    Great product

Set-up was a breeze. It took about 5 mins. This was a fresh change from the old Dome looking Airport I had from years. I still have it, but the reason for the change was b/c the product kept losing conection to the web. Plus it has out lived its time. The size of the new base station has a very small foot print. Amazing how small this item is. Can't wait to try airplay speakers with it.

Great product, but it did not do what i needed it to do

    • Written by from Bonaire

let me say over all this product is great and easy to setup it follows the old version of this product. also my setup for the house is an old netgear wireless router in the back room then attached is the netgear power over ethernet plugs to extend the wired LAN, then across the house is the older gen router attached to the living room ethernet plug, and also one in my bed with older gen attached to the netgear power ethernet plug. each of the older gen are set up as create a network to extend the netgear wireless router which works perfect, (also using the AirPlay to the stereos in each room). the product worked great in setting up the create a network mode but would not allow the guest network to be used since i was only using the connection as a DHCP connection. after doing some research i found out that the connection had to be connected using DCHP and NAT for the guest network to work. but in my case that particular mode was conflicting with the wireless negtear router already using the DCHP and NAT connection, which overall was connflicting with the new apple express base station.

so overall i would suggest that the router be used as the main router to get the guest network to work and use the LAN port, to attach a good switch to add extra LAN connections, unless all of your devices are using a WLAN connection. this product world be best in a small house, dorm, appartment.

Great update to a great product

THis product simply works great! I plugged it in to my ethernet network (which already has an airport extreme) and the new airport utility new exactly what I was intending to do. Extend my wireless network via ethernet. A few more clicks and the new airport express was setup and running great. Tried airplay streaming and it seems to work much better.

Less range then 8 y.o. 1st gen Express

    • Written by from Brooklyn

This new Airport Express is cute and all, but it has less range then our 8 year old 1st generation Airport Express. We use these in the apartment for "wireless" speakers and to extend the range of our Airport Extreme. We thought that this new one would help with intermittent connectivity in one of the further away rooms that the old Express lived in, but boy were we sorely wrong. This new one's reach wasnt even close to what the old one had. We also have a 2009 Mac Mini in this room and that too has a much farther range then this thing. We now have it living in a room that's closer to the Extreme. So far so good, but it's only been 10 minutes, so anything can happen. Your milage may very. FYI: The room that it didnt work in is about 12 feet away, but is separated by 3 walls (with 2 doorways).

    small and powerful, but...

Great little unit. Set up was simple using my PPPoE connection. Usb printer works good, but ONLY with computers, NOT with iPad and iPhone. Why was this function omitted ?

    Works but tempermental during setup

    • Written by from West Dundee

If you do not think, plug the unit in, install the app, auto config, it works great. If you think about it, look at any settings other than what it wants to use you get no where fast.
    Saying that...
I have gone through to many Linksys products, more than I can count. They work well at the beginning, about a year and then you get to reset the units daily. So far I have not had any issues with the AE and would recommend this to anyone who does not want to think.
I have used this unit in Japan as well, worked great on most networks... if you auto configure.
If it last 2 years I would buy again... stay tuned.

I was getting horrible internet in my apartment complex and decided to give this a try. Got this all set up and BAM! I've never been happier. Set up was a little tricky, but all that took was a call to customer service and they helped me. I would definitely recommend this!

    • Written by from Chula Vista

its faster than muy wireless modem.. its recognized and setup buy my iphone.. works amazing in distance , and just super happy with the Air play... i would not recomend getting the Extreme vertion for USB harddrive back ups or use in general.. USB Ethernet- Wireless drives are really really slow.. just go for a Ethernet or USB 3

If you had the last one, don't upgrade

    • Written by from langley

This unit forces you to always have the 2.4 GHz radio on, even if you want to disable it. For me, I don't like it because I have too many 2.4 GHz devices causing interference. It still only has a 10/100 Mbps connection at the back, so your wireless N, whether you use the 5 GHz band or not, will always be choked back to 100 Mbps, which fine for most HD video, but can be a problem in some cases. The only improvement is that the entire unit doesn't need to be plugged into the wall, but that's not worth the upgrade, there are better non apple products out there.

Easiest router I've ever set up!

    • Written by from Hillsboro

Sure you could probably save twenty bucks on some d link router. However, this router was so simple to setup its totally worth it! It took like three steps. Plug in, imac detect it, then name router, DONE! Also and this may just be my expierence but I noticed my wifi was significantly faster.

Extened my network range easily with a few taps from my iPhone. Don't know why I didn't do this sooner.

I bought this some months ago and I have to say that its the best router that I've had. I would never switch to another router. My Wi-Fi speed is absolutely powerful. I would totally recommend this product, trust me its worth the $200.

    Great Addition

We use several Apple devices in my household. I have an Airport Extreme set up in my office, that alone was great. I will lose 1 bar on the other end of my house, I just installed my new Airport Express in the center of my home ( 2 step process with airport utility) now I have full bars in my entire house. You just cant beat that....
It has been a great addition to our apple family.

    very weak wifi signal

    • Written by from Auckland

I purchased an airport express on the advice of an apple sales person that it would provide a perfectly good wireless signal over a distance of 30m.
Once I purchased the product and set it up in our home office I found that that was not the case and I could not get a reliable signal in the house (approx 20m away from the home office).
I was then advised to purchase a second airport express to use as an expander in the house. However, it still takes about 5 times as long to load a website in the house as it does in the office, and the express in the house keeps dropping the connection with the express in the office.
I have purchased a new imac and two airport expresses only to find that I have to use my 6 year old wireless G router in order to get reliable internet access to the computer in the house.
When I called applecare support I was advised that the earlier advice given by the apple salesperson was wrong and that an airport express really only gives a strong signal over a distance of about 10m.
As a result, he suggested I buy a third airport express and set it up in between the two I’ve already bought, however, that is impossible as there is only lawn between them.
I feel like I’ve been sold a lemon by apple. Very disillusioned with this product. Complete waste of money.
