No Better Choice for a Macbook Pro User!

    • Written by from CUMMING

I bought these speakers from the Georgia Mall in Atlanta, Georgia. All I can say: I have never in my life heard speakers with so much power for their size. Only crisp, clear and pure sound starved listeners need apply. I am very picky, so you can take this review as trustworthy. If you blast them, they will come! These speakers are very easy to set up and fit for total listening comfort. They're the only speakers I've used which make outlandish promises and end up keeping those promises! BOSE is NOT just hoopla! If money is no object, make these speakers even better with an AudioQuest cable ($125) with gold inlaid plugs! These speakers are a perfect compliment to the Macbook Pro user in color and performance. I was using these old, worn out Altec Lansing speakers prior to buying these. I didn't even know what I was missing. Macbook Pro users who play games, listen to iTunes and those who wish to hear what you couldn't hear before - cymbals, drums, background sound FX and the like - will truly be satisfied beyond belief. After all, the internal Macbook Pro speakers aren't the kind you want to crank all the way, you know? There's no better quality than BOSE! I wish to celebrate BOSE's success as a company and as a customer satisfied beyond belief. Remember also that BOSE reinvests 100% of their profits into sound technologies, which I think is really cool! BOSE! Still kick'n it since the 70s! Way to go!

    Great Quality!!

"Unbelievable! I use mine for my computer audio and with my XM receiver. My unit is in my ham radio shack and in the past I always had trouble with my radios interfering with my audio on my computer. I always had to unplug my speakers on my system, not any longer!! I can run full power and the speakers are clear as can be. These speakers are shielded very well and it go's to show you, you pay for what you get. My last speakers weren't cheap,(Altec Lansing),but they were garbage. BOSE is the BEST. I will never use another brand other than Bose."

    Excellent 2.0 Option

Audio has been a passion of mine for most of my life. As I considered new speakers for my Mac, a company that really has a history of audio excellence was very important.
Even that being considered, serious listening and A/B comparisons are a must.
Well, these speakers are truly very well engineered and the sound quality is remarkable. In addition to a vast library of rock and classic rock styles of music, these speakers do an absolutely remarkable job with 24 track mix-downs of live music with Garage Band.
Hats off to Bose and Mac's Garage Band.

    Impressive!

I had been using the JBL Creature II speakers but decided that I wanted more space, so the subwoofer had to go. I read the reviews and decided to visit my local Apple store to take some speakers for a test drive. The only ones that I was able to really test (due to people monopolizing computers) were these little guys.

Admittedly I wasn't that impressed with their sound in the store (big noisy space). I figured I take them home anyway, since I could return them within 14 days if I didn't like them.

I don't think I'll be returning them (unless they blow up, but I don't think they will). They sound great! Plenty of volume, bass, mid, and treble. I listen to mainly rock and metal and these speakers sound crystal clear (I've been testing them with Metallica's "Black Album" and the deep bass in "Sad But True" rings clear and still hits you in the gut, without distorting or rattling). They are definitely comparable, if not better than, my old JBL Creature II's.

My wife and I were spoiled by a Bose WaveForm Radio and I am as stunned by the sound of the these speakers as I was the first time I heard the WaveForm.

The first album I played was Pavarotti Forever and the track was Nessun Dorma Turandot. Seriously, I feel that I have truely benefited and finally found a great addition to the home office. You will not be disappointed by these if you are after a grand reproduction of Opera or Orchestra. I have one recommendation, use your wife, husband, roommate, kids, or pets as indicators of volume. If nobody is left in the room then its too loud.

One reviewer was spot on about adjusting the equalizer every song but I have recently become a believer in normalization especially on whole albums. I would recommend the same, it has saved me a lot of EQ tweak time.

    Excellent value

I bought these speakers because I needed a quick in-between pair that I could move around with me during the summer while I was away from school. I originally expected that I'd replace them pretty quickly, but it's been over a year and I'm still blown away by them.

For $130, there are very few options that can compare to these.

The sound is very tight in the midranges and highs, with a nice warm sound overall. The bass is a little bit lacking, as there is no subwoofer, but can be improved by bringing them closer to a wall.

If you're looking for a simple, solid sounding computer speaker or ipod speaker, buy these.

