    Cord Frays

    • Written by from Centerville

The insulation and cables underneath will bend with typical use of connecting on/off your computer in about a year. Apple is much better than this.

    I concur!

    • Written by from Rancho Cordova

I shifted in my seat (no tension on the cord) and the connector fell out. Bad magnets? I also agree that the older "slim" style of connector plug was much less likely to get in the way of things.

    How about a RECALL!!!??
    Fix it up!

My power adapter lasted for less than a year and a half. I'm absurdly careful with my laptop and adapter. Seemingly out of nowhere the wiring starting to fall apart at the base - where it connects with the adapter. Now it won't work at all. Why does this cost $80 to replace? My old Macbook adapter, which is some six years old, still works! And I didn't take particular care of it. Apple should offer a free replacement of this 45 W adapter. The vast majority of reviews here are negative and many people, like me, did not misuse the product. Apple clearly designed a poor product and should fix it. I, for one, will not be shopping at Apple in the future.

    A step backwards

    • Written by from SAN JOSE

The previous connecter was sleek and didn't get in the way. Why would apple go back to the protruding style? The wire sticks out, looks messy, comes off at the slightest provocation. Please get the older style connector back.

    Terribly designed cord.

    • Written by from Joensuu

I've had my MacBook Air for 14 months now. I love my MacBook, it's so superior in design. Almost everything is VERY well designed, better than "industry standard" so far.

And then there's this terribly designed power adapter. The cord of this Power Adapter broke while using it correctly, wrapping it on the holders on the side. The cord was worn out. The cord didn't last it's intended usage for more than 14 months. This is unbelievable, when you realise this is an Apple product, where INTENDED usage should be very well designed.

Now my earlier apple-fanboyism has died. Completely. Now when I HAVE to buy new adapter with very same faulty design to keep on using my (otherwise very good) MacBook Air. I'm really, really not-looking-forward-to-this, because I know even my new cord WILL break, as the design is faulty. The cord will break every time, when there's the angle.

And what has industry done with cords that need to be need to be bend over an angle? Every other cord, every reasonable priced earphones, basically every other company has used a design that prevents cords from turning too much and wearing out. Not Apple, no. Every cord, even my 20 euros speakers have it, the thicker part in the cord that prevents the cord turning too much. My kitchen equipment power cords have it. No matter how UNINTENDED will you turn, the cord will last. But not this cord. This cord doesn't last it's INTENDED use, because the cord has to be turned to too sharp angle touching the shard edge of the cord itself!! Basicall the cord cuts itself and wears off. While breaking (and I guarantee you, it will break), this cord short circuiting may cause electrical problems to your MacBook Air and might indeed break your MacBook Air.

In summary: this is an overpriced, faulty product. However, if you need this Power Adapter, you are going to have to use it. I'd suggest buying 2-3 at once, as you will need more than one. Alternatively, you might want to add some twisting-turning-protection-stuff there on the problem area in the thinner cord (next to the adapter itself) to prevent the cord from breaking.

Zero stars would be more accurate.

I regret buying a Mac Book for the charger alone. It's truly one of the worst, most frustrating products I've ever encountered. It's incredibly flimsy and will break so, so easily. OH, and the icing on the cake is that it costs almost $100 for a new one! I kind of think that if I pay $100 for a product, it should probably last...maybe that's just me. Thanks for ripping me off, Apple! You are the worst.

Stopped working for no apparent reason.....

    • Written by from tucson

Bought my Macbook Air 11 inch in December 2012. Charger has worked perfectly until today, when it suddenly didn't work. It won't charge my husband's Macbook air either. The charger hasn't been moved around, and hasn't been transported. It just sits on my desk day after day. There is no reason why it should have stopped working. Now I have to pay $80 to get a new one. It is also annoying that it falls off the machine so easily. Just adjusting the position of the computer will cause it to disconnect. Disappointed with this Apple mistake. Please Apple, fix this charger.

    I like my Power adapter

    • Written by from Gaspereau

I sometimes wonder why people have such bad reviews on apple products. I have had the same power adapter for 3 years without any issues. I feel that sometimes people take the products through abused use and think that they should survive. Perhaps that's true if its just normal wear and tear. Could it be better? Sure...but as far as i am concerned, mine has worked well for many years. It finally gave through and it needed to be replaced. But nothing lasts forever!

I've had my MacBook for a little over a year now and for the last six months have had to constantly baby the adapter. I generally have to plug it in and out about six times and make sure it's in just the right position, wait, make sure it didn't come loose, then I can somewhat be confident that it will charge my laptop. The day finally came when the whole thing completely crapped out on me, so now I have to shell out $80 bucks to Apple for another one. Way to go Apple in making sure I keep buying your products! By the way, I do love Apple products, they are GREAT! I just don't want to be forced to buy them.

Should have adopted L-style cord from Magsafe 1!

    • Written by from Denver

The Magsafe 2 for MacBook Air should have adopted the convenient "L" style cord from the Magsafe 1. Having the cord stick out sideways from the laptop, rather than straight back like its predecessor, is a step backward. This is especially true given the smaller footprint of the Magsafe 2, which disconnects more easily than the Magsafe 1.

Two starts because it works, -3 because of the poor design.

    Works fine, no problem

    • Written by from Redwood City

I don't see how this product got so bad review, I guess only the people who had problems come here to vent, and the other 99% of us are happily using it fine without any problem.
Have been using it for over a year on both of my MacBook Air, they both working fine still.

This charger falls out of my Macbook Air CONSTANTLY... like if you sneeze or look at your computer the wrong way. Really disappointed, would have expected better engineering for an (expensive) Apple product.

When is an upgrade a downgrade? When you go from MagSafe to MagSafe2

    • Written by from San Mateo

Not much to add here, but I want to contribute yet another 1-star review. I've only had this cable for ONE DAY and I'm mad at it enough to find a place to rant. Why couldn't Apple keep the previous MagSafe design with a thinner connector profile?? That old one NEVER fell off unexpectedly. In those rare times I did forget to unplug my laptop, the cable disconnected perfectly, as expected. This new cable falls off EVERY TIME I try to move my laptop with the cable connected.

    Doesn't last long

    • Written by from Turkey Point

I'm quite careful with my laptop. Never had an issue like that with my Windows laptops or computers. My cord just decided to stop working entirely. So I went to a local store, plugged in their charger and it worked. So I paid $100 and got a new charger. It worked. I paid twice as much for this as I normally do a Windows laptop (~$1500) for this Macbook Air maxed out and within 2 years it already needs new parts. For the 15 years I've been using Dell, Toshiba, Gateway and many other brands with mixed reputations, I've never replaced a part. Now I buy a Macbook for twice the price and it needs a new charger in less than 2 years. You think you're paying extra for quality? Think again.

Terrible. Apple needs to fix this.

    • Written by from Raleigh

With a slight move of your laptop the power disconnects from the laptop. It may soon just disconnect by breathing on it. I cannot believe Apple allowed such terrible quality. Shame on you Apple. Do a recall.

Apple 45W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter for MacBook Air

THE WORST charger ever designed!!!! The first apple product I have truly hated ! No exaggeration...my MBA was sitting on the table and my daughter coughed from 10 ft away ...and YES ...the charger fell right off !!!! Possessed or bad design...? Apple, please show some integrity by apologizing and providing a solution. Please be honest about this design flaw. Your honesty will pay off in the long run. Return customers are worth gold. We are a dedicated Apple family...no less then 3 apple products per member. This charger changes my love for your laptops. I can't believe Apple made this charger...recall it and make thousands of MBA owners happy again...it will pay off in the end.
