Wish it had airplay audio out

    • Written by from Jacksonville

Great wifi router. Connections are very fast, stable and offer good range. I have had mine for over a year and I have only had to reboot it twice in that entire time after power interruptions.

For the features it offers I would give it full marks however I do think not including an audio out port to enable airplay streaming was a mistake on Apples part. I feel like despite owning the Airport Extreme and 2 Airport Express devices, I still need one more Airport Express to complete my set up.

    Unbelievable

    • Written by from Carencro

I am simply at a loss of words when it comes to this product. I was using a D-link router beforehand and thought things were fine. I kept having problems with it so I was on the hunt for a new wireless router. I had read reviews on this particular router and thought it was a little pricey. After I bought I came home and had it setup within less than 5 minutes, the setup is incredibly easy. And as far as signal goes it will reach every room in my house. Speed is amazing I am not exaggerating when I say it tripled my speed. All in all it's worth every cent.

It doubled my speed at home

    • Written by from Saskatoon

I have been having problems for over a year in terms of poor connection throughout my house. I got the Lynksys E4200 before and I still was having problems with range. In relation to speed I've always gotten about a 1/3 or a 1/4 of the promised speed....... so I have been paying for 100Mbps downloads but on wifi I've only been getting about 20-21 Mbps. The first speed test I did with the AirPort Extreme gave me 56.88Mbps on wifi and the furthest computer from the router wich didn't even get a signal before is now getting 39-44 Mbps speeds and I'm getting 14.4 Mbps on iPhone and about 17-20 Mbps speed on iPad at the furthest pont in my house. In short it more than doubled my speed and improved the range easily by 50% or more.

    Im impressed !

Great product and a smart purchase on our part ! Easy set up and configuration with our just retired dell . Purchased this AirPort Extreme to take advantage of our upgraded cable internet package and a purchase of an Apple tv2. Wow - great strength and connectivity . Stream hd movies in 10-15 seconds - makes iPod and iPhone all the more quicker . We since then purchased a macbook pro ( late 2011) and in the blink of an eye connected and the best and fastest connection i have ever used in the house . Good size bungalow and full power up and down and at all four corners and outside into the shed !

    Two thumbs up !

    Woa

We just got this product today, this is amazing-right out of the box- set up was a breeze, easy to hook up the wires (power). I know it's soon but, the pages load so fast and everything in my MacPro, and iPhone's ( mines and wife) are so fast now. I still have to hook up our external drive, but I guess we wont have a problem. Awesome product, I would recommend it without even blinking. Good day.

Hesitated, but I'm Glad I Made The Switch

    • Written by from Victorville

With a price tag of $179.99, I was hesitant to buy this router. I love having the best of things, but wasn't sure how the range of this router would compare to a high end Linksys router. My computer is on the top floor of my two story house in one corner and my Smart TV, PS3, and Apple TV are on the 1st floor in an opposite corner. With the Linksys Dual-Band N router I was receiving 70% signal on those devices. After I gave in and bought the Apple Airport Extreme, the connection went up to 75%. This was not a huge increase, but it showed me the Apple router has just as good a range, (if not better), than Linksys. I decided to keep the Apple router because it is easy to use, looks great, and I was able to get the Airpot Express to extend my range. Only with the Apple router can you use the Airport Express as an extender. After connecting the Express my signal on all my devices downstairs are at 100%.

    Worth the money!

    • Written by from Des Plaines

After using Linksys and Netgear routers for many years, our connection kept dropping. I read the reviews of the Airport Extreme and since we have two Macs, an iPad and an iPhone in addition to one PC that I use for my embroidery machine, I decided that Apple was the way to go. I've never regretted that decision. Since we bought the Extreme, we have not dropped our Internet connection once! It's a keeper!

    Wow experience !!!!

