    A night at the opra!

    • Written by from Ottawa

Where do I start, Logic is pure logic. What I mean is that the new new logic studio was incredibly well engineered, much less bugy than the previous version. Compatibility has been greatly increased and again, this new version manages better the resources of my system, meaning that it runs much faster. I really like the new features added in main stage, especially the multimapping of controls. What is most impressive is the price for which apple sells the product. Compared to other audio editing software, this one dominates the competition. Thanks apple.

    Oh Yeah!!!!!!!

    • Written by from Clearwater

I have been recording for about 15+ years and was patiently awaiting for this version of Logic to arrive. I know apple has been scrambling to get closer to what digidesign's Pro-Tools can do and all I have to say is WOW!!! The upgrade install time was way fast; unlike waiting 4 hours for Logic Studio 8 to install. They've included everything you need to get a professional sounding song right out of the box and killed a lot of plug-in competitors along the way. The amp designer rivals that of Ik Multimedia's Amplitube series. The flex tool....WOW!!! No more scissor tool for this guy. Drum replacer....SICK!!! You don't even need third party plug-ins i.e. Drumtracker from Toontrack to get midi conversion of audio files. This is by far a warm welcome for me and did I mention you can easily... and I do mean easily import your channel strip settings from other projects? Don't hesitate and wait to get this if you are serious about recording. This is the hottest thing out right now and I can't imagine anything being better than this with out waiting another year or two. Pro-Tools 8 just plain stinks against Logic 9. Midi recording is superior in Logic and the sound libraries are HUGE!!! I will never step back to the dark side of Pro-Tools again. Way to go LOGIC 9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Pro tools R I P

    • Written by from london

This is a massive leap forward for Logic. Yes the amp modelling is spectacular, yes the new editing facilities are great but what really makes the difference for me is the soundstage and stereo representation. The reverbs now really do their job, in fact all of the logic plug ins sound great on my rig and the potential of Logic 9 is scary once the full 64 bit OS comes into play.
I stood by Logic when everyone else was buying into Pro tools.
I feel like i just won the lottery.

Logic Pro 9 vs. Logic Pro 8

    • Written by from Bonita Springs

Logic Pro 8 is an amazing recording program with so much to offer, but when I started using Logic Pro 9 there was no comparison. Yes, visually there is a similar comparison, but the interface has a slightly different look; a better, more easy-to-follow, look. There are tons of new sounds that have a much better quality to them, and the new effects plug-ins make the sounds very easy to manipulate. First, Logic pro 8 allows for easy manipulation, but the process can get very confusing, but Logic Pro 9 has a more simplistic process of choosing pre-made templates that appear in the inspector/ browser window. Secondly, the ease of navigation is much smoother because Logic Pro 9 is simply a program of innovation. If you can work with Logic Pro 8 to compose your music, then using Logic Pro 9 will allow you to get even more creative in a more timely fashion. I am sure there is a heck of a lot more to learn, but from my person experience I can tell you that Logic Pro 9 blows Logic Pro 8 out of the water by a ton of new features that I haven't even tapped in to yet. The great thing about LP 9 is that once you install it you can instantly start making your music. Why? Because it is so much more simplistic. Apple really did an awesome job! I've had an Open Labs Neko Tim 4 SE using Cubase and Pro Tools and I switched back to Logic Pro 8 because I found the sequencers and DAW software to lack in many areas, so I sold the workstation. Now, I just purchased LP 9 and I can't even tell you how much more satisfied I am. Logic Pro 9 is everything you need in a studio, plus that much more. I am HIGHLY RECOMMENDING Logic Pro 9 to all music producers, over Pro Tools, Cubase, Fruity Loops, etc., and I will tell you that you will not regret the transition at all. Anyway, hopefully this will help you make a decision is your researching process.

Logic 9.........and all the other DAWs.

    • Written by from GREENFORD

I was a Pro Tools TDM user (and obviously a Logic hater) for 15 years until I've been forced to mix on Logic 8. Pretty soon the more I went into Logic, the less I wanted to touch PT. I always have to work to a deadline and the only thing that matters after the sound is usefulness. Logic 9 just beats every single DAW on the market, its performance is perfect, and hey its price is like ONE PT plug-in's. Everything is in a box, no compatibility issues, it works flawlessly and so on. It really gives the freedom to anyone to get the most out of his/her creativity. Thanks, well done!

