your computer than yes, but other than that your Apple TV is its own device.

Does Apple TV work well with satellite ISPs?
I use HughesNet satellite ISP service and am severely restricted on download speed and usage (sometimes as poor as dial-up and always restricted to 250 MB during a 24 hour period). I have no other options for ISP and am interested to hear of other HughesNet users that have Apple TV. I am concerned that the routine problems I face will deter from my enjoyment of Apple TV. The download speed is so poor that I can not run routine updates at home and have to take my computer to the Apple store! Obviously my use of the Cloud is totally out of the question. (Please don't take that as a "rant" against my ISP -- simply a statement of fact to help you understand my situation).
Will I find the features of Apple TV, that i will be able to use, worthwhile? Thanks for your input!- Asked by Carolyn A from East Berne

I have Hughesnet too. I agree with you regarding the restrictions that Hughesnet has. Their speeds are nothing to brag about. I recently (last week) upgraded my system to their Gen4 satellite. It is AMAZING to say the least. I am getting almost 10 Mbps instead of the 1 Mbps download speed prior to my upgrade. I don't know if this is available to you yet but is well worth the upgrade.
I have not tried to download a movie yet since it is still pretty new to me but have downloaded a 1.3 Gig file for an Apple update and it went flawlessly. I am just now purchasing an AppleTV to give it a try.
There is a place on the Hughesnet web site to see if the Gen4 is available in your area. I would HIGHLY recommend this if you can.- Answered by Reid E from Elk

Yes you can play all the content that allows you to do so (not every app does ie.Lovefilm) on any of those devices through a single appleTV - provided they are all on the same WI-FI network. I have 2 Imacs, ipad2, iphone 3gs and iphone 4 all streaming to my TV through apple TV (though not at the same time of course).
Hope this helps.- Answered by Stephen M

Answer
It depends what service you are using.
iTunes - yes,
Netflix yes, but it's built into Apple TV anyway.
LoveFilm no, only sends audio no picture probably due to software restrictions.
SkyGo - no, due to software restrictions.
BBC iPlayer - no, not supported.
Blinkbox - no, not supported.
I'm not sure about the others as the above ones I use, Hope this helps.- Answered by Simon R
