    Great!

I don't really understand all the negative reviews for this product - they prevented me from buying the SuperDrive for quite a while. Finally, I purchased it to use with my MacBook Air, as it has no internal CD drive. It's worked great for me - and I've been using it almost non-stop since I bought it! I would definitely recommend this - it's working well and the burn speed is much faster than any other external CD drive I've ever used.

    Performs well and looks great.

Althought a little pricy, I did mind spending a little extra for the look and reliability. It fits my iMac perfectly and gets the job done. Great product!

    Apple Superdrive Tryout

    • Written by from Elizabeth City

I don't understand all the negative ratings of this product. I tried it out tonight with a movie DVD, and a CD from work. It's pretty simple for me, just look around your screen and find what you need. It plays well, ejects well, piece of cake. I'm not an IT guy, and I'm 61. I do have mine plugged into a new MacBook Air. If you have it plugged into some garbage MS machine, well that's maybe your problem. BTW, this Apple stuff just works. That's all I want.

    Awesome CD/CD Reader/Writer

    • Written by from North Richland Hills

I purchased this to use with my new Macbook Pro. I have hundreds of music CDs to upload into iTunes. It works flawlessly and I highly recommend it. Disregard the folks who don't know how to eject it...that's a user problem, not a hardware problem. I like the fact that there is no drawer to slide out and in for loading my CDs. I realize that hardware can sometimes have a bug; I'm sure the Apple store would fix the problem if the user were to return it. They've been most helpful to my friends, one of whom had an issue with her iPad. I could not believe how helpful and generous they were to her. I will update my review if anything changes; however, I have educated myself before using my hardware to ensure proper use of it.

I love the SuperDrive. It is worth every dime I spent on it. I love all my Apple products (2 iPads, 1 iPhone 5, 2 iPods, my MacPro 13.) High quality and outstanding performance. You won't go wrong with Apple. It may be expensive at the outset, but in the long run, it will last much longer than its competitors products.

    This is an awesome Drive!!

    • Written by from Dinuba

People are just not knowledgeable on what this drive can and cannot do!!! This drive works flawlessly and ejects perfectly each and every time bar none!! Most negative reviews exist because the owners don't understand or know their systems well enough to operate them.

    Flawless!

Bought this drive with my new Mac and have used it to put over 400 CD's into my iTunes library. I understand others have had trouble with this drive but my own experience has been great. Based on my heavy usage I'd rank this drive as superb. No regrets.

    Works PERFECT for me!

    • Written by from Bronx

I recently purchased a MacBook Air and I totally freaked out that there was no drive to import CDs (yes I still buy hard copies lol). I received the Apple USB SuperDrive and so far it is doing everything that is expected. I was able to install my wireless printer set-up disc, I watched a DVD and I imported a CD. So in the least words possible, I give it 5 stars!!!

    Nice Little Drive

    • Written by from Richmond

I got this for my 21.5 Inch iMac and I love it, it does everything I want it to do perfectly I haven't had any problems as is it takes about 2 minutes to upload a CD too iTunes and it takes about 2.5 to burn a CD from iTunes and it works nice and quickly for playbacks for like CD's and Movie's. It has a nice slim size and fits on my desk quite well so overall I am pretty happy with it.

Nice, Clean, simple to use optical drive. Worked flawlessly straight out of the box....If people read the product descriptions, then they would know what to and NOT what to expect from this unit.....Does its job well......

Exactly what I thought it would be!

    • Written by from Moorhead

Easy to install, easy to use, and it matches the look of my iMac 27 very well.

As far as I'm concerned, it performs exactly as I would expect it to.

My one complaint is that the cord is RIDICULOUSLY short... that's not much of a complaint, though. Ha!

I wouldn't hesitate for a moment buying another one of these devices. Carefully read the product description before you buy it, but then proceed with confidence!

Don't Be Dissuaded by Ill-Informed Reviewers

    • Written by from Mesa

This superdrive works so flawlessly, you don't even have to think about it. It is compatible--as advertised--with Mac systems lacking a built-in optical drive, so it may not work with your Mac that has a dead built-in drive, nor with your PC (Windows-type) computer, nor while plugged into the radio of a 1957 Chevy. It also may not give the best results when it's upside down under your blankets with a poodle sleeping on it. It may not act reliably when used with a hub or if you cover your discs with glitter and glue before inserting them. Potential purchasers, don't be dissuaded by reviewers who aren't using this device along with the proper hardware. I bought it; I plugged it in; I inserted a disc into it; I selected "burn." How hard is that, people, honestly? Ask someone to review your BRAIN before you berate a product that does exactly what it is designed to do.

    This drive works great!

    • Written by from College Station

I used to store my images on DVDs so that I could free-up space on my iMac hard drive. However, after one OS upgrade (to Leopard?), 12 of my DVDs started to get read errors. I tried using several iMacs and Windoze machines to copy the data from these disks but it appeared that the DVDs had died of cosmic ray bombardment or something.

I tried again today using my new Apple USB SuperDrive and iMac (running Yosemite) and I can now read all of these DVDs without errors.

Great drive perfect companion for any mac

    • Written by from Lincoln

I own a video production studio and I own 6 newer Mac computers three are new 27 inch iMacs they all use this superDrive, I have also used this same superDrive on older computers that I have since traded in, all of them have always worked flawlessly. Even a few times when I used a clients corrupted disk I have had no problem ejecting the disc like I used to have on the Macs that had an internal disk drive. As far as Blu-ray is concerned I use A Lacie works great but it's pricey. My opinion is that Blu-ray is going to go the same way as VHS tape. Yes it gives a beautiful picture but so do most of the Digital devices available today. Ask yourself do you really watch as many Blu-rays as you used to since there is so much stuff on line right now and it's only going to get a lot better. Follow apples lead. There's a reason they don't put internal drives in their new computers. One last thought never buy any drive that requires two USB cables to supply enough power, in my opinion they are junk.

When I got my MacBook Pro back in February, I was a little disappointed that I couldn't have a CD drive due to its thinness. But lo and behold, I found the SuperDrive, which has proven itself worthy in the short time I've had it. As a professional photographer, I've been forced to go burn my discs on a PC, which has been incredibly frustrating. But the SuperDrive has made it almost too easy! It is definitely worth the investment!

    Beautifully Designed Product

    • Written by from winnipeg

I took the product out of the box, admired the beautiful, simple, slim design. Plugged it into my Macbook Pro w/Retina Display. Inserted a blank cd and burnt a audio cd from iTunes. It worked simply, efficiently and ejected without the slightest bit of hassle. Apple never ceases to amaze.

Does the job my Mac Should Already Do!!

    • Written by from Houston

I purchased my fourth MacBook Pro today. It's been 4 years since I purchased my last MacBook Pro The USB SuperDrive is great, and it does it's job well....HOWEVER, why must I go out and spend another $80 to get my optical disk drive back after spending $2600 on a new Mac??? All my other Mac's came with a built-in SuperDrive. I know most software is available for download these days, but I can't burn CD's and DVD's without an optical drive (something I do several times a day as a musician and photographer), I can't format and perform clean install of a Mac without an optical drive to boot OS X from, I can't install Windows via BootCamp without an optical drive, and most importantly, without an optical drive I can't save a copy of my favorite artist's newest CD to my Mac for listening on the go or syncing with my iPhone or iPad! I came very close to buying a Certified Refurbished MacBook from Apple that was a couple years old, just so I could get the built-in optical drive, but for the money, it made more sense to buy a new one and pickup an external optical drive....unfortunately :(
