    Solved All My Problems

    • Written by from GLADSTONE

Had a netgear router that would only allow around 12 devices to connect at once, also fairly slow. Airport Extreme simplified everything and allows 50 devices, more than we will ever need. Finally we can use our internet to its full potential.

    Great Product!

    • Written by from Kingston

I purchased the Airport Extreme after experiencing poor home Wi-Fi coverage and once a day resets on an older router. This new router is transferring data many many times faster and I have full signal strength almost everywhere. I run 2 Macs 3 PCs and 4 Iphone4s along with an HP 6500 printer (note: Windoz 7 needs the 6600 driver). Couldn't be happier, worth the money. It works. Negative reporters need professional help to make it work.

I had big time issues using a cisco router & cisco access point, as soon as I bought airport extremes all issues are gone, easy to set up, pretty nice looking piece of equipment & pretty reliable, I would not think too much, if you are in the need of a router or access point I strongly recommend airport extreme

    Great Product

    • Written by from Fairfield

My old router was dropping signal about every third day, so I decided to upgrade. After a ton of research, I selected the AirPort Extreme Base Station. The setup was simple and took about 10 minutes in all. I am running 2 iMac's, a MacBook Pro, an iPad and 2 iPhones without issue. Great speed and extremely reliable. The coverage is great upstairs, downstairs, and in the backyard. Highly Recommend!!!

No Time Machine USB Disk; No AirPrint

    • Written by from Toronto

Like many of you I'm an Apple fanatic. Yet I'm seriously underwhelmed by the Airport Devices.

The Airport Extreme can't share it's drive as a Time Machine volume (See Apple's article PH4327), or better, the website Pondini .org which actually provides details.

You can connect a printer, but the Airport Extreme not going to add AirPrint (for iPads) to that printer. (Not that this would be hard for Apple)

I returned an Airport Express for this because the 2012 Express kneecapped ethernet at 100mbs/sec (vs GB). I'm reticent about getting a Time Capsule as that has many 2 star reviews mainly complaining that it has poor throughput as a router and the disks fail dismally after ~2 years.

Might as well get a 3rd party NAS for disk sharing. At least those are competitively overpriced. But that makes me wonder - why bother with the Extreme?

    Extreme

    • Written by from Hudson

The setup was a no brainer, it self integrated into the existing network and the performance is simply outstanding. Leaves the pervious versions well back. Transmit speeds were 114 now they are 300. Made a huge difference.

    Amazing Wireless Device

    • Written by from Elizabethtown

*I just bought the Extreme tonight and it's really worth the extra money! It was incredibly easy to set up. I have a 21.5" iMac, an older iMac, a MacBook, iPhone 4, two iPhone 3GS and an xBox to connect wired to connect to this router. Since some of the devices aren't mine, I don't want them connected to the same network as my iMac. It was incredibly easy to set up the main network as well as the Guest network.
*The best part is how much faster my internet is now. I never thought the router could make THAT big of a difference. But I was blasting through pages faster than connecting directly to the modem!
*One thing you might want to know is if you're used to seeing the multiple blinking or steady lights on the front of your previous router, there's only one light you have to watch for. I was sitting there wondering when the other lights would light up until I actually read the instruction booklet.

Bad Packets Unrecovered TCP Retransmits TCP Retransmits w ReadyNAS NV NV+

    • Written by from Traverse City

I have really liked the product overall since I got it 3 months ago. It was easy to setup and update.
But last month I got a newer ReadyNAS NV+ to go with my old ReadyNAS NV. I have been setting it up to do some more serious work and was checking the logs when I noticed hundreds of bad packets, TCP retransmits, and unrecovered TCP retransmits. Previously I had never had error problems, but cable will go bad as will switches.

I went ordered new Cat 6 cables and then Cat 6a cables to see if they made a difference. There seemed to be some improvement, but the errors kept coming.
I was able to connect each unit directly to my computer with no problems. Then I put each unit with a static IP connected to my Procurve 1400 switch hooked directly to my computer and got no errors. So the Airport Extreme is the bottleneck causing the errors in my network. I don't really know why yet. But this seems to be pretty shoddy for a newer router.

Wifi internet and networking at it's best!

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I purchased the Airport Extreme Base Station friday night after many months of problems with my old Linksys network router setup.

The base station is very nice looking and very easy to setup. I plugged in my Cable modem (WAN) and one ethernet cable to my desktop iMac. The setup for NAT, Wifi, Password, etc. were all very easy and straight forward. I was up and running in less than 10 minutes. Two wonderful things have happened because of this product:

    1) I discovered my cable internet speeds are in excess of 40+ Mbit/s down and 2 Mbit/s up. (With my old hardware it was 8 Mbit down/1 Mbit up).

