Product Information

  • Use the Apple Digital AV Adapter to mirror whatever’s on your iPad or iPhone 4S screen — apps, presentations, websites, and more — on your HDTV or HDMI-compatible display in up to 1080p HD (movies play at up to 720p). Watch slideshows and movies on the big screen in up to 720p by connecting your iPad, iPhone 4, or iPod touch (4th generation) to an HDTV or HDMI-compatible display. The Apple Digital AV Adapter routes digital audio to screens that support it. Connect the Apple Digital AV Adapter to your iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, or iPod touch (4th generation) via the 30-pin dock connector and to your HDMI-compatible display using an HDMI cable (sold separately). A second 30-pin connector built into the AV adapter lets you charge and sync your device while it’s connected to your HDMI-compatible display.

You will need an HDMI cable to act as your extension cable. Note the extra connection that will let you charge the iPad as you use it to play through your TV etc. Note also that when you connect to your iPad it locks to it, (to stop accidental disconnection) when you want to detach, use the little release button at the side not really visible.Works fine with Youtube, BBC player ITV player, iTunes movies and most useful in my case Netflix movies streamed from the internet. Used with new iPad no problems at all.

The connection behaves as if there is a short in the cable... very frustrating! Returned the first purchase, because I thought the product may have been returned damaged; however, second purchase behaved exactly the same. I believe Apple should consider a redesign; great idea, but simply does not work well.

But plugging this adaptor into an iPhone 4S running on iOS 6 then it works perfectly.

Actually this is for HDMI connection to a 30 pin iPad or iPhone, not as described as AV. When you look at the end view it is HDMI. Actually this is for HDMI connection to a 30 pin iPad or iPhone, not as described as AV. When you look at the end view it is HDMI. Now, since I upgraded to IOS8 on both my iPad and iPhone, my Apple 30-pin adapter fails to work when I hook up to either my iPad or iPhone to my Epson projector. I get a message that "this accessory is not supported". I never had this issue before using my iPad 3.

Prior to IOS8 this was not a problem. I am sorry like a lot of other Apple users that we upgraded to IOS8. There were lots of bugs and this one has not yet been addressed. I would gladly roll back to IOS7 if I could to solve this problem. I see teachers and other heavy users of the iPad for presentations using Keynote are really upset that they did not know about this before upgrading to the new IOS. I hope that an Apple rep sees this note as I have tried without fail to either launch a complain via the Apple site or even call. The phone prompts only want to guide me to one of the major product areas and not provide help with an accessory.

I bought this adapter in less than 24 hours ago and it works perfectly with iOS 7.0.4 that’s running on my iPad 2 currently. Just like its product description, it mirrors every single app on my iPad 2 onto the HDTV and when I say everything, I meant everything. I didn't encounter any issue while using this adapter as it was simple to use and it just works.

Personally, this was a great investment for me, considering the price that I got it for.