    Complete Waste Of Money

    • Written by from Boulder Creek

Unless you are interested in adjusting the equalizer for every individual song in your iTunes library, I believe that these speakers are not for you. The lows are similar to having a static sub-woofer (that cannot be adjusted) that is set too low all of the time. The highs and mid-range are very good, but muddied by the low, lows. With no bass adjustment knob, the choice is to equalize every song if you want clarity and a balanced sound. With my 30,000 song library, this is simply not practical. My 15 year old (very small) Altec Lansing speakers (bought from Apple when I had a G3) w/ a sub-woofer sounds exceptional compared to these. Bose has once again marketed its way into homes without basis. I'll stick to listening to my IPod on my main audiophile system. Anyone want a free set of speakers?

Amazing speakers, but careful of the GSM buzz!

    • Written by from Anchorage

For the money these are great sounding speakers, great highs and amazing lows. And sideways they fit perfectly and look great under my 30'' Cinema display, matching the aesthetics spot on. My only complaint is that like most speakers, they do not appear to be shielded against GSM interference, so if you have an iPhone or other GSM phone and its with you most of the time within five feet or so of these things, the loud intermittent GSM buzzing might just drive you crazy!

I just recently bought these speakers because my 6 year old Altec Langsings died. These speakers provide unreal sound. I felt like I had a whole new iTunes library! Not to mention they are designed beautifully and look great. Highly recommended if you are looking for affordable speakers with great sound!

    GREAT CHOICE FOR $100

    • Written by

I recently bought the new MacBook Pro. I am in the Air Force and I travel a lot. I was looking for a speaker system with good tonal balance, no subwoofer (travel), and since I am a nerd they have to look good next to the MBP. These completely fit the bill!

The sound is great. They have a lot of low end punch for not having a dedicated subwoofer, but the bass is tight and precise. The mid sings and is also very clear. They do lack a bit in the high end for my taste, but for $100 and only two towers I can deal.

They sounds VERY clear at ALL volume levels. This is common in all Bose products. In most other cheaper products, at the max output the speakers are distorted and sound horrible.

OVERALL GREAT BUY FOR THE MONEY

I recently bought a iMac, but wasn't completely sold on the audio options that it came with. Now, ALL my expectations have been met. These speakers make the mac a fantastic system. The sound is magnificent! The highs, the lows, and lets not forget the bass! If you want your iMac to come alive, go and get these!!!

    Surprisingly good

    • Written by from Minnetonka

I wasn't expecting to keep these when I bought them, but they sell themselves once you run your own content through them. The bose displays only run unimpressive content through them so you will opt for the over priced companion 3's and 5's. The sound range is surprisingly good for the compact size; every time I listen to them I am surprised by the full rich bass they produce. They also look awesome on my desk with my macbook pro, they definitely match the mac aesthetic.

    WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

    • Written by from Fishkill

I have used various brands of computer speakers for over twenty years; and, believe me, my new Bose Companion 2 speakers are (by far) the best! I am not a audiophile, but I knew right away that I was not listening to a pair of $20 speakers! The sound quality is RICH and FULL ... no humming, buzzing or crackling!

I am very pleased with this purchase. Love them! Thank you Bose!

    suspect defect!?

    • Written by from Middleton

I am a life-long, true Bose fan, I can definitely hear the excellent sound capabilities of these speaks and fully agree as others have mentioned so positively in their reviews about the superior sound despite the high cost.

However, I suspect my set is defective and plan on returning soon for the following reasons; First and most importantly, the killer con for me, is that these speakers have an enormous amount of background hum, the kind of power-on sound that comes from the speakers ALL THE TIME, and before anyone tells me I am a moron like comments on previous reviewers describing this same problem that we dont know how to use such a fine product ... I am telling you I have checked every conceivable option and you cannot adjust it down or balance it out with the volume, equalizer, output levels, nothing. This loud power-humming is on ALL the time, basically whenever it is plugged in, even when the computer is shut down. I can hear it from about 100 ft away and down a level!!

Similar to other reviewers, I now know the importance of having an on-off knob on the speakers because if you had one and could turn off the speaker set and kill the hum, I could deal with that. But it doesnt, so I can't. If this is the way it is supposed to perform, in my opinion, it is completely impractical for everyday use ... mine is going back and most likely staying back!

Great sound in a small package!

    • Written by from Duluth

I bought these speakers when I purchased my new IMac computer. I have owned Bose speaker and sound equipment for my home theater system, but never for a computer. At first I was worried that I would not get the rich bass sounds without a separate woofer. I needn't have worried. These speakers deliver both rich lows and extremely clear high notes. In other words they sound great. What a bargain for the price. Definitely worth every penny of the asking price.