    2) My wifi no longer drops it's connection to any of my wifi devices (Mac laptops, iPads, iPhones, etc).

I've been testing this product all weekend long by shutting down, putting devices to sleep/wake... streaming data/movies, etc. This product performs very nicely! No hiccups at all! Thank you Apple for another amazing device :) I highly recommend this product over any other wifi base station out there. Definitely worth the price.

Hesitated, but I'm Glad I Made The Switch

    • Written by from Victorville

With a price tag of $179.99, I was hesitant to buy this router. I love having the best of things, but wasn't sure how the range of this router would compare to a high end Linksys router. My computer is on the top floor of my two story house in one corner and my Smart TV, PS3, and Apple TV are on the 1st floor in an opposite corner. With the Linksys Dual-Band N router I was receiving 70% signal on those devices. After I gave in and bought the Apple Airport Extreme, the connection went up to 75%. This was not a huge increase, but it showed me the Apple router has just as good a range, (if not better), than Linksys. I decided to keep the Apple router because it is easy to use, looks great, and I was able to get the Airpot Express to extend my range. Only with the Apple router can you use the Airport Express as an extender. After connecting the Express my signal on all my devices downstairs are at 100%.

Not Worth for money - doesn't support portable HDD

    • Written by from Charlotte

I am completely disappointed with with this device. It doesn't support my external portable harddrive. I scheduled an appointment after i tried all possible solutions given by apple. apple support team gave a suggestion to buy a new HDD with separate power input option.

    Great Router, seemingly un-apple setup/configuration

    • Written by from Fargo

This router has been a solid performer with no problems (or restarts) for nearly a year. Sure, there are other routers with additional features or greater throughput, but for most people this does everything you need it to do and then some. Our household is primarily Apple computers, so it seemed like a good fit when updating from a terrible belkin router. Living near an apartment complex loaded with dozens of 2.4 routers, the 5Ghz band was the major selling point for me. I gave it 4 stars not because of it's functionality or reliability , but because the setup and configuration (via airport utility) are not on par with the user-centric approach Apple is known for. I had no problems setting up the router, but other vendors do offer easier setup and configuration, but there is definitely room for improvement...especially from Apple.

    Best Router

    • Written by from leonardtown

This is the best Router I have ever used, by far, weather the kids and I are gaming in separate rooms, while my wife surfs the net. Or Using it while no one is home there is no lag. It supports all little devices as well as the computer and multiple gaming consoles in the house with ease.

    Great Router

    • Written by from Toronto

My old linksys used to keep dropping the signal which was really annoying when listening to music. Had this one for a couple of weeks now and has not dropped it once!

This is an amazing product - well done again Apple!

Set-up was easy and it makes whole house a wi-fi hot spot

    • Written by from Farmington

I purchased the airpot extreme with my iMac in January of 201 and I never expected it to work so well! I purchased an earlier generation of the airport years ago and had all kinds of issues. This generation has worked even better than I could ever have expected on all floors of my house. My iMac, iPod and printer all work seamlessly. My friends and family use it when visiting and they love it too.. I even have my Ti-Vo and an at&t micro-cell for my cell phone hooked up to it too. Simple set-up, great security and works as advertised.

    Simple installation, excellent performance

    • Written by from MACOMB

The AirPort Extreme is the first router I've ever installed and it took all of eight minutes to do it (including security settings).

Right now it's a basic wireless set up (printer and hard drives yet to be connected), with everything working smoothly -- iMac in my downstairs study and Macbook Pro in my wife's upstairs office (opposite ends of the house, several walls), Macbook Pro and iPhone on the back porch and in the yard.

Working on my website, the iMac actually seems to up/download web files faster using the AirPort Extreme than it did connected directly to the cable modem. That's a plus I hadn't expected.

I'm very pleased with the AirPort Extreme's all around ease of use and performance, so yes, I'd definitely recommend it to a friend.

Don't waste time and money on other Routers!

    • Written by from Bellevue

I received my Airport Extreme today. It took me less than 15 minutes to get it all set up and everything up and running without issue. 1) Open box 2) disconnect junky Belkin 3) connect Apple product 4) Run Utility 5) admire a company that knows technology and how to please customers.

Make your life easy. Get this Router. Your time and money are worth more. Don't waste it on pretender companies making pretender products!

(P.S. - Apple knows how to play nice with other products, but not so much the other way around. Everything runs better on/with their products, even PC-based products)

Works great in my house. I have a old house with plaster walls and I've had no problems for the 1st month of ownership. Best wireless router I've ever used.. and very simple to set up.
