    $50, really??

Bought it sight unseen. I mean come on, its Apple and I expected it to be pretty darn nice. In all fairness, the iPad fits really well in it and I like that part, but the corners are sharp, the hinge doesn't look like it will last, the cover kinda covers down, but doesn't stay very well and it feels like a cheap piece of cardboard. Will return and get a plastic back from someone else and an Apple smart cover with the good hinge instead. Very disappointing to buy an Apple branded product like this. Never before have I been this let down by them. If it were $15 or $20 from a third party I could go with it, but not $50 from Apple themselves.

    Poor design...

The magnetic connection comes off too easily. Because of this...my iPad slipped from the cover and shattered on impact. Definitely not worth the money. Replacing it with something more secure once I get my iPad repaired!!

Protects but a joke as to standing up.

This cover, which I ordered 4 for myself and family protects the Ipad and all its corners well. However, standing the Ipad is another story. The back part should have two sections; at the most three. To divide in four sections, the Ipad is too top heavy and keeps falling back. If you let it continue to fall back you will end up breaking glass.

You could improve by sectioning in two the stand and also, include a place where stylus can be carried.

    Good concept, poorly executed.

I've always wanted Apple to release a full case but this was not what I had in mind. It's uncomfortable to hold and the edges feel a bit sharp in my hands. The cover is not the easiest to open either. I don't mind the material and I like the amount of protection that is offered. Overall this is not up to their usual quality. I hope this is a one off mistake and not the future of Apple innovation.

    Disappointed

I have always wanted a Smart Cover for my iPad and was so excited to get one. Got it home and discovered that it did not fit the new iPad securely at all, especially in the corners and on the "binding" side of the case. I love the color and was so disappointed that it did not fit well. I returned it and bought a different case.

    Great case.
However, sharp edges make it uncomfortable to use for very long.

Landscape position bad, more colors needed

Don't like viewing angle of the landscape position. Hard to view screen when angle is almost at 90 degrees instead of comfortable 45 degrees. Had cover for 2 woks and angle still has not broken in or changed. Also don't like color options. Why is black not available?

    Really Disappointed for the price

I bought this from Apple because I wanted something fitted by the people who made the device.

What I received was a big disappointment. The case edge rolls off the device where the cover folds back. It's a constant irritation to have to pop it back over the lip.

The other big issue is that the case was designed to fit previous model iPads, so it has the bigger hole for the 30-pin connector. Unfortunately, that hole is not aligned to the lightning connector properly, so when I plug the device in to charge it, the case slightly obstructs the connector, often causing the device not to charge.

For the price and being directly from Apple, I expected flawless. I didn't get that kind of product. Not by a long shot. Do not recommend.

iPad smart case not so smart

    • Written by from MURRYSVILLE

The typing angle is too low when you fold the cover back and when the cover is used as a stand, it's not very sturdy.. I wanted black, which is not offered in the full smart case, so I settled for dark gray, but it's not as dark as pictured. It's more of an industrial gray. The light gray looks like dirty white. Red isn't really true red, pink, blue and green remind me of an Easter basket. They couldn't have offered worse colors. I don't mind paying $50 for a case, but I shouldn't have to settle for unattractive colors and limited functionality. I liked the first generation iPad case much better.

    Big disappointment

Very expensive for the quality and fit of the cover. The IPad fits loosely in the case and the corners pop off periodically. It is too bad because the texture and grip on the outside is nice.

Looks nice, but is painful to use

I really like the fit and finish of this case. I want to love this case, but the sharp edges of it make it painful to hold for any length of time.

The problem is that the edges dig into the palms of your hands.

I'm going to have to return it and search for something that won't hurt to use.

This is very light and slim case which is good but when the front is flipped back it is always flops. I hope they put a magnet or something to keep it open.

    Smart case vs Smart Cover

    • Written by from Victoria

I have used both the Apple cover plus aftermarket back cover and the new smart case. I do prefer the former based solely on the ease of opening it. The smart case is much more difficult to open. It requires you to use a fingernail to pry it open. The older combination of cover and protective back cover was by comparison much easier. My wife has an aftermarket case but the magnetic switch to put the iPad to sleep doesn't always work. It too is much easier to open. Advice, try them in the store.

Not what I expected from Apple

I'm disappointed with this case. Yes it does fit properly with my 4th gen iPad and yes it does provide decent protection. However from a design point of view, this case is just not "Smart".
The edges are kind of sharp making it uncomfortable to hold. And the cover when flipped to the back will not magnetically stick, leaving it loose and unsecured. I expected more thought to go into designing this product. Not happy.

    Form Fit and Function

    • Written by from Lake Peekskill

    Form
This case is a nice looking iteration of the original iPad case but of course that is subjective. It has nice curves that compliment the iPad with cut outs for the speaker, mute switch, headphones and 30 pin connector. The accented volume button with plus and minus graphics is a nice touch as is the power button. The apple logo is also nice.

    Fit
Here is where the smart case fails miserably. The case does not fit snug, it some times pops out if held in a certain way and there are gaps big enough between the iPad and the case that you can see right through. I tried this case with both an iPad 2 and iPad 3rd generation which is bigger and to my surprise they both fit terribly. This is a big FAIL. FYI I've tried two different smart cases purchased months apart to see if I just got a bad case.

    Function
The smart case does it's job, it protects the front and back of the iPad, the stand seems to work well on flat even surfaces and it turns the iPad on and off as intended. The buttons as described early are a nice addition. The edges of the case are hard and seemingly sharp, it is very uncomfortable to hold and fails in this respect. Users have also complained of magnetic hold of the cover being week and therefore disengaging easily but have also complained about the cover being difficult to open because it sits flush with the case and requires finger nails to lift it open, I agree with the complaints. So for function it does what is intended but falls short, leaves much to be desired. So it kinda Fails in my book.

I hope this review is helpful to buyers.

The Smart Cover doesn't fit my iPad 2. It's lose like baggy pants and I fear my iPad isn't secure. Loved the Smart Cover but not happy with the case at all.not even sure the cover will close tight enough for the sleep mode to activate.

I dropped my ipad the other day while it was in this case, took it out and it was completely fine. Keeps the ipad up.

Cons:The suede on the inside gets picks up any stains, it's crazy. The flap doesn't pick stick to the back of the case, and the from of the case is ripping apart because.
    I DON'T RECOMMEND.
