Use it properly and it's great!

    • Written by from Taunton

This is the perfect protector for my 4s. I was shown in store how to stretch it over the edges of the phone and I have no idea how anyone manages to scratch their phone with a plastic edged bumper! Just pop the bottom of the phone into the bumper and lift the top edge over your phone. Perfect fit. I've had mine about a year and it's still like new (as is my phone). I prefer it to a case which makes the phone too hot. I do have to remove it to plug the phone into my car music system, but it takes about 5 seconds so doesn't bother me. You can leave it on whilst charging.

    Serves its purpose

    • Written by from London

Snapped on well when I first bought it, and kept my phone free from mishaps (I tend to drop my phone a fair bit, so the case has definitely helped it bounce without too much shock). However, I wouldn't say it ages very well. I've had this for close to a year, the silicone is peeling on all sides and the case is starting to loosen. The plastic has also started to break especially wear the charger slot is. It did serve its purpose in keeping my phone damage free, but would I pay another £25 for a case that I know will "die" in less than a year? Absolutely not.

Becarful when you take it off and put it on.

    • Written by from Sunnyside

As a protective bumper it works when it's on your phone but you have to handle it with care when you're putting it on and taking it off. The case has 2 layers a hard plastic which sits in between 2 pieces of rubber.

The hard plastic that holds the volume up and down button as well a the power button isn't very durable so you can't bend the case to much when you're putting it on or the hard plastic will snap leaving just the 2 pieces of rubber to keep the bumper together.

The weakest point on the case is by the 30-Pin connector on the bottom of the case, the plastic there is thinner to allow for the 30-Pin connector to make contact with the iPhone which is where you'll notice the break.

Put the bumper on. All was good. Went to take the bumper off and it lifted out the iPhone screen. Will be going back to the apple store tomorrow. Not happy not recommending.

    In For The Long-haul!

    • Written by from Escondido

By far the best case for iPhone 4! Incomparable to any other when combined with: Front/Back screen protectors. I have had this one for over 3 years!! It's in it last lim. My phone has been dropped countless times, as others I'm sure. Where other cases have failed me, the bumpers pull through...

    Worth It!

    awesome case!

    • Written by from Etobicoke

I wasn't really at first that the bumper would protect my iphone, since I am a disaster and I always drop my iphone somehow... My bumper lasted me 2 years, and I must say that if it wasn't for that bumper I wouldn't have a phone right now. You always need to be careful where you put your iphone because it could get a scratch, but if you put it in a separate pocket, and far away from coins and keys, the iphone should be perfect.
The bumper absorbs pretty good the hits, my phone has fallen in all different ways and still it looks like new.
My reception has been the same always.
I have a cheap car charger that works great with the bumper on, and actually I have tried different chargers, and they all go great. Maybe there are exceptions, but I have seen any yet.
Also, I have tried several different headphones, and they have all plugged properly.
So, in my case there aren't any complains!
I which Apple would make it for the new iPhones too!

    Bumper - Black loose change

    • Written by from Stornoway

I've had mine for about a year and the rubber is now beginning to tear and get loose around parts of the frame. The sort of typical frequent use I put it through included slipping it in and out of my trouser pocket. It has saved my phone from damage after a few accidental drops, but one thing to be aware of is that it can pull out your money notes, coins or bank cards from your pocket at the same time without you noticing this. I've lost a few quid over the year I reckon!

Will turn your phone off, but easy fix

    • Written by from Dedham

Hey guys, I have the exact same situation as all of you. I loved the first two bumpers on my first 4s, but when I smashed the screen and destroyed the second bumper I cashed in on my AppleCare for a refurbed phone (or new-I'm not sure the battery life is no better) and got a new bumper. With this new design I can't even click the phone on and off - the button is always down. I looked into it more carefully and found a small plastic shim (the two functional, but tattered bumpers that I still have here have the same shim) over the power/sleep button inside of the bumper. I used a knife to peel the shim away and my bumper functions perfectly now. I know this will mark up the button, but so did the old bumpers. Poor QC and Apple should be ashamed for the outrageous price to build quality ratio. For the rest of you stuck with the new version of the bumper, give this a shot. It works.

The iPhone 4 bumper protects my phone really well!!!!!!!!! The only thing is I have the Blue one and the rubbers color starts to fade away after a few days to a more light color. But overall it is really awesome.

    Protection without the bulk

    • Written by from Atlanta

This case makes the phone easier to hold (harder to drop) and gives it decent shock protection. Doesn't protect the screen (obviously), but that's not what I was searching for. I don't like having a case on my phone but I'm the last person that should carry a naked iPhone. This case has saved my bottom a handful of times and I don't have to fuss with plastic screens that dull the sensitivity of the phone. Would highly recommend but not to those searching for maximum protection or screen protection.

The case feels good in the hand, protects the device greatly from broad impacts (ex. Floor drops, slamming onto surfaces) It shows of the beautiful design if the iPhone. I don't see what others are talking about when they give the case 1 star reviews. But what can I say, "haters 'gonna hate".

