Don't they realize that people buy these accessories mostly to do demos of apps, or to mirror whatever's on their device's screen? This basic scenario does not work with this adapter. I found that it only works when playing video, or if you're a developer and you write special code in your app to support an external screen. So buyer beware...

I upgraded to IOS on I use the Mac and iPad to connect to external monitors for presentations, videos and showing Internet sites. I upgraded to IOS on my iPad 3. Now I am shocked to learn it will not support the Apple adapter that I used with IOS 7. I cannot find any information on whether Apple intends to fix it. I also cannot find any information on a viable alternative. I am stuck.

Since downloading the 8.0.2 update, I have not been able to use this. Either nothing at all happens or I get a message saying it is not supported by this device (iPad 2). I have had the same issue with my generic HDMI adapter which worked fine before the update as well.

Meanwhile, my three-year old Toshiba laptop connects just fine and displays whatever I want it to.

Apple is roaring into the 1990s like no-bodies' business.

Worked very well up to the latest upgrade of iOS 7.1.2, now just gives "this accessory is not supported by this iPad error". Comp Worked very well up to the latest upgrade of iOS 7.1.2, now just gives "this accessory is not supported by this iPad error". Completely useless and a waste of money, much like the Camera Connection Kit I bought. Avoid this or avoid updating your iPad. Utterly pointless spending more money for official Apple stuff when it doesn't work.

The Apple VGA Adapter is designed to connect your iPad to a monitor, TV or projector using a VGA cab The Apple VGA Adapter is designed to connect your iPad to a monitor, TV or projector using a VGA cable. This is an older type of connection but still common on many projectors sold today. A VGA connection can only carry a video signal. Another limitation of VGA is its lack of support for HDCP - 'High Definition Copy Protection' - which prevents the playback of some movies (for example movies rented or purchased from the iTunes store) on an external display.

The Apple Digital AV Adapter allows you to connect you iPad to a monitor, TV, projector or home theatre system using an HDMI cable. HMDI carries both a video and audio signal, and supports HDCP, making it ideal for playback of rented or purchased movies from the iTunes store. This adapter also includes a 30-pin dock connector to which you can connect a USB charging cable, allowing you to charge your iPad at the same time as using the adapter.