    • Written by from San Gabriel

Bought it after Thanksgiving 2011. Setup 2 macbook pro 13", 1 PC, two iPad2, 3 iPhones and one Nokia cell phone in 15 mins. Anyone should be able to put your own network without any issue. The range of this thing is amazing!! Also being able to support 50 users at the same time is bonus (although only 7 of us living together). We are buying another one for our small office of 11 staffs. Extra bonus on able to share one printer/hard drive. Thanks Apple for such wonderful product.

    Exceptional

    • Written by from Traverse city

Simply exceptional. Worth the price. Easy installation, 10 minutes. We pay for 100 meg high speed. My Sony laptop was only getting 60 meg. Once Airport was installed, 100 meg download everytime. Laptop is connected to ethernet. No crashing. Smooth video, fast, secure and tripled my distance. Most of my wifi devices, iphones, ipods, ipads, tvs and ps3 gets about 30-45 meg. Frankly, you get what you pay for generally. The buck is big but the bang is bigger! Must buy. Simply exceptional.

    Junk

    • Written by from Portland

For the price, I expected longevity. Not so with this product. After 1.5 years (not long for an Apple product), the product simply shut down and stopped working. When taken to Genius bar, the genius simply offered to sell me a new one. High price + lack of longevity = an insulting combination. I replaced it with a Belkin that does the same thing for a fraction of the price.

    WiFi Problems finally no-more!!!

    • Written by from Toronto

This is the first review I've written on this site, and I have to say that the greatness of this product made me do it.
I have always had wifi issues living in an apartment... dropped signal, loss of speed, unreliable network, and going through several routers by the big router companies did nothing to fix the issue.

Since getting this wonderful gadget, my mind has been put to ease as the signal is stronger than it ever has been, no drops ever, and no disconnects. Now that ethernet cable running through the house suddenly seems redundant!

Thank you Apple for an amazing router, which is made even better by sharing an external hard drive of photos through it! (NOTE: Must be in FAT32 or HFS+ file system.... NTFS is not supported)

    Great!

    • Written by from Kirkland

Like everyone ive been plauged with router problems from all the major companies. So instead of accepting the daily reset to get my old router to work i got this. It was pretty simple to setup and was up and running on all my devices in about 20 min. Ive had it for about 2 months and ive only had to reset t once, and i dont even think it was the actual problem. All my speeds have pretty much doubled. Yes i know my old router was 2 years old and this was a big upgrade but my download speeds are insane. I can now stream HD in Netflix where i couldnt before. I am an apple fanboy and love apple products but trust me if this didnt work i would have moved on. This is expensive but it is definately worth not having to reset it multiple times a day And with it being dual band it should last a long time. If you want a solid fast and reliable Router this is the way to go. Don't accept the horrible products other company's put out.

    Dead after 13 months

    • Written by from Waco

Hardware warranty 12 months. Completely dead after 13 months. Won't even turn on. I just have to buy a new router. Won't be throwing another $170 down the drain on this piece.

    Fast and easy

    • Written by from Tomball

Picked this up at Best Buy today. It took longer to get the old equipment out and this one hooked up than it did to configure. FAST, and easy to set up. What else do you need? Consider the time capsule if you want network storage. Same performance with added benefits of 2tb of storage. 4* because its just a router..not that exciting.

    Best Investment EVER

    • Written by from Baltimore

I have struggled with my Wifi for over a year, and have spent many afternoons waiting for Xfinity repairmen to come to my place to fix things. I used to have a ratty old net gear router. The price of the AirPort Extreme was steep, but it was either this or canceling Xfinity. I just plugged this in and everything is now magically fixed. My connection is lightning fast right now. Things are synching beautifully between my Mac and iPad. I wish I did this years ago.

Not Worth for money - doesn't support portable HDD

    • Written by from Charlotte

I am completely disappointed with with this device. It doesn't support my external portable harddrive. I scheduled an appointment after i tried all possible solutions given by apple. apple support team gave a suggestion to buy a new HDD with separate power input option.
