    Apple New Wired Keyboard

    Hooked up the new keyboard today and its is a real site to behold. Very thin and lite weight. The new key design has a great feel and very large keys so you don't make many mistakes.

    THE ONE PROBLEM I HAVE WITH IT IS the two usb ports will not support an ipod. I have the video Ipod and I get a warning that the USB power is too low to power the attached device. I bought this key board to clear away clutter on my desk and hopefully eliminate a few cords. Unfortunately its not true and I was disappointed. I am very much an apple fan but the low USB ports were a not as advertised on the website.

    AMAZING...but....

    Well, on the OS X side this is the best keyboard I've ever had. Took a little while to get the feel of it, but now it's second-nature. Once problem...Boot Camp. This little baby uses Function keys for audio up and down and brightness, and Vista really didn't like it. Sadly, I'm going to have to keep using my old keyboard until they update BootCamp to work with this new keyboard. That's why I'm only giving three stars. Otherwise, it'd be a full FIVE, baby!

    Beautiful keyboard, not for everyone...

    I bought this the morning it came on the site - my older apple keyboard whilst responsive was too clunky and heavy. and sitting 8 hours a day at it, I started to get tired wrists from the height.

    Let's set aside the looks - they're fantastic. And the anodysed look closely matches my monitors and mac pro case - good job apple!
    The response takes a very slight getting used to, but once you have it's far easier to type from and completely comfortable during long sessions.

    This keyboard might still not be a replacement for everyone though:
    the additional shortkeys at the top may be great for the casual user, but if like me you're a pro apps user, beware that such keys as the volume controls have been stuck onto the F keys. F keys that you may use constantly in Final Cut Pro.
    You can turn the volume controls off when you use such apps, but personally I find it a little tricky to juggle between the two.

    Just a word of warning if you are a heavy apps user, otherwise a very solid product that combines great looks with impressive functionality.

    USB ports really aren't full function

    The above sentence is directly from Apple's advertising material for the new keyboard. Oh, how I wish it were true. I was facing the purchase of a USB hub because I was tired of turning my iMac, unplugging one item, plugging in another. I thought this keyboard would be a great solution. But even my Nano iPod kicks up a low power warning. The keyboard is great aside from the USB function. Great feel, easy access function keys, etc.

    Great look and feel, but...

    I like this new keyboard a lot, but was VERY disappointed to learn that ipods and the iphone will not operate through the keyboard's usb ports. The keyboard's description on the apple site reads:

    "And two USB 2.0 ports provide high-speed connectivity for your iPod, Mighty Mouse, digital camera, and other USB-based electronic devices."

    Too bad.

    Wireless Version necessary

    This is a great piece but would be even better if it were wireless. I would prefer having a full keyboard without the wires.

    Users of 10.5 beware

    I use OS 10.5 because it's very stable in my commercial environment. My keyboard 'i' key stopped working after wiping with a damp cloth (beware) so I bought a new one. Now the volume and media keys do not work, which I have found out is due to changes in the keyboard to work with recent OS's. Whilst the brightness keys can be remapped in System Prefs, the others cannot. Come on Apple: get a grip ...allow us to remap these functions!

    Almost The Best

    I have been using Apple keyboards for almost 20 years. This is the best, by far. Smooth, fluid and simple, effortless keystrokes at a twitch of the finger, BUT...the decision to make the "extended" keyboard, only in a wired option really stinks. I would really like to see a wireless extended keyboard.

    Why that layout

    Ok so it's a nice keyboard and it Works well BUT why do Apple think everyone uses an American keyboard layout! All they have done is change the hash key to a pound sign. What if I want a Hash???? Why not stick to the correct English British keyboard layout! I don't want the @ symbol there the " should be and I don't want the \ on the wrong side of the keyboard. They have put the touch typing marks on the J and F keys but an English touch typist will have problems because the other keys are in the wrong place.
    APPLE PLEASE GIVE ENGLISH PEOPLE AN ENGLISH KEYBOARD NOT AN AMERICAN ONE!!!!

    Where is the wireless version?

    I own and love this keyboard except for one small technicality. It only connects via USB thus cluttering my desk with an extra unnecessary wire and occupying one the four USB connections on my iMac. The wireless keyboard Apple offers is totally useless for anyone who needs a ten-key for work or personal reasons. Why doesn’t Apple offer a wireless version of this keyboard like they did in the past for former keyboard models? Puzzled Apple fan.

    Benign Neglect

    A keyboard with a numeric keypad seems like a core element of a power user's system. Apple seems to have relegated these users to the first-generation archaic users group by choosing not to release a wireless version of this keyboard. Maybe Apple's marginal profit position does not support the return on investment for bluetooth product development of this item.

    sleek design but sacrifices some ergonomics

    I love the way it looks and feels. key length is short making your typing noticeably quicker. I think my biggest complaint is that it is nice and sleek but it sits way to low. even lower than a standard laptop keyboard. It tends to hide under my 6"x11" wacom tablet which is already thin and low profile itself. I have to prop up the back of it on the base of my LCD. I think apple should package a simple base for it to sit about an inch higher in the back. Also I hate that apple moved around all the F-- keys. Should have left the musical controls where they were and same with dashboard.

    So close to the perfect keyboard

    I needed a keyboard for my MacBook and even though I really wanted a bluetooth keyboard, like the one that came with my iMac, I also really needed a numeric keypad do do my work. Apparently I can't have both. I feel like I had to settle when I bought this keyboard. I've never felt that way with any other apple product.

    Apple, what is stoping you from making a wireless keyboard WITH a numeric keypad?

    Also, the USB extension cable that is provided with this keyboard has a serious design flaw. The female end of the cable has a "nub" to help hold the male end of a USB device. Unfortunately this "nub" is a little too large and actually makes it difficult to insert a male USB connector, and even harder to remove it. In fact I actually broke a USB stick trying to pull it out! I had to wedge a paper clip into the female end of the extension cord to pry the broken USB stick out!

    The keyboard is nice (despite the antiquated cord) but that USB extension cable went straight into the garbage.

    I really love my keyboard but hate that it is wired. I need the numeric functions, does make make the full alpha numeric keyboard in a wireless version and if not WHY?

    Just purchased a trackpad as well and love that too...

    Good keyboard, however...

    I do like this keyboard with the one exception of its non-ergonomic style. I have used the ergonomic keyboards on PC's before changing over to Mac and they are much friendlier on the hands and wrists.

    What's up with F13-F19 keys?

    There appears to be no way to assign anything to these keys using Keyboard preferences. Apple support acknowledged that to be the case after spending about 45 minutes on the phone while they tried to figure it out. The keys do at least look impressive!

    Nice looking but...

    I've been using this keyboard for a couple of months now, both home and office.

    Pluses:
    - Looks great from all angles.
    - Does not have the dirt-catcher plastic tray surrounding the keys that its predecessor had.

    Minuses:
    - Keyboard feel is bad. You'd think that after two months of use I'd be accustomed to it but still frequently miss characters and especially spaces. Space bar seems to have been hit but no space results.
    - The little gap between the caps lock key and the letter A key has been removed. As a result I do tHIS about ten tIMES a day. I eventually removed the caps lock key entirely so I could position my hands without having to look at the keyboard which, unfortunately, makes the keyboard look considerably less elegant.

    I think that function followed form a little too much on this one.

    Great feel! .. But if you have a WHITE imac .. the USB 2.0 from the keyboard won't work .. It only works with the aluminum iMac .. BOOOOOO!!
