Short answer - yes. Microsoft has a Mac Native version of Office that comes in Home/Student and Professional flavors. I like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel 2011 on the Mac better than the current version of the same programs on PCs. Unless you need to interface with an Exchange Server and require the full functionality of Outlook, go with the home/student version that doesn't include Outlook.
Alternatives: Apple's iWork components are Office Compatible and they do a pretty good job for a smaller price tag. There's also Open Office which is a free, Open Source effort (like Firefox) that is also pretty good. However, neither option is a complete replacement for MS Office.- Answered by Christopher H from Virginia Beach

My PC (Compaq) gave out on me and I'm entertaining replacing it with either a Macbook Air 13 inch (128GB) or the Macbook Pro 13 inch (2.4 ghz). HELP!
I am a group fitness manager and the bulk of the memory of my itunes is exercise music. I checked my ipad and out of 32GB, I've already used 23GB of the total memory. (That is just a thousand songs roughly. Industry wise, that is a small library of music - and I intend to increase my music collection.) I also have exercise videos and choreography loaded in my current itunes library and ipad. So in terms of storage, the Air worries me as my budget will allow for the 128GB only.
Another important concern is that I shuttle between 3 different centers for work so yes, transporting my work laptop is an issue. My back has suffered because of the weight I need to carry around, so in terms of this dimension, the Air seems to be the runaway winner.
My monthly reports are in Excel (I've never had a Mac before, this will be my first) and I suppose in either models, I have to get software to make it compatible - did I understand it correctly?
I am not a gamer. I only dabble in Cafe World by Zynga (I know, "serious" gamers laugh at it and the ones who play it) so the issue of graphics quality is not all that important to me. (Which is why for the PRO, I don't need the AMD Radeon.) I'm not in advertising, so I don't think I'll be using Final Cut Pro or other apps of that nature.
I do use youtube and other video sites frequently, both for music videos and exercise applications. I browse sites like ACE and ACSM for information. I regularly do online transactions. As far as ordering exercise music, I'm planning to switch completely to downloading instead of (how I used to do it until last year) ordering CDs from the USA and having them shipped all the way to the Philippines. (The fees are killing me.)
I need help deciding which of the two models would be better, given my worklife and lifestyle. Price wise, they are roughly the same so I need to hear advice from people who actually use either of these models.
Thanks in advance for any help, I appreciate it!- Asked by Joey R from Quezon City

Best AnswerI would say the Macbook Air. From reading everything you wrote, I think the one thing you should be concerned about is storage. But remember, there's always external hard drives or other options if you need more space. 256GB is a lot more than it sounds. The RAM, processor and graphics would not be an issue for the way you're going to use your new laptop.
Macbook Air! I think it's the right choice.- Answered by Peter A from South Portland

Not with the HDMI port. The HDMI port on nearly all laptops is an output only and cannot accept input. You can connect a game console through a USB video capture device. Look for a "VHS to DVD kit", and make sure it is Mac compatible. Many of these devices are Windows/Linux only.

Best AnswerIf you've been using Office on Windows and those are the files you're concerned with, you can buy Office 2011 for Mac Home and Student for low $$ and you're home free. The files are completely interchangeable. Don't let anyone convince you that Apple's Pages, Keynote, and Numbers will open your old MS files correctly. Yes they will open, but the results always reflect some incompatibilities and you will be disappointed. You won't be disappointed with a Mac, I can assure you. At my office, we are all issued Dell Windows laptops because we're a Microsoft shop. I have stayed with my Macbook Pro, because of the increased productivity. You will be amazed. I have the Office for Mac version mentioned above, and for the MS Project and Visio files, I've used VMWare's Fusion 4 to run Windows 7. I don't think you'll need all that but I wanted you to know that you won't be boxing yourself into a corner if you switch to a Mac.

Best AnsweriWork is definitely cheaper, only 20 bucks each (you can choose which to buy separately on the Mac App Store) for Pages (Word) Keynote (Powerpoint) and Numbers (Excel). They can also save in the microsoft office formats, but you shouldn't rely on that too much, since there can be a few changes when you open them up on the pcs. Pages also has different types of, well, pages. Envelopes, resumes, brochures, etc. Overall, iWork is a lot more simpler.
However, if you are a die hard Microsoft fan, and you couldn't figure out a single button without Word, etc., or you would do a LOT of interchanging between mac and PC, go with Office. I do mostly printing, in which case any "changes" don't bother me.
The mac app store has a pdf to iWork converter, called PDF2Office SE for iWork, if you want.- Answered by Nikko S from Florence

Best AnswerAs of Boot Camp 4.0, Windows XP is no longer supported. All new Mac's ship with Mountain Lion and therefore have the latest version of Boot Camp installed.
You can still use third party software such as "Parallels Desktop" to create a virtual machine within OSX and then install Windows XP there, but if you wan't to install Windows through Boot Camp you will need to purchase Windows 7.- Answered by Michael B