    Everything I Need...And a LOT More

    • Written by from Seattle

I have been a performing musician for 30 years and owned a small demo studio in LA back in the 80's. In those days we had physical racks of MIDI-controlled synths, plugs, and mixers. I sunk $30K into my old studio and was able to get decent sounding demos cut using tape.

In the early 90's I got out of the recording business and only in 2007 did I decide to give it another try. I bought a 15" MacBook Pro laptop and started playing around with GarageBand 3 to "get my feet wet". I loved the ease of making music in GarageBand but found it to be somewhat limited. A friend of mine was using Logic Pro 7 and while I was amazed by the power of LP7, I found the GUI daunting.

I thought that if Logic was redesigned to have a GarageBand-like front end, I would take the plunge. I procrastinated long enough that Apple rolled out my "dream DAW" in LP8. Logic now had a GarageBand-like user friendly GUI, a price cut from $999 to $499, AND included all the Jam Packs. At this point it was a no-brainer.

Now after over 2 years of using Logic, I can say without hesitation that I have never used such diverse, high quality, and stable software in my life. My "day job" is SW engineering so I am well aware of how much goes into a complex program like Logic. The fact that it all plays together so well in such a user friendly way is a testament to the Apple/Emagic design team.

LP affords me to record crystal clear vocals and guitars (getting good Mic/PreAmp is essential) to an infinite number of drum tracks (either loops, UltraBeat creations, or pounding the rhythms in using a drum pad MIDI controller). Logic also has a HUGE array of synthesizers, guitar amps, and sound shaping/analysis plugs. For the type of music I do (solo singer/songwriter) I have more than enough sounds to embellish any style of music I plunge into.

And with Loops I can "sketch out" songs quickly while the inspiration is "fresh".

And once the recordings are complete the "fun" really starts with mixing and mastering the song into a "CD quality" production. Logic affords me to perform "micro-surgery" in both the Audio and MIDI domains. And the MIDI editing capabilities are even more powerful than my old Hybrid Arts SMPTE TRK Pro SW which in its day, was considered to be "state of the art" in MIDI software. It becomes very easy to experiment with different arrangements.

If you are on the fence about buying Logic, jump in. You will be glad you did and you can get on with what matters most...making music.

the Mastering Utilities alone are worth $500 dollars...

    • Written by from tampa

the Mastering Utilities alone are worth $500 dollars...

Any diehard Protools user should still buy Logic for the mastering software.... MultiPress is indispensible.....and all the mastering presets are a great time saver....(just bounce your final mix and import it into Logic for mastering).

When it comes to MIDI...Logic's "humanize" function works perfectly.....the performance has to be correct but "humanize" will make a MIDI track sound organic...I record MIDI in Logic then bounce the track into Protools if I need to....

If you have good preamps.....your recordings will sound top notch!!!

*Note I live and work in a multi million dollar recording studio....

I just can't believe how much better this DAW is compared to the stuff I have used in the past. I have used Sonar, Project 5, and Acid and this is by far the best. You get tons of sounds and the flex tool is a dream. Can't wait for Logic Pro 10.

    Best DAW for musicians

    • Written by from Franklin, TN

I've been using various systems for years in my home studio and finally got Logic Studio last weekend. In no time at all I've learned how to effortlessly perform edits, manipulate recorded audio, setup virtual instruments ... you name it. These are things that were so difficult in my previous DAW that I either didn't do it or simply re-tracked the recording. As a musician who just wants to make music this is my DREAM product. Seriously, after years of fighting with other products I feel like I've been set free.

Thank you for such a great product!

    Logic gets more love.

    • Written by from Texarkana

I work with many DAW's on an every day basis, including Protools. In fact would have rated Protools as my go to DAW before version 9 of Logic Pro. However, Logic Pro 9 is hands down my go to DAW. Drum editing in slice/flex mode is unbelievable! On a Mac Pro, native recording has come a long way. It's as good as Protools HD in that arena. I still use Protools (version 9) when I get Protools' sessions to mix from other studios, and it works great - but if I'm doing a project start to finish at my studio, it's done in Logic.

