    $50 Down The Drain

    • Written by from BOULDER

I am now on my second Speck SmartShell for the MBA 13" I purchased in January 2014. The first one cracked and the tabs that hold the bottom shell on literally disintegrated within 2 months of owning it. I sent it back to Speck (and paid the shipping!) and they sent me another one but this one has the same problem. When I got my 2nd one I also bought one for my hubby's MBP 15" - his has suffered the same fate despite the fact that his laptop never leaves home and mostly lives on a desk. I do take mine to work, in a padded case and I am very fastidious about the care of my laptop but still I've got a case with two missing corners, several cracks and no way to keep the bottom shell attached. This case, in my opinion, is an epic failure with regards to materials and lack of durability. I wish I'd spent that $100 elsewhere.

    Waste of money

Had two, the first one lasted a few months before one of the clips sheered off the bottom part of the case somehow. The Apple store was cool enough to replace it for me but within a couple months, it happened again to my second one. Waste of money... would not buy again.

    Cracked After 2 Days :(!

I received this case and was shocked at the quality for the $50 price. I put it on my new Airbook, and it didn't really go on that easily. 2 days later I realized that one of the corners was lifting so I went to pull it off and the case cracked. So not only does it not go on properly, but when you go to fix it, you'll break the cheap flimsy plastic. Don't waste your time and money on this garbage.
Luckily Apple has a great return policy so I was able to return it at no cost.

if there were a zero option, i'd give it

This is not worth the money. in fact, my case cracked as I was putting it on and i said, well, it's just a crack, i'll live it with it. The thing lasted a year, and basically my mac sits on my desk . Then it started cracking all over and then became lopsided.

I do not recommend this product.

    Don't waste your $50

My sister purchased one and it broke within weeks. She doesn't travel with her Mac Book and it mostly just sits on her kitchen table or couch. Her case was still under warranty, so Speck sent another one. The 2nd one broke in a matter of weeks. She finally gave up. Mine broke within a matter of months. In my opinion I'm not sure how much this protects the device, so I won't be purchasing this again.

This didn't even last a year! It cracked on the edges within weeks. The other day I picked it up off of the table and it cracked even worse! This case is too expensive to break this easy!

Cracked and broken within a couple of months

I got this with my new macbook air and expected it to last at least for the length of the advertised "1 year warranty" however, the bottom was cracked and broken within a couple of months despite the care with which I handled my laptop at all times. Huge waste of 50$. This product is terribly overpriced for the horrendous quality.

    Do not buy this product!!!

I bought the product for their phone case reputation. Boy was I wrong! I've had the case for no longer than 4 days and there is already a crack in the left back hook. From the first time i put it on my mac it didn't fit properly! Massively disappointed speck!

    worst case ever.

I bought one last year for my mac. Its never fit the mac properly yet i bought the right specs. It took me forever to get the case, cause they didn't have the colour i wanted at first. The one i have is broken and only on the bottom. What bothers me is i bought this product to take care of my mac and its left white marks on the bottom of my computer and scratch marks on it. So not worth it. Im so annoyed that I've bought this as well.

    Definitely NOT worth the money...

If I'd had the option, I wouldn't have given this product even one star. I purchased this case alongside my 13-in MacBook Pro back in February of 2014. Within two weeks of my having put it on my laptop, the bottom casing cracked along the edges and, within a month, would not even stay on. I ended up taking it off and then purchasing a new case elsewhere for around $20.00: I've had said case for a month now and it has thus far proven a far better investment than the SmartShell. To cut to the short of it, don't waste your money. There are alternatives to the Speck case; all one has to do is shop around a bit.

    Terrible Case

    • Written by from Dundas

For $50 you would expect the case to last, I only use my computer at home and the case lasted under a year, the clips on the side of the bottom part are broken and it wont stay on anymore. Would not recommend this case to anyone.

    Smart, No -- Speck, yes

Horrible waste of $52. Am very particular about my computer, very protective of it in every way. This was the only protective case the Apple store had it when I bought my newest MacBook Air. Cracked in many places within three months--despite the care I gave it. Saw a lady in a hotel's breakfast area with the same computer, same case. Hers cracked also despite her protection of the computer.
Bottom line: this is but a speck of protection for any MacBook Air!
