Reviews for Logitech m555b Wireless Mouse for Mac

I've bought this mouse just for CAD work on my MacBook Pro. It's been pretty good so far, and I love the fact that it doesn't use a USB port.

I essentially wanted to comment on Paul H's review: it IS possible to use this mouse for CAD, with the (more than necessary) Orbit function. You just need to assign a button to 'Third Click' control. I personally assigned the button below the scroll wheel and it works just fine.

To do this you just need to download Logitech's latest mouse software called Control Center, which by the way helps you configure every part of this mouse the way you want to.

I just mean to make sure people who want a mouse for CAD don't disregard this one too fast, because I think it's a good one that does the job really well.

This is the most wonderful mouse I can imagine in terms of function, when it functions. Unfortunately, it has a fatal flaw: it disconnects from the iMac once a day if not more frequently. I contacted Logitech Customer Service where I found the problem identified and explained with regard to countermeasures. The problem is caused by either conflicting electronic signals generated by other devices, or the mouse being placed to far from the computer. There are no electronic signaling devices on or near my desk that are not essential for the use of my iMac, and I had already moved and kept the mouse as close as possible to the Mac (that is, directly under it). Keeping the Logitech M555b-mac directly under the iMac seemed to solve the problem, but then after a while it just disconnected again despite the fact that the batteries were new and the mouse was directly under the iMac, so I threw the $50 nearly new product into the trash, because I was so in love with the way it worked that I had kept it past the 14 day trial period. Now I am looking for another Logitech mouse because my Magic Mouse is not satisfactory for my use (see my review of that product).

I've always been a huge Logitech fan, and have been using their VX Nano, Anywhere MX, and Performance MX for years. Hyper-fast scrolling is great. The m555b is the worst Logitech mouse I've ever used. I bought it because I have a 13" Macbook Air, neded a right mouse button for Linux and Windows VMs, and didn't want to use up a usb port for a mouse. I tried the Apple Magic mouse, but it isn't suitable for other OS VMs. The m555b has several critical problems. First, the bluetooth lag was constantly annoying, and is especially noticeable with the scroll wheel. Secondly, the laser mouse will not track properly on most surfaces ... such as tabletops; you have to use a mousepad or sheet of paper to get it to track properly. Bringing along a mouse pad is not especially practical for laptops. Thirdly, the mouse has a less ergonomic feel than most mice, and is not comfortable. After a couple days of use, I decided to return the m555b and go back to my usb hub and Logitech Anywhere MX mouse.
