Switching to MAC when you retire from a 25 years working on Windows

    • Written by from Charleston

Since 1996, I have used Use Quicken for my business and Personal Life as well. I can't function without it. It works for me in so many ways. Quicken for MAC can't even write checks, and gets poor reviews.
I do my own Business and Personal Taxes using Turbo-Tax. Turbo-Tax for MAC isn't rated well either.
But my wife and my son insisted I convert to MAC, and every Friend my age was doing the same.
Parallel was the clincher. It made the conversion a breeze. I can use Quicken and TurboTax on windows. I can switch back and forth and keep both open. I am sure there is much more I could be doing with Parallel, but I am thrilled. I love the MAC, and I don't have to convert to the MAC versions.

    Beta days

    • Written by from Westlake

I have been using Parallels since the beta test days and have yet to experience a problem with the system. No crashes and no viruses. When running Parallels on my Mac Book Pro my Windows programs run faster than when I run them on my HP computer. From here on out its a Mac with Parallels for me. No more buying Windows machines.

    love it!

I do need to run Office 2013 for my dayly business, so got an office365 account and parallels and I really do love it: win8 on a MacPro is much faster than on all native machines (shut down and reboot in less than 20 seconds), all things work like magic (network is fine, printing is doing, even clipboard works seamlessly: all the things you want integrated are done perfectly with the parallels platform, so I really do recommend to invest the 80 (or something) bucks and forget about all hazzle, since there is none.

    Better and Better

    • Written by from Redmond

I've been using Parallels since version 7. The product gets better and the experience smoother with each release. They do some in your face advertisements which is annoying, but they are easy dismissed. Coherence mode works very well and full screen seems like you're working on a different machine. All in all, very happy with Parallels Desktop.

    Works well for me

    • Written by from Phoenix

I used to use Bootcamp with my old Macbook, but Parallels came with the new one so I decided to give it a shot. It works really well. Very quick and plays nice with Mavericks. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the configuration menu isn't that intuitive. If you want to change settings, you have to hunt through them to find what you're looking for. An example is if you want to change it from a VM that works like a single Windows screen to act more like a Mac program.

I use it primarily for connecting to my office network and apps.

Parallels Removes Any Excuse For Windows Users not to GO Mac

    • Written by from Downingtown

Parallels lets you create multiple virtual machines, simply. Those migrating from Windows to Mac....be not afraid. You can create substantially powered virtual instances by assigning memory and processing power as needed to run substantial sessions with some power-hungry Win software. I have 16GB of memory and share it with two virtual instances...Windows 7 AND Windows 8.1. It's let me keep up to speed with work (a Windows shop) and personal needs. Setup/config is simple, and with "Snapshot" I can save a config before I experiment or upgrade in the Win World. I prefer staying in the Mac/OS X world, but when I must venture in to the Microsoft realm for work-related needs, Parallels makes it happen...virtually. Migrated from VMWare Fusion about a year ago...no regrets.

    I like it

    • Written by from LAKEWOOD

I use Windows Vista with Parallels 9 on a MacBook Pro to run apps that are not available for the Mac. It's an effective alternative to buying a PC and shares files with the Mac relatively seamlessly. It would be nice if it started more quickly, as I need the Windows environment only occasionally and don't leave Parallels running, but otherwise it's about as transparent a solution to the problem of running Windows on a PC as I can imagine.

    Parallels Desktop 9 on Mac

    • Written by from Kailua Kona

Made the switch to Mac recently and needed the ability to run some windows business software. Downloaded the free trial version of Parallels 9 and it worked like a charm! Was happy to pay for the full version of parallels at that point. Now I can use my windows programs on my Mac with the signature lightning speed of the Mac computer. Wish I had done it sooner!

    Love this software!

    • Written by from Alabaster

Recently switched to a MAC from a PC and this software has made the transition seamless. Some of the programs I used are PC only and with Parallels it's so easy to move from my MAC to the Virtual Machine and access those programs.

Works Best in Full Screen View

    • Written by from Nashville

I have a MacBook Pro Retina with 2 Thunderbolt monitors. When I run Parallels in Full Screen mode on of the monitors, it's just like using Windows 7 (thank God). However, in Coherence mode -- which is my preferred mode -- I get a lot of freaky behavior. I still love the product but I do hope the next release fixes this problem.

    Gotta be Happy with 98%

    • Written by from Carlsborg

OK, so nothing is 100%, Parallels not excluded. But it sure is close. There are numerous applications that are simply not mature on the Apple platform. There, I said it. Yea, yea, there is always someone out there that will try to talk you into something close, but for me, "close" doesn't cut it. So I absolutely need to run the Windows applications. Not to mention that there are a ton of applications that just are not available for the Mac platform.

So, the 98% thing. Parallels works very well, I have yet to encounter any show-stopping events. Yea, it crashes occasionally, but so do my Mac apps. And yea, there is some fiddle-factor involved, but ditto on my Mac. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't go back to the Windows / PC platform wholesale ever again, I LOVE my Mac, but there are a bunch of great reasons to run Parallels and Windows.

    Highly recommended and 98% stable.

Win7 Lives On - Atop a Much Better Machine

    • Written by from Sammamish

Parallels has turned out to be a peachy ticket to salvation as far as I am concerned.

It allowed a hardware upgrade whilst maintaining compatibility with the software and tools that I must keep using in my business, without having to switch from Windows 7 to Windows 8.

I've been a Dell laptop user since Microsoft acquired the start-up that employed me in 1997. It was late 2013 and my 4.5 year old Dell Latitude E6400 business machine was getting long in the tooth; I clearly needed an update.

I would have cheerfully bought a new Dell, were it not for Windows 8. It turns out that I could not purchase a new high performance laptop without also purchasing Win8. Win8 is an abomination. I refused to pay big bucks to suffer with that turkey. So, I shopped the other store...

I landed with a spanking new 15" MacBook Pro with the Retina display. And was quickly, delightfully surprised at just how easy the transition turned out to be. My new MacBook Pro is the sweetest piece of portable PC hardware that I've ever had the pleasure to use.

Thanks to Parallels, it is also the best Windows 7 machine that I've ever used. The Win7 environment runs flawlessly atop the Mac. I've yet to encounter a backwards compatibility issue with the legacy Windows-only applications and tools that I must still use.

Job well done! Thank you for creating such a nice tool.
