It's not so bad ... yet!

    • Written by from Calgary

I bought my Macbook Air almost a week ago ... I love love love it. As I am here to rate the power cord, I will say that is is working fine, so far. I used it for the first time this morning and my computer charged with no issues at all. The magnetic part seems to stick pretty good ... at least for today it does. I have read a lot of these reviews and I am worried. I thought about buying another one, but don't think I will now. I'll make due with the one I have. The only thing I can think of is my Macbook Air is the new one that came out, meaning they made improvements to the processor (1.4 vs 1.6) ... maybe they also made enhancements to the power cord.

DO something about this Apple!!!!! This power cord constantly falls out!!!!

    • Written by from Boulder

I purchased this MacBook pro with retina display 2 days ago and have been frustrated at the power cord constantly falling out! I also had it plugged in all last night to find that my machine was only 80% charged this morning! Why are you suddenly creating such an inferior product? don't you test them any more before putting them on the market?- You are really upsetting your customers.

You should do put every available engineer on this problem until it is fixed; do a recall, and show that you deserve your customers' trust.

I am very very very disappointed.

Magnetic plug is a joke! It is TOTAL JUNK!

    • Written by from Alliance

The magnetic plug for the Macbook Air is the worst idea ever conceived. The plug falls out constantly - if you move slightly or move your laptop slightly. What a worthless piece of junk. Will never buy another laptop from Apple until they solve this problem. It's a shame because I LOVE my MacBook Air.

    Really poor product design

    • Written by from Montreal

Adapter failed for no clear reason and now no longer charges my laptop. I'm very careful with my equipment and have never had a problem with any other adapter. The replacement is also shockingly expensive for what it is. Totally unimpressed.

    Fell apart

    • Written by from Hilo

It fell apart! Frayed somehow? The plug is off the floor and drops down to my desk. I set it this way because the thing never stayed plugged in. Now I have to buy a new one with limited funds at that...shame on you Apple for creating great products with not great accessories to work with the products. We spend a good amount of money for quality and that is what we expect all the way down the line, from the laptop to the darn cords we plug into them for a decent charge.

Short Lifespan & Laughably Ridiculous Replacement Cost

    • Written by

I recently switched from Microsoft to Mac for usability reasons, as I am a programmer. I have owned my Macbook Air for 2.5 months now, and the charging cable suddenly stopped providing power. There is no apparent damage to the cable or connectors, it just stopped working. And so I went online to buy a replacement, thinking I must have received a lemon, only to find that it will cost $75 (and hundreds of other users have encountered the same problem). I couldn't help but laugh. I am so thoroughly disappointed in Apple's business policies and apparent lack of concern for its customers' poor experience using their product, that I am contemplating switching back to Microsoft. If nearly 200 people have taken the time to write reviews about this persistent problem, there are most likely thousands who are experiencing it as well, but are simply sucking it up and paying for another. If Apple does not respond to this problem and offer replacements, or lower the price (since each unit probably costs them $1.50 to manufacture), they will be losing me as a customer.

    Cheap/poorly made

    • Written by from Cranston

This thing stinks. It broke and stopped working as the bend in the cord seemed to wear it down. For the cost of Macs, you would think that the cord would really not be a problem. I had switched from other PCs to this first MAC and at least for the cords I am way under-impressed.

So far it's not too bad.

    • Written by from Powell

I've had my 2014 MBA for a little over 2 months, with the charger and so far it's not too bad (the charger anyway).

Granted, the wires and stuff aren't as durable as they should be, but so far it's been working well for me and I do my hardest to make sure my cables don't get tangled and stuff. I plan on getting some accessories that will protect it better of course, but I haven't had any trouble with it. Only thing that could be better about it is a stronger magnet connection or make it connect like how a PC charging cord would.

Bad magnetic connection and too wide- always disconnects!

    • Written by from Burnsville

This is the most annoying charger. I can't believe that a company, Apple, which prides themselves over such a simple, functional, high-quality level of design would release a charger like this! If your leg bumps it even a little (for example if your sitting on the couch with the computer in your lap) it disconnects because of its skinny, long and wide design. Apple- please give everyone who has a 45W MagSafe 2 power adapter a new one, similar to the old ones that are shaped less awkwardly!

    Works great

    • Written by from Winchester

Not sure what all the bad reviews are about, but I think this is the best charger on the market.

The magnet is very strong and I never have problems with it disconnecting easily. It has saved me a few times when the cord gets accidentally pulled and it disconnected instead of pulling my computer off the table onto the floor. The magnet makes it also super easy to plug in and its reversible so I don't even need to look when I plug it in.

Charges my computer fast and its got some nice features like the tabs for wrapping the cord, the removable wall plug adapter and a charging indicator light. It's also fairly small and compact.

I have had it for about a year and a half and there is minimal wear, and it works great. The cord wrapping design works OK in my opinion, and I can see how the cord could be damaged if its wrapped too tightly.

Having used PCs for most of my life I really think Mac users don't know how good they have it when it comes to the little things like the power adapter. Yes it costs a premium but its well worth it in my opinion.

Very poor design...another part of the deal w/ the devil

    • Written by from Claremont

Charger easily jostles loose and is very expensive. Previous models with side cord made a lot more sense. I am adding a comment to the list so hopefully Apple will design a new model that's better and charge us even more for it.

no replacement plug available for purchase

    • Written by from Miami

If you lose the 2 prong plug, which oddly disconnects from your charger in the first place, Apple does not sell the replacement part so you have to buy the whole new charger. You're better off buying an after market one for half the price online. Apple should take note of all these negative reviews and work on these chargers.

Detaches at the drop of a hat!

    • Written by from Dunedin

While the power cord does what it is designed to do i.e. fall out if one tugs on/trips over it so as not to damage the computer, the angle at which it sits means that every tiny movement causes the cord to pop out of its socket...utterly infuriating!!! It defeats the purpose of it being a LAP top as the connection is much too unstable to use on anything other than a flat surface. Loved the L-shape that hugged the computer and detached when necessary and wish Apple had not re-designed the power cord. I love my machine, but long for my old L-power cord.

    Bad Cord, broke within month

    • Written by from Palo Alto

Cord began separating from outer jacket within 1 month, leaving exposed metal wiring. I'm scared to get shocked by it. Apple products use to be reliably good quality. I hope this isn't the future.

My ancient white MacBook (2008) has traveled all over, been dragged around my house, airports, offices, hotels, etc. for years and I never had any problem with the MagSafe. I've has my MacBook Air for less than six months, have been babying it like a newborn, and it just stopped charging for no reason. After reading the reviews, I see I'm not the only one! They aren't exactly cheap to replace, either! Ugh.
