I can't believe that this high end product exhibits such a stupid problem. I own an expensive MacBook Air that performs very well but am experiencing the same as everyone here - fraying cable on the adaptor.

This is a case where Apple should recall all power adaptors - take yours to the closest Apple store and receive a replacement that works (i.e. redesigned) free of charge.

I have now gone through two of these for my MacBook. They just wear out... No other explanation. This last one actually 'flamed out' causing a lot of smoke and nearly a fire.

Falls off all the time. Even a slight movement is enough to loose the connection.

Why can't apple design an adapter that does not break every year?

Last week my adapter for my Macbook Air broke. This is not the first adapter that have stopped working in my company. In fact we have 10 MacBooks and of those 10 MacBooks 8 adapters have failed within the first two years. All of them with the same reason. A break in the cable between the power adapter and the macbook.

While a thin cable may look fine it simply cannot handle real world usage. And if the adapter cable breaks after the first year Apple simply refuses to replace the adapter and expect customers to buy a "replacement part". This "replacement part" is actually nothing more than a new adapter and priced exactly the same.

One would expect that a billion dollar company would be capable to design a power adapter that actually works well. Instead Apple created a bad product and forces customers to pay large amounts of money (yes, 79 US$ is a lot for a charger) Unfortunately, even the highly skilled employees lack the skill to understand the real-life wear and tear of a cable connected to a power adapter.

Worst adapter design ever.

I bought Macbook air 11" and the charger broke after 8 month, I went to apple store to change it and the new one also broke after 5 month. Laptop is good and I liked it but the charger is JUNK!!!

I sold my Mid 2009 MacBook Pro and bought the 2012 MacBook Air. While I like the Air better the new adapter is useless. It disconnects and/or falls off all the time. I'm an Apple supporter through and through but this thing is a joke. I agree that Apple should recall this product and give us all the old style adapters that never fell off or disconnected unless I wanted it to. PLEASE APPLE, RECALL THIS PIECE OF JUNK ADAPTER!!!

MagSafe2 is ruining my otherwise perfect experience with my Macbook Pro Retina.
It falls out if you look at it, breathe on it, move it in any way, think about it, disrespect it, etc.

Really, this is most disgusting design and unintelligent, too. Now, I have to buy new one because the original is not working. I checked the wires inside the power adapter and one is pushed down or bent.
Apple, Samsung looks better and better.

The guy who invented MagSafe 2 must be sent by Microsoft or Samsung or other rivals that Apple is currently facing. Yes the size is smaller, by like 15%, but the usability is 100% worse than the previous generation. The magnet is strong, let me tell you; but the plug's angle is so badly design that even a slight up/down move/shake can separate this thing off from my laptop. That means it is almost impossible to charge the Air or any other products that use MagSafe 2 without putting them on a flat surface. Not even an improvement, not even a replacement, but definitely a draw back. A stupid marketing move by Apple just like the new iPhone 5 and iPad 4th gen plug. If Steve Jobs was still alive he would probably die again if he saw how Apple is screwing its reputation right now.
