Terrible! 3 Chargers in 4 years...

    • Written by from Winston Salem

I have had to buy 3 charges in the past 4 years... All of them keep ripping on me and eventually just stop working. At $85 incl tax, per charger, that is a high and unreasonable cost to pay - especially as I'm having to buy a new one almost every year!!!!!! If the chargers would last, they would be great, but they don't - so big thumbs down.

Works great but cost is to high if you need to replace it.

I have had my 13inch MacBook Pro for about 2.5 years and I have never have had a problem with my charger. The light that indicates if it is charging turns off time to time but other than that it still works even when the light turns off. I do have a feeling I will have to buy a new one soon because of the charging indicator issue and it gets a lot hotter while charging than it used to. I hope apple drops the price before I do need to get a new charger.

If I could give this a zero-star review, I would.

I have had three or four power adapters stop working on me, even when I wrap them up to put them away. These are terribly designed, with no durability whatsoever. There is no reason these should cost upwards of 70 dollars.

    Awful design

    • Written by from johnson city

I'm sad to say that I now have to go out and buy a third MagSafe Power Adaptor because mine broke. The design is very poor.. you'd think Apple would be able to come up with something safer and sturdier by now. Not happy!

    6 Chargers in 5 years

    • Written by from Greenwood

We have had a MacBook Pro for over 5 years now. The first one bit the dust by our daughter, and we have had our 2nd for a while. Anyways, over the course of owning a MacBook Pro, we have had to replace the charger 6 times. That's absolutely ridiculous. I love my Mac, but they need to come up with a better charger!

    Very poor design!

    • Written by from Harleysville

Like many others, tomorrow will be the 3rd MagSafe unit in 2 years. Just shelled out $129 today at Apple Store for a new battery in my sons Macbook. After driving an hour to drop it off at his college, he called tonight to tell me that now the charger is shot. Fortunately he can borrow a friends to charge up the new battery but this is really a pathetic piece of hardware from Apple.

4 year old Lenovo laptop still runs fine on original battery and power supply....hmmmmm

Not Durable at All - Time to rethink the design.

    • Written by from Greer

I followed the care instructions the the letter... and yet my charger's wires became twisted and bent underneath the rubber coating. This will eventually lead to stressed and frayed connections... Not to mention this is my SECOND charger in 2 Year's time. This charger is not on par with the computer itself.

    Do not last!

    • Written by from Draper

The adapter I received with the purchase of my computer lasted less than two years. I thought I must have done something wrong because it became very fragile after about 8 months. I forked over the $80 to buy anew one and took extra care. Well, 6 months later and the new one broke. Ridiculous. Now I have this computer I paid a ton of money for and have to continually buy new $80 chargers for. Remind me again how macs are better than PCs?

How are these even legal to sell?

    • Written by from Whitley Bay

I've just replaced my 3rd Magsafe which, like other people have mentioned, melted the cord connected to the adapter from which huge sparks emitted burning and melting the cord further. This was first thing in the morning after it was plugged in all evening with the problem. All things considered, we're very lucky it didn't happen in the night otherwise the situation could have been much, much worse. I won't be doing that again. The design is majorly faulty and given the number of complaints (and images of melted adapters and computers online), I don't understand how these are even legally sold.

six of these chargers and not a single good one

    • Written by from Indio

Between my boyfriend and I we have gone through SIX of these chargers in the couple of years we have had our MacBooks. My first one melted apart, my second one stopped working unexpectedly, and my third one is melting apart too. His first one was chewed by a cat (clearly not Apple's fault), his second one literally caught on fire during usage, and his third one gets so hot that it burns your hand to touch and it won't charger the computer. We have different era MacBooks, but we both have had so many many problems with these charges. It bothers me to no end that we will have to shell out another $80 after spend thousands on the laptops and hundreds on replacement chargers. NOT HAPPY!!!

    Piece of low quality junk

    • Written by from Bexhill on Sea

Another power adaptor failed. I have to replace these pretty much each year. Doesn't matter how carefully you treat these things, they are fundamentally flawed. I have 14 significant individual Apple products ( iPods, iPads, MacBooks, Mac TV, Mac mini ....) and these adaptors are singly the only thing with which I have an ongoing problem. Evidently a design problem, which perhaps the wonder-designers can't work out... Poor after sales service too. Apple becoming just another electrical consumable producer.

I'm on my third charger in past two years. This will be the LAST time I buy a charger if I buy one before I consider going back to PC. The little white box on the charger got really hot this previous time and later that day I realized that it had melted the rubber on the little cord so now the wires are exposed. I got some tape to tape it up and I'm going to try and ride this one out. Shame on you Apple.

    Faulty charger

    • Written by from Sugar Land

I absolutely love my MacBook pro! This computer is the reason that I got into Web and Graphic design, but these chargers are something else. I have had my computer for 2 years and I have gone through 3 chargers. I will admit, coming from a PC, I roughed up the first one, but I absolutely babied the other 2 and they still broke on me. I found a place that will replace my charger a little better than AppleCare would though. It's kinda like charger insurance. It's my fix until Apple comes up with a better solution. It's called mac charger replacement on FaceBook. Hope this helps guys :)

    Fire Hazard. Burnt cable.

    • Written by from Pasadena

The part where the thin cable meets the adaptor starting heating up, turning yellow-ish, then split, frayed, and how it's dangling hopelessly. This is obviously an engineering defect, but I guess Apple doesn't care. Disappointing. I'm going to go get some ice cream and be happy again.

    Fed up.

    • Written by from Thornhill

As much as I love my macbook I have gone through 6 chargers in the past 4 years. One of the chargers was returned within 4 months and within those months I didn't use it all. My first charger was torn up after about a year but every charger after that just stopped working. The only way to get it to work is to move the cord around until the green light turns on. This seems to be an ongoing thing. Apple should really fix this issue

    Faulty Charger

    • Written by from Morgan hill

I have had my macbook pro for about three years, and have replaced its charger twice. I have read many other reviews that have had this same problem. The first one lasted about two years, but the second one only lasted one. It isn't cheap to replace these, and I hope apple has been working to improve their quality.

    They don't last!

    • Written by from Santa Fe

I've had my MacBook Pro for a tiny bit over a year.

I had to replace the charger TWICE! I didn't even do anything to the charger... it just randomly tears... AND $80 TO REPLACE!?!?! THATS ABSOLUTELY CRAZY! I also don't have a apple store near me so if it tears I have to travel 1.5 hours because I rely on my computer.
