Large failure rate - Poor Support

    • Written by from Aurora

I own many WeMo devices, including this Motion detector / switch. Unfortunately, this device is just like the rest of a WeMo line of products, it is not reliable and often fails. I have a room with no motion in it and It keeps getting triggered. There is no way to adjust anything on it.

Most WeMo switches just drop off the grid for no reason and you lose control over them. It is a common occurance and any WeMo owner will tell you the same thing. Wait, wait and wait some more, then they reconnect again. Wifi Signals are fine but the switches don't act like it.

If you are interested in WeMo devices and all the bad reviews have not turned you away from them, keep your receipt and boxs because chances are, you will return it.

They do constant software updates and no issues are ever resolved. The APPS are just too basic and dummed down.

There is a long history of compaints for every WeMo device. Belkin must have a large profit margin since it does not seem to bother them and they more than make up for all the returns and bad reviews.

Take note of the reviews, the product is junk and you will be sorry you invested time and money in it.

Worked perfectly but interfered with garage door opener

    • Written by from Mokena

Simple installation and setup. But rendered my garage door opener useless. The WeMo switch interfered with my garage door opener so badly that the opener remote would only work from a few feet away. I wish there was a viable solution because otherwise the switch worked great.

    Simply unreliable, do not buy

    • Written by from Mexico

I have one Insight Switch connected to a USB charger that power another electronic, the Switch turn itself off by no reason at random times, I m suspecting some kind of interference from the charger (Its a brand name one), for me this is a fault on their design or a miss in their user manual, in the other hand support is not useful at all, they are only good at send you canned answers. Worst of all there is no voice on the support for HomeKit at the moment, so my advice is not buy for now, they need to fix their firmware, improve their customer support and support HomeKit for the Apple users

    Has worked flawlessly for me!

    • Written by from Portland

Title says it all. I'm not sure why so many have reviewed this product with so many issues. I have found them to connect without issue, be programed without issue, revise the schedule without issue, and show up on 3 different devises (2 iphones, 1 iPad) reliably. I have 6 plug in units and 3 in-wall switches and all of them were purchased at different times from both retail and ebay. All of them work great. My only complaint is that you can only program them from your smart phone. I would like there to be a desktop version of the app so I can program from my computer as well.

    Sunrise Sunset

    • Written by from West Kelowna

I've read many of the reviews dealing with this issue and add that as of Feb 15/15 there is still no fix. I am able to program my lights to turn on at sunset and it works fine for that day but the time does not change as the sunset time changes. I've been in contact with Wemo but they just keep sending cookie cutter responses pointing to my modem/router. The modem/ router does not carry the task of adjusting to sunset change. They're all idiots to allow this problem to get to this stage. DO NOT BUY.

    Complete and utter rubbish

    • Written by from Warwick

This cannot be relied up for switching electronics / heaters on and off, simply because it does not reliably allow you to do this. This obviously poses a serious safety risk and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Belkin get sued over something like a house fire, caused by the malfunction of one of their devices / this app (whichever is to blame) .

Crashes every time you try to use schedule

    • Written by from Boston

Do not bother wasting your money on one of these. The main feature they push, being able to run a device such as a light on a schedule, crashes every time on both android and iOS. For the amount they charge for this it is very annoying that such basic functionality does not work. We will be returning ours and I suggest you look for a different product.

WeMo Switch does not connect to wifi

    • Written by from Carrollton

I would not waste any money or time on purchasing this product. It does not connect to your wifi network. I was thinking that you could also connect remotely to this device, but that is not the case which makes it useless. Even if it connected to your wifi, the best that it could describe it is an expensive remote control.

    Stay Away!

The Belkin WeMo device does not work remotely

    • Written by from Scottsdale

The Belkin WeMo switch simply DOES NOT WORK REMOTELY which defeats its purpose. I bought the device to control a light on a second home. The device works in the home while I am there in person. As I go away and try to control it remotely from another house simply does not work. I have done this twice to no avail. The reason I bought it was to control it remotely. What good does it do if it cannot be controlled remotely. If it works only when I am there (i.e. were the device is) I may as well get up from my computer and turn the light switch on and throw away the device. Absolutely worthless. Don't waist your money by buying a WeMo switch. Wish I could get my money back, actually is not the money is false advertising that bothering me.

I believe it upgraded to a firmware that no longer works. I have three units that are now all useless. They will not connect to the Wi-Fi no matter what. I do not recommend this product at this time.

    Wemo app crash, cannot open

    • Written by from Anjou

I had two wemo insight swith devices on my network before and everything was working well. Yesterday, i added to more wemo insight switch and now, wemo app become unstable and crash when i try to open the app. For 4 devices, it's to much for the app, to work on ios 8.1 on iphone 4s. I finaly removed a device and now wemo app is more stable. Is it a problem with ios or wemo app? I don't know, but don't buy it now if you need more than 3 devices.

    It continually crashes

    • Written by from Maumee

I have used the plug outlets and several light switches for over a year. With each upgrade in firmware they crash more frequently. Since iOS 8 it doesn't stay up more than a second and it crashes both on iPad and iPhone. Now rules are not working either. Don't buy this product!!

WeMo Insight turns on/off randomly. Have reset/restored it over and over. No reason why it should be turning on/off rapidly in succession. Belkin support is no help.

Good Devices and Work as Claimed...IF you have a strong Wifi Router

    • Written by from Calgary

When I first began installing these devices I noticed I'd lose them from the device list. I'd have to reset the router to get them reconnected so they could be rediscovered. As I began to actually depend on the devices it got more and more annoying when they'd drop off the device list. I had wifi extenders which seemed to help, but I'd still lose devices.

For various other reasons I opted to upgrade my wifi router. The new one seemed to work worse than the old one, with ALL the WEMO devices dropping off in one gulp. I blamed the router...but before junking it I thought I'd try some "tricks" to reduce interference and to promote a stronger signal. They worked. Turns out my router was fine...it was where it was placed, and interference from my neighbors' routers that was creating all my wifi troubles.

So I've had a good solid several weeks of strong wifi connections and reliable use. The built-in rules for WEMO are very nice but tying the WEMO devices to the IFTTT system really adds some unique functionality. I can turn on my bedroom light and, at the same time, the lamps turn on as well. I have a heater in my garage that only turns on if it's actually cold outside. When my family comes home the outdoor lights turn automatically when my smartphone tells them we've returned to the area.

I have 16 wemo devices now and I fully intend on adding at least two more (so that all the lights on one floor are WEMO enabled).

But I'll agree with some of the other posters...if you've got a weak wifi signal, or wifi interference, they're annoying as heck to set up and maintain. And even if you do set them up, despite the interference/weak-signal, they may not function as you'd hoped (may not connect completely to IFTTT services).

So only get these if you've got a strong, reliable, wifi signal where-ever you plan on placing the wemo.
