    Better than Silicon

    • Written by from Berkeley

I've been using a silicon keyboard protector since I purchased my MacBook Pro almost exactly a year ago and found it sufficient at its job. But after discovering the Moshi ClearGuard I quickly (and thankfully) abandoned it. The ClearGuard is much lighter and easier to type with than the silicon protectors and inhibits your typing only minimally relative to a naked, unprotected keyboard.

The ClearGuard has texture which might prevent the easy slide of your fingers from one key to the next (familiar to those without a protector) if that is your typing style (not completely lifting your fingers from the keys), but is worth the money for protecting the underlying electronics from debris and the keys from acquiring the worn-out look of a well used keyboard.

Other reviewers have complained about the extra space above the function keys, and yes it is there, but this is nitpicking considering the ClearGuard is almost completely transparent. As in most products there is always room for improvement, but this is the best product for the purpose I've come across. Give it a try.

    Its Okay!!!

    • Written by from Greenwood

Feel its a bit pricey. I have tried to stretch it so it would cover keys at both ends....right now if it covers the keys at one end then the opposite side keys does not get adequate fit. This is a good cover if you have sweaty hands.

    using on silver keys...

    • Written by from CASTLETON

I don't understand the person from Texas who says it's no good on silver keys. I've used mine for quite a while now and it works beautifully. I would suggest disregarding that comment.

If your keys are not black do not buy this cover

    • Written by from Austin

This clearguard cover will not work on your mac if you have the Macbook Pro with silver keys, despite your computer only being about 1-1.5 years old Apple currently does not carry a cover that will work for your macbook pro. Sadly. We are left at risk of spills. Look for a 3rd party solution.

APPLE carry a clear cover for our macbooks (non uni-body) with the silver keys.

    Not Bad

    • Written by from Miami

The Keyboard Protector is not bad, the only thing it looks like it could come off easily. Typing is not bad and the back lit keys are seen easily.

    moves around

    • Written by from Queen Creek

This keyboard cover is very very thin, so you can't really tell it's even there. It feels awesome because it's so thing and it's easy to type. The only downside is it doesn't have a very hard grip on the keys, so the cover does move a lot for me. I ended up returning it and getting the zcover, which is obviously thicker than this one, but it sticks on to the keys just great. Hope this helps! :)

    Great Product

    • Written by from st. catharines

The protector is transparent. It's hardly visible and it fits the keyboard perfectly. One I should mention about is, it makes the typing a little bit noisy but it really does the job.

Great protection once used to it!

    • Written by from Virginia Beach

I have had this protector in place since I received my MacBook Unibody a month ago. It was awkward at first, and took a little getting used to, but now it seems as if it is an integral part of the computer. I tried typing with it off, and the keys are too smooth! I like the feel of this on the keyboard. It is much easier to clean the stickies off this than the actual keyboard after my 8 year old uses the computer without washing his hands. (I know: "MY child would never disrespect the computer like that! Harumph!!" I live in Reality World and my children are not perfect. Sorry!)

Summary: This works, and feels good. Seals off a point of vulnerability on your MacBook or MacBook Pro. Is worth the low price for the insurance it provides.

    Functional

    • Written by from Kent

I really liked the idea and I do use it when I am "being dirty" around my computer (e.g. eating). But when it comes to typing a document or email, I quickly take it off. It has a lot of traction so you have to completely pick up each finger and it slows down my typing considerably. It makes my fingers tired (which I never noticed before). I was going to use it with my students but I think this product makes typing more difficult.

My other huge problem is that if there is anything on the key protector it gets on the screen when you close it. Things tend to stick to the protector and don't wipe/blow off easily. Therefore my computer screen gets dirty. I try to remember to take it off before I close it and am really annoyed with myself when I forget. When it is sitting around it can collect dust and stuff easily.

