Really nice - actually better than Apple's iPhone 4/4s bumper in some ways

    • Written by from MARBLEHEAD

This is a very well made bumper. I've used it for a month and the fit is still very tight - no stretching at all and it's held up extremely well.

The Tavik bumper is very similar to the bumper Apple made for the iPhone 4/4s with a few exceptions:

    1) The power and volume buttons are rubber not metal
    2) This bumper does NOT have the problem where the rubber stretches around the headphone jack and makes the bumper fit become looser overall over time.

My only gripe is this: The power button, when the bumper was brand new, took a lot of pressure to actually power on/off the phone. It has since "broken in" and operates as expected - easily turning the phone on/off. It's the only reason I knocked it down a star.

Otherwise, excellent bumper. Maintains the thinness of the iPhone 5 or 5s. I have had no problems having it work with the standard apple Lightning Charger. Fits nicely.

Great Product! Lightning connector fits fine...

    • Written by from Mountain view

I was interested in this case because i really like the bumper case idea for the iPhone. After reading the previous review about the lightning connector not fitting, i went to my local apple store and checked it out first hand. I am not sure which connector the other person was using, but the apple lightning connector fit perfectly. As for the case, the feel is great and it looks awesome on my black and slate iPhone 5. My only complaint would be that the lock button looses its tactile feedback with the case on. However, this seems to be fairly common across all cases i have used!

    Great Case

Design is rad. Like the 2 color combo. Lightning connector works with Apple cords but not all other company's chargers, I came to find out. Still love it.

Do Not Buy the White Case

    • Written by from Los Angeles

Purchased the white colored case for my white iPhone 5s and just three days later the non-coated areas of the bumper have turned black (front and back edges). A fairly expensive case that looks like it has seen better days in just the three it has been used for.

In my opinion this is a design flaw. They should use a different material for the edges to prevent this.

Great case if you have steel finger tips

    • Written by from CHICAGO

You can not use the buttons on this case without hurting your finger tips. I resorted to using finger nails for the volume buttons. The case is solid but very poorly designed and it is unlikely to be on the market much longer until the button problems are resolved.

    Too Solid of Build Quality.

    • Written by from LAWNDALE

I've been looking for the best iPhone 5 Bumper and I thought I had finally found it with this Tavik Case. I like that the bottom is covered with enough space for the Lightning Connector and Headphones. After 24 hours with the bumper, I think I'm returning it. My biggest complaint would have to be the buttons. You have to apply a considerable amount of pressure to the Sleep/Wake and Volume buttons. It actually hurts your fingers. Another reviewer stated that it took time to "break in" the buttons, but it should be like that once you take it out of the box. Packaging is very nice, but the product inside has a large flaw. I'll give it another couple of days and see how it feels, but right now, not worth the price paid.

    Great bumper!

    • Written by from Pasco

I had the Apple brand bumper for the 4s and loved it. This case is an improvement in many ways.

    Pros:
-Rubber is stiffer, will not degrade as easily
-Snaps onto the phone, unlike the 4s bumper, there's no section that is only rubber to break
-Fits firmly on the phone, doesn't feel flimsy or loose

    Meh:
-Still has a very small opening for the ports, works fine for standard lightning connector and EarPods, but does fit the lightning to HDMI adapter or most headphones.

    Cons:
-Buttons for volume and power are VERY firm. The other reviews are correct in stating that the amount of force required to use the power button can hurt your finger.
-BUT, there's an easy fix: While not snapped onto the phone, exercise the buttons. After less than a minute of wearing in the power button, it now takes what I would consider to be a "normal" amount of force to actuate.

While I don't foresee needing a new one after a year like i did with the 4s, I'd gladly re-buy for another year.

    White looks nice...at first

    • Written by from Virginia Beach

First, someone else stated the lightning adapter does not fit. It DOES if it's the USB to lightning, it does NOT if you are using a 30 Pin to Lightning adapter. The plug on the adapter is slightly bigger than the usb cable...not really a deal breaker for me, but that would be a loss of one star..The reason for the 2 star review..I bought the white one. I LOVE the bumper, but the soft rubber part started getting dirty after just a couple days and now, just over 2 weeks later, it looks like I have a hard plastic bumper with light brown/tan soft rubber edges and button covers. One more thing, the lock button is a little hard to push as well. I'm sure this bumper would fit my needs perfectly IF I wanted a colored one, but I really wanted something to show off my white iPhone..pink would be my second choice, but unfortunately it looks as though the white part of the pink bumper is the part on mine that turned yellow/brown. I WOULD recommend this case, I just wouldn't recommend the WHITE.

    One design flaw

    • Written by from Carnegie

The opening for the charging port appears larger than it is. When you buy it, you think it will fit most chargers, but in fact, the opening has a little lip inside of it that reduces the diameter. The OEM Apple charger fits, but almost no other wall or car charger fits.

OK if all you have are Apple chargers, but I need more flexibility than that.

    pretty darn nice

    • Written by from Jacksonville

I just purchased this bumper yesterday and can already say that it is by far the best bumper I have owned (and I've had a few). It is built with quality and feels sturdy. For a bumper it feels like it can offer significant protection (other than direct impact to screen or back side) from simple drops. It looks great and compliments the phone's good looks. I think it's worth it.