ProTools LE...? Well, I use to love you but now I just like you.

    • Written by from Albion

Okay... um... This DAW is a BEAST!!!! ProTools LE you really need to spend some time with Logic and see what an affordable DAW should be like. The Jam pack is jam packed with sweet goodness. User friendly, beautiful sound quality, gentle on the CPU, and much more. Wish you could use VST's and RTAS' but hey... nobody is perfect. Still worth it to me. I'll just use my ProTools for the plug-ins and bounce into LOGIC. Works for me. BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! Or you can sit in a room and be in the dark.

    Extremely Cool X 1,000,000

    • Written by from Amarillo

The new amps and pedal board are awesome. All the new features are a plus. Don't listen to the dude about there being no manuals because there is. Help/Logic Pro Help/Logic Pro 9: User Manual. There is help for Apogee hardware owners and Control Surfaces Support.

The application loads faster and does a much better job at distributing the load to multi processors. All my plugins work flawlessly with the software. When I cranked up the upgrade, Logic picked up right were I left off with my last project. Not a big deal but I like the fact that it is backward compatible.

I'm a huge fan of Logic Pro and am glad I purchased the upgrade.

Logic Studio Pro - You don't need anything else.....

    • Written by from Colorado Springs

I purchased Studio Logic 9 over a year ago and at the time I was a novice when it came to making music, I used Fruity Loops, but I wanted to try something different. I was stuck between buying the ProTools MBox Pro 2 and Studio Logic. I bought both... BIG MSTAKE From the get go, I've loved Studio Logic 9. When I asked for opinions on Studio Logic, people told me that it was complicated and hard to use, I found it EASY to use when I opened the box. The DAW is simple enough to use the first day, YET it offers so many options and features to take your music to a professional level its ridiculous. The more you interface with Logic and explore its features, you become more aware of where you can take your music. I'm not gonna lie, at one point I bought a book because I wanted to become an expert right away and learn all the intricacies, so I bought a book that explained alot of additonal features from Amazon. I also found video tutorials on Youtube by a guy name David Earl, his videos are amazing and he has a gift for teaching, so if you do get Studio Logic (I RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO) I recommend that you find him on YouTube and view the videos they will help. I use the MBox Pro 2 as an audio interface thats it.......It was a $600.00 mistake.

    Logic 9, SICK!

    • Written by from hamburg

Ive been waiting for logic 9, i knew they were just gonna throw it out there with no warning. Whatever though, Logic 9 is ridiculous, its by far the best DAW out there rite now! If your a Logic user and are thinking of upgrading DO IT! you dont even have to wait for updates, i was gonna wait to buy it till a few months when they maybe worked out some bugs or whatever but i just grabbed it and here i am with a sick program, runs super smooth and fast (imac 2.66 intel, 4g ram) and is way less buggy than logic 8, plus the flex tool and the updates the the plugins, plus the amp desiner and petals .only 200 to upgrade from 8!!! ive had L9 for only yesterday and this mourning and i havent got off the computer only to sleep and go to the bathroom! I LOVE LOGIC 9!

    Skeptics need not apply!

    • Written by from Reno

Don't be a skeptic, m-kay! Well, I've used this software extensively now, and I must say it is one of the DAW's that is ranking the highest of all DAW's I've ever used. Fantastic user interface and usability. I do however enjoy ProTools interface quite well and the fluid flow that comes with pt software. Logic, however, have outdone themselves with the amount of plug-ins and loops. No one comes close to the amount of options in Logic. Thank you Apple!

    A Huge Hit!

    • Written by from Mount Vernon

I have been a user of Logic since 7, but when i needed a quicker way to quantize audio, i switched to pro tools because of elastic and beat detective...when i heard about flex time i was so excited i was tired of the sterile sounding digi hardware that i was locked into using. Logic really got it right with this one. Logic 9, a duet, and MBP and I'm all set to document my song ideas, and create with and for other artist too. The amp sims are incredible! i really feel like im playing a great sounding tube amp when i pull up amp designer. The pedal board is a great feature as well, i can really dial in the tone exactly like i hear it in my head, without pulling out a million patch cables and chunky pedals. The guitar features, flex mode, and drum replacer was enough for me to make the long awaited jump back to Logic. Thanks Apple. keep it up.