Again, it is functional and when I need it I use it. But if I start typing an email, I quickly take it off. Other than those two complaints I like it. But they are big enough that I can't keep it on constantly like I was hoping. I took it off when I started typing this. :)

    Very useful

    • Written by from Keller

The cover is very thin as they describe. You can feel a difference in the texture when you type - the keys are hard plastic whereas the cover gives them more of a cushion - but overall it really doesn't change the feel of typing much at all. It fits the keyboard pretty much perfectly, although some of the key "holes" are a little off, so you just have to fold that part over to get the cover to fit smoothly on top. The only real issue would be if you absolutely love matte black color of the keys. The cover is slightly opaque so it turns the keys more grey, but the brighter you have to keyboard back light on, the less noticeable it is. Even without the light, it really doesn't make any difference unless, like I said, you are in love with the black.

    Expecting More But Worth Purchasing

    • Written by from Taunton

The keyboard protector is nice and thin compared to its counterparts and it does a good job at keeping debris out of my keyboard. The fit however isn't exactly as customized as I thought it would be. There is extra space around the F keys and the bottom edge should have been cut a tiny bit more so that it won't roll up if you slide your hands up to the keyboard wrong. Also the way it sits towards the edges isn't completely flush with the aluminum around the keys. So if you type too fast, you will sometimes get the feeling that you might pull up the protector as you type. The protector gets dirty pretty quickly, seems to be a magnet for bits of lint and dog hair, but interferes minimally with typing. All in all I'm glad I purchased it but was expecting a bit more.

    great!

    • Written by from Chula Vista

When I first got my 13" white unibody macbook, i immediately wanted a keyboard cover because, well, my keyboard is white! My friends had the silicon keyboard covers, so I went on ebay and bought one just like theirs. After a while of using it, I started to really hate it because dust and debris would stick onto it very easily because of the silicon material. I then read the description of the moshi keyboard cover and decided that it would be worth a shot to try.. I have to say it was the best decision I made because this keyboard cover is everything the description said it would be. Yes, it does make it a LITTLE more difficult to type, but not nearly quite as much as the silicon covers. Really, that's just what happens with a keyboard cover--you are not going to find one that's any thinner than this one. The material is great, so dust and debris do not stick to it very easily and it is very easy to wash. It's 1/5 the size of the silicon cover, and trust me, it makes a big difference. All my friends who have the other keyboard covers are very jealous that I have this one. With my white mac, you can't even tell there's a keyboard cover!

Very pleased and I would buy this as a present for my friends who are mac users! I've put it on the macbook pro, and since it has a tint of white to it, it makes the black keys look a little grey, but if you can get past that fact, then I really recommend this product. Especially for white mac users!

I can type perfectly with this on and it does it's job of protecting the computer from spills or other damage which is its purpose because water damage is not covered under warranty, so for a $2500.00 computer not a bad choice...

    iSkin is better

    • Written by from Towson

    PROS:
    Fits extremely well
    Same thinness as other brands

    CONS:
Gets extremely cloudy (with light use)
Makes typing more of an effort, just like other brands

iSkins don't fit quite as well, but they stay clearer than moshi. If you have a backlit keyboard, get a skin that has black keys with clear letters to let the backlighting through. If you don't have backlighting, get the iSkin that has black keys with white letters. Black keys look much better than the clear skins.

I loved this the first week, then the readability faded quickly. My keypad does not light up. Maybe it works great if your keypad lights up, but if not, look for a different answer. I am soooo disappointed - $29 for nothing!

    Not worth the money

    • Written by from bay city

I bought this to protect my computer against spills and dust etc.. The problem with it is that it makes typing so much more uncomfortable I dont know if it is worth it. It gets dirty easy and I have seen product since I bought this one for a fraction of the price. If I had to do this all over again I would not buy this and I would definetly not tell anyone to invest in this product.

    love this product!

    • Written by from East Berlin

i got my macbook a few months ago and was pretty finicky about making sure that it stayed pristine from the beginning.

this cover is the perfect fit for my 15" Pro and stays on perfectly. i have even washed it several times--with just warm water and gentle soap--and it look as good as new every time.

there are only two very picky negatives to this product: 1) the very top row, above the function keys, is about a millimeter bigger than the keys, however, this is not a problem, seeing as everything still fits and 2) any residue on the cover finds it way onto my screen, still i believe it is better than having the keys themselves touching the screen.

overall, i really appreciate keeping my keyboard very neat and clean!