    I really love this case

    • Written by from Sierra Madre

I originally wanted the Speck PixelSkin HD, but I discovered that the 5 version is far inferior to the 4. I wanted a case that both looks good and protects the corners from falls. The Outer Edge case satisfies both requirements. The edge is substantial enough to protect the phone from corner impacts, and it provides enough space on both the front and back sides to safely lay the phone on a flat surface. It also fits very snugly--there is no way the phone will ever slip out of the case. Visually, the case is about as minimalist as it gets--the beauty of the phone is not hidden by a ton of plastic, and the slim form factor of the phone is essentially unaffected by the bumper design. Of course, all this means that there is more risk of scratching the phone with keys or coins if one keeps the phone in the same pocket with other objects. As I never put anything in the same pocket as the phone, I am able to prevent damage to the device. As far as the stiff buttons are concerned, that is true--it is difficult--at first--to operate the volume buttons. However, the buttons got easier to operate after a few days usage, and now that is not a problem any more. If you want a minimalist case that provides basic protection from falls while preserving the beauty of the phone, and you are careful to keep other objects away from the phone, then this case is one you should consider.

    Love this bumper!

    • Written by from Midland

I absolutely love this product, and I have tried a lot of bumpers. The iphone 5S is so beautiful, why would you want to cover it up? This bumper looks great while only covering the edges. Everything you need (buttons and attachments) are still accessible. The feel is great with softer plastic around the edges to allow it to grip so you can set it on an angled surface for instance, and a harder plastic in the middle. The plastic looks nice - doesn't look cheap. Some have complained about the top button being hard to push. It is certainly harder to push than with no cover, but I don't think it's too bad given the advantages offered by this bumper.

I use mine in combination with a Zagg HD invisishield on the back and the new Zagg glass on the front, and this bumper is compatible with both. The only way the phone could look better is if I had unlimited funds and left it naked and exposed.

    Poor case

    • Written by from Hinsdale

Very difficult to turn on and off or use the volume buttons. The older version bumper was much better then this one. This is just a cheaper and poor quality version of the old one!!!! If you had the old bumper you will be very disappointed with this one!!!!!!

    Good quality, poor design

    • Written by from Moorestown

The quality of this product is actually quite good. The materials used are top-shelf and it's solidly built.

The problem is the design. The sides of the case are very smooth and almost greasy feeling. This makes it somewhat slippery when holding your phone in your hand. In fact, if I lay my iPhone vertically in my hand and use a very loose grip, it slides down very easily. Other cases I've used have much more grip.

The other big issue are the button covers. The on/off switch at the top is very stiff and requires an unnatural amount of force to sleep or wake your iPhone. The volume buttons are also very stiff, with very little feedback.

The case itself is a little too padded overall, make for a bit of a wider grip than I would like. If your primary concern is to have maximum protection in a bumper, I think this offers it, but you'll have to weigh that against the flaws noted above.

Overall, I cannot recommend this case - especially at this expensive price - because of its glaring design flaws. There are much cheaper bumper cases that are available, and though they might not last as long, they offer a much more user-friendly design.

Practical but inelegant in black with the 5s

    • Written by from LONDON

Fits very snugly and found no issue with buttons being difficult to press. However on an aesthetic level the black bumper does not look great on the black/space gray 5s. That's because space gray has a warmer hue than the bluer charcoal grey of the black bumper's perimeter. Creates an unfortunate color clash when you look at the back of the phone.

    Best Bumper

    • Written by from Chicago

I've had a lot of bumpers but this one is easily the best for the iPhone 5.
It is rigid and not overly flimsy. I fits perfectly and doesn't seem to come away from the iphone at all.
Very happy with it and love the color.

    READ THIS !!!

    • Written by from Sugar Land

I have many cases! I got the red Tavik bumper. The bumper is uber high quality...fits tightly around the iPhone with no chance of sagging or getting loose (at least at this time). Surprisingly, for such a tight case, it is fairly easy to take off. And because it is tight, there is no chance of the corners to peel back on impact (front or rear face). Everything is great...EXCEPT power/sleep button. It is hard to press and hurts your finger(s) with repeated press. So, why 5 stars?

READ THIS: There is an EASY fix to the power button. Take a SHARP POINTED KNIFE. From top of bumper (withOUT your iPhone in it!), stab/punture the SIDES of the power button...two tiny holes on EACH side of the button. This releases the tension. Put tiny holes, NOT anything bigger. Make it so that the pointed end of the knife JUST comes thru the plastic/rubber on the inside. 4 holes total...2 each side. TAVIK just made the tension too much with the power button...this "mod" releases the tension.

NOW, the power button works PERFECT! CLICKY TOO. Easy to press with a satisfying click.

Hope this helps...AWESOME BUMPER...HIGH QUALITY. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. It is compatible with ZAGG HD front & back protectors. It does NOT eat too much into the display...so, should be OK with 99.9% of protectors.

    Hope this helps!
