dangerous (one star because I can't give a negative rating)

    • Written by from Hamilton

I have no complaints about the connector, it is what it is.

The insulation on the power cable is another story. I will shortly be going out to replace the second power adapter due to the rubber insulation completely disintegrating off of the power cable. This leaves the ground completely exposed.

This is three cables in around 12 months. First the insulation starts going yellow and then it starts disintegrating. I fully expect that the cable on the third adapter will start to fail in about 6 months.

At some point past the insulation falling off, the inner cables are going to short (if they're made of the same material) and this will be a fire hazard. I have so far not hit that point.

    Keeps falling out.

    • Written by from El Paso

My Mac is perfect. Works perfectly. It's fast and beautiful, but the new MagSafe 2 adapter it's a disappointment. I have 2 Macs, an old 2010 Air with the old adapter and it works perfect, it's very hard to unplug. The new design it's so delicate that you can't have it on your lap (as you should because it's called a laptop). Any movement you make, makes it fall out. BIG DESIGN FAILURE.

Alright, but not as good as the old one.

    • Written by from Camarillo

It definitely charges my MacBook Pro 13" with Retina very quickly, but it seems to fall out a lot more frequently than the previous generation Magsafe charger.

Perhaps they were REALLY trying to make sure if someone tripped over the cord that the new lighter MacBooks would not come flying off of the desk.

Hopefully in the future the L shaped Magsafe adapters will come back!

    Works great!

I don't know why people have bad reviews on these adapters. My brother has the air with the 45W adapter and it doesn't have any issues. I have a retina pro with the 65W adapter. Compared to PCs, these will actually prevent damage to your computer. If something snags on the cable, it could pull the machine with it, possibly causing you to lose important data if you have a traditional HDD. Or if something hits the adapter hard enough will the computer is charging, there goes your motherboard and about $200+ for a new one and labor. And it's easier to find a replacement because you either have MagSafe or MagSafe 2 types and three wattage ratings per type. My dad has two Dell Precisions, the M4500 and the M4700. They both have to use separate adapters. The only complaint I have about these chargers is the price and the little clamp that doesn't do a good job a holding the cable from unwinding in your case.

    Pretty Good So Far

    • Written by from Winnipeg

I haven't owned it for very long, but so far, it works great. I was moving some cords around and it "mag-safed" out of the computer which showed me the principle of the thing. It stays plugged in otherwise and it's not too hard to insert. I find it slightly expensive, but I think all chargers are.

Unable to connect sparingly after 6 months of use, fortunately I have Applecare that takes care of the warranty. Got a new replacement. Hopefully last longer than 6 months.

    Negative reviews

    • Written by from Coffeeville

The amount of negative reviews on this charger is the reason i decided to write a review. The only issue I have with my charger coming unplugged unintentionally is if I sit with my laptop in my lap and my thigh pushes up on the charger plug, it unhooks pretty easily. But that is a very minor con to a genius break a way design. I've been using this laptop and charger for about 3 months and do not see any issues with it. The only reason I was looking at the charger on here was to see what the little flip out things on it is for. Apparently they're for wrapping the cord around, but I wouldn't suggest using them as they seem they would put stress on the connections.

I've had no problems with any of my adapters

    • Written by from Mountain View

I see so many people complaining about the materials used and how quickly these things wear out. I would like to ask how you all treat your MagSafe2 power adapters? I've had mine for two years now with zero problems. I never wind my adapter around the flip-out plastic pieces on the adaptor, so I'm not putting undue stress on the cabling or connector. The only signs of wear I have with my adapters is the discoloring of the sheathing due to normal handling. I've also never had any problems with the connector coming lose from my notebook.

Safety vs. Expense? I'll take safety!

    • Written by from Deland

This connection has help me avoid what would have been a sure trip and fall (certainly the MacBook, and possibly me) on more than one occasion. With this design Apple addresses a major concern: Safety. About the the longevity issue, I haven't had the adapter long enough to rate its longevity, nor have I experience with former models with which to compare it. Under the circumstances, I think I'm okay paying for a new adapter when this one breaks. I'll re-review when that time comes.

I really like this charger. It's quick, the cord is really long and the ability to disconnect the AC cord is awesome when traveling. I've had no problems with the new connector falling off unintentionally.

    Works greate for me!

    • Written by from Albany

I've been using this with my MacBook Pro for about 6 months and it has performed perfectly. The magnet is strong enough to stay attached, weak enough to release without dragging my mac across the table the couple of times someone has tripped over it, and the cord boots seem to provide a lot better support than the adaptors for my previous MacBooks.

This is an amazing power adapter. It does exactly what it is supposed to and I have never had any issues with the cord falling out without there being a reason. In fact this cord has already saved my laptop!! I have two kids and two dogs and this cord gives me peace of mind when I charge my laptop. One of the kids accidently got caught in the cord when my laptop was on the kitchen counter and the plug just popped right out with ease. The other result would have been my laptop falling three and a half feet off my counter on to very hard tile floor which I am sure one of the following would have happened; a broken screen, cracked or damaged the case, knocked something loose on the inside, or just completely ruined my laptop. I am finally a new apple customer and am so happy I have finally changed b/c my last two non-apple laptops I had to replace where the power cord connected to the laptop b/c they were ruined from being anchored so tightly and deeply into the laptop giving no room for play. This is an expensive fix as well not just pocket change and sometimes it isn't worth fixing just purchasing a new laptop. My fathers laptop which is non-apple has the same issue right now and you have to get the cord just right to use the power cord and even then it cuts out constantly. My girlfriend had the same issue with her non-apple laptop and ended up going apple which is also why I am now a life long apple customer. In the event that i have to purchase a new charger due to wear and tear, so be it. I understand the real cost of not having the magsafe 2 charger and it amounts to way more than 80 dollars and potentially the cost of a new laptop. Take the bad reviews with a grain of salt and do your research and make up your own mind. Think how many apple laptops are out there and how few bad reviews there actually are when you look at the big picture. Plus factor in the people who just enjoy complaining, don't take care of there equipment, and realize how good of a charging system it actually is compared to the alternative.

I was surprised to see so many negative reviews! This power adapter is as good as it gets. It stays connected to the computer great (not a weak connection at all), and disconnects when tripped over or pulled on. It is even better than the original Magsafe. I really don't understand how anyone could have anything bad to say about it.