    Wears out

    • Written by from Ledyard

I like this case. It's slim, it protects the phone, is sticky, meaning doesn't slip out of your hand. But, it does wear out. The rubber disintegrates, and for $30, it should last longer. I'm going to buy one more, and hope it's improved over the first cases.

Plastic crack failure after a year

    • Written by from Keswick Ridge

I bought the bumper so it would not be so slippery in my old hands nor on smooth surfaces. It does that perfectly and looked good as well. However, it has now failed after a year with the plastic cracking by the switch cut-out above the volume buttons. I would replace it except that I feel it is overpriced. If it were $10, I could see replacing it every year. I have not experienced any other issues that people have posted. My iPhone is kept in a pocket not shared with anything else—not even a tissue.

    Clumsy Bumper

    • Written by from Vancouver

I bought the bumper because I thought it was essential.

The clerk at the Apple store didn't put it on perfectly, and perfect is what the iPhone is all about. There was a crimp in the upper right hand corner which I noticed the next day. No big deal, I straightened it out. Other that that, everything was fine.

But I started to notice a few problems.

    1. The inner edges of the bumper were dust collectors. You clean off the surface, and the dust and other fine particles get trapped under the edges of the bumper. The only way to resolve this is to remove the bumper, clean off the iPhone and the inner sides of the bumper, the put it back on. Dust begins to re-accumulate immediately.

    2. The sticky rubber edges of the bumper make it hard to slip into and out of your pocket. I found this to be a very inelegant feature.

    3. The swipe functions didn't work very well with the raised rubber borders.

    4. The 'rubber band' feel of the bumper made a lot of functions more difficult to use (I only realized this when I took the bumper off).

    5. Texting was so difficult that I had to buy a stencil. I no longer needed it when the bumper was removed.

I wouldn't recommend it, except for protection against dropping on hard surfaces. Steve Jobs had a vision for this thing, and I'm sure it didn't include a clumsy, sticky, dust-collecting rubber border. It's best left just the way it is.

Newest Bumper Case Is Too Small For 4S

    • Written by from Louisville

Same experience as everyone else. I wish I had read these reviews before I bought my newest Apple bumper case. The bumper case has always been overpriced but, at least in the past, the case worked well and the rubber edging kept the phone from sliding on shiny surfaces like glass, etc. Now the case's rubber edges are more like plastic so the case is more slippery on shiny surfaces. Also, and this is the worst "feature," the case is so tight at the top that it actuates the sleep/wake button whenever you touch any part of the top of the case. This case now appears to be so cheaply made that its actual value is probably less than $1 but it still costs $30. I think this is the first time I've ever felt cheated by purchasing an Apple product.

    Flawed

    • Written by from bristol

There is one plus to this case. It looks good. Although there is nothing to it at all (a cheap surround of plastic), you do get the sense that it was made by the people that made the phone. That's the pluses over and done with.

The bad points. It feels cheap and plasticy as that's what it is. There is simply nothing to this case that would demand any more than £5 but Apple have suggested it's something other than it is by trying to trouser an amazing £26 for it. I don't own the case any more as it broke at the bottom where you plug in the charger after around ten months. The plastic simply cracked from the repeated action of plugging and unplugging the charger. Probably the worst aspect of this case (other than falling apart and the jaw dropping price) is the fact that it damages your phone. I got a replacement iPhone 4s from Apple Uk after I broke the screen on mine. I bought the case at the same time and fitted it straight away. I've never taken the case off since I bought it but since it's fallen apart, i've noticed it's substantially scratched the metal surround of the phone. All in all a disaster..

    Iphone bumper

    • Written by from Killyleagh

This is what should be a great complimentary product for use with the iphone.
Unfortunately, as seems so of then the case with Apple, this item is disproportionately expensive for what it is, and the quality is far below what the cost would suggest.
On average for me, a bumper lasts just about a year with normal use. It doesn't allow use of non-Apple accessory cables (earphones or charger leads), and spoils the smart appearance of your device when the material begins to flake and crumble.

Apple do not make it easy to communicate with them, therefore it's hard to seek a resolution to the above problems. Poor product, poor customer relations.

    Doesn't Fit the Phone

    • Written by from Bronxville

I bought the bumper case for the iPhone 4 way back when those products were new. Case worked great. I reused the old case on the 4S I got a year ago. The rubber eventually started to separate from the plastic part of the case so I thought, hey time for another bumper case. I bought a new one from the Apple Store, it said it was compatible with the 4S. I put it on and, man, is the fit tight. It's so tight that it presses the volume and the sleep/wake buttons. This has been a big problem. I have the screen randomly turn off while I'm using the phone because of the pressure the case exerts on the sleep/wake button, I've had phone calls end for the same reason. For this much money and this little case, it should fit better. It should fit like it used to. QC is slipping, or most likely Apple's vendor's are trying to cheat a little material out of each product by making it smaller, tighter, trying to save a penny here or there. I say make the product like you used to and charge $29.02. I fixed my case by spending time to stretch out the plastic. It works okay now, still not as good as the old case. I'll probably buy a more substantial case from a different vendor in the future.
