    Too fragile, easily broken.

    • Written by from Bexley

While the sound quality, product design, and packaging are all amazing, the product itself is not reliable. I bought two of these in 2012, only to have them for a couple months before both of the left ear-buds gave out. Just recently--literally last week--I thought I'd give this one more shot. I spent nearly $200.00 only to run into this problem, again. For now on, I'm sticking with my B&W P5 headphones--I've had this for more than a year, and it's still working great.

Great company, but horrible, horrible product.

Phenomenal sound, some minor design flaws.

    • Written by from New York

I purchased a pair of C5's after a great experience with the MM1's. The sound from these was fantastic, and I abandoned my pair of Klipsch's in favor of these. I found that the main drawback to the C5's is that they are not good for running (they don't stay in place), but are fine for less motion-intensive work outs (e.g., weights, etc.). Unfortunately about 8 months after buying these one of the ear pieces stopped working. I contacted B&W, they asked me to send them in, and sent back a brand new pair in a shockingly short period of time (I sent them out on Friday and had a new pair on Monday -- I kid you not.) Ever since then I've been thrilled with these. I was using them for home use and commuting until I bought a pair of P5's for home. Now I use these to get great sound when I'm out and about and can just stuff the earbuds in my pocket when they're not needed.

    Good sound is not enough...

    • Written by from New York

Im at the fourth pair. All the other three had stopped working properly within months. I like the sound (5 stars-for the price range), the noise canceling (5 stars), the fit is good (4stars),but is frustrating to get new ones every few months because some of the build quality, most likely cord connections (1 star). If this fourth pair fails soon too, will try to get the wires replaced with a different brand from other headphones I have... I would not buy this again unless they address the issue.

    Meh

I love these earphones! The sound is really clear, really nice. Unfortunately, they broke after a month. The left earbud stopped working. I'm gonna try to get them replaced... It's too bad because I LOVE the earphones.

Great Sound.but broken after 2 weeks of use.

    • Written by from Alpharetta

I really hate to give this review because I really do love the sound but I am having the same quality issues that many on this site are having. My right earbud stop working after about 2 weeks. I really really want to buy them again but can't risk $180 on a pair of earbuds if I think they are going to break at anytime. If they were under $100 I would buy them in a heartbeat just for the sound.

2 year warranty - cable loop wore out 15 months after purchase

    • Written by from San Francisco

The headphones have a very true sound which I appreciate. The loop design is unique and works well to position the headphones in my ears. However I cannot rate these highly as the B+W warranty of 2 years while generous compared to some other brands wasn't long enough to deal what I would call expected wear based on the design.

The loops bend the cables constantly where it meets the ear bud. Over time this wears and the outer sheath eventually cracked on one side. After contacting B+W I was told this is an out of warranty repair and will thus cost $100. Since that's more than 50% of the cost I'd rather invest in different headphones with a different design such as Shure.

    C5-great sound but sadly unreliable

    • Written by from Toronto

Got my first pair of C5s and loved the seal and fit, really comfortable. Great range and clarity of sound, second to none- and the noise cancelling is the best I have seen for ear buds. Unfortunately, my first pair stopped working abruptly on the left earpiece. This was ok, as it was still under warranty, so they shipped a new pair right away. This pair worked fine for about 13 months when the right earpiece. Sadly, I am not going to bother trying to get a new set, I am going to give up on the B&W C5 because the quality is not acceptable...still trying to find a good in-ear set with the same range, bass and comfort as the C5.

    Best (in ear) headphone!

    • Written by from Torrance

i tried many different (in ear) headphones with the apple's 14 day return guaranteed. First, i bought Dr. Dre Tour, because i love the color, design, style. However, no matter what i tried i couldnt fit it into my ear and any movement(walking, running) it fell off. Even though the bass was good, i couldnt fit into my ear, even with all different ear. Then i tried rha ma750i, design was sexy, yet less bass compare to dr.dre. Then lastly tried, c5. Best sound, best bass, best fit. Buy it!! I recommend you to try the 14 day guarantee and try c5!! Boss! Cons: wire might be too thin. Feel like it might get broken if caught by something so careful! Noise isolation best!!

Terrible built quality - just don't buy

    • Written by from New York

I bought my C5 3 years ago. The first pair came defected and made terrible noise. It was replaced by B&W. The new pair, In less than a year the left ear stopped working completely. B&W replaced it again. This pair lasted almost a year as well, when both sides started being choppy. This time B&W refused to replace it, claiming only the original warranty stands (though evidently it wasn't their policy a year ago). I never used it for the gym. Never put it in my pocket. Never rolled it. It still looks new, the cable looks springy.

So you can say B&W have decent customer service, or terrible product, or both. Unless you want your pair for only one year, don't touch this.

A comparison with others I've tried

    • Written by from Golden Valley

I brought home the B & W C5s along with a Martin Logan Mikros 70 and a Bose SIE2i in order to determine which I preferred. Here is the result of my admittedly unscientific comparison.

    1. Fit. The B & W fit my ears the best. The Martin Logans moved around inside my ears and I always had the feeling they were about to fall out, using the largest tips provided that fit my ears, even though they never did. They were less comfortable than the B & Ws. I never did figure out how to get the wing mechanism on the Bose ear buds to fit my ears and I gave up trying. Admittedly, fit is a subjective thing and one has to try them to see which fit best.

    2. Sound. The B & W was by far the best sounding of the three, subject to the following caveat. When I used the largest of the tips provided, they created a pretty good seal from outside influences. When I did this, the base increased to a great degree and the music came alive. The differentiation between instruments, the sharp base and the overall clarity were fantastic and far exceeded that which I was able to achieve with the other two ear buds utilizing the largest tips provided that fit my ears. The other two ear buds were more mushy in sound with less differentiation among the instruments. However, when I ran on my treadmill utilizing the B & Ws with the largest tips provided, each time my foot hit the deck of my treadmill, it would create a very distracting thumping base sound in my ears that overrode the music. It was therefore impossible to run using those tips. (I suspect that this will also occur to a lesser degree when running outside, but since it is still very much winter where I live, I have not tried running outside with them yet.) When I changed the tips on the B & Ws back to those that were on them when I received the package (the third largest out of the four provided), the thumping base sound from the treadmill deck was eliminated, but so was the liveliness and fantastic base sound that came with my use of the largest tips. With these smaller tips, the B & Ws were not much better sounding than the other two ear buds that I tried. I will therefore utilize the larger tips when not running and the smaller size tips for running on the treadmill.

    Niche Product, Not OK

    • Written by from Toronto

I bought these based on the reviews on this site which are, if I'm being honest, kind of mixed. Turns out they're mixed for a reason. I had them for a week before returning them because after trying all five of the buds that came with them, I could not get a seal to save my life. On top of that, after an hour or so, the adjustable cord that goes in the outer part of your ear that is supposed to hold them in place, actually prevents them from creating a seal, and gave me a headache.

I should mention that when I held them in my ears to create a seal they did sound great but if you have to hold the buds in place, that's a failure in the design. The idea is good but I feel like it wasn't fully flushed out before the product was released. I was also really disappointed in the quality of the cords which were very thin and ill protected. I'm sure it wouldn't take much to snap one of them. Then there's the apple remote, really not a fan of this, Its hard to operate without looking at it. Anyways, really disappointed in the product because I thought I was buying something that was next-gen in design, when in reality its a product that needs a lot of work to make them useful for more than that small group of people who have ears they fit in.

Fantastic sound but would not recommend due to quality issues.

    • Written by from Calgary

Probably one of the best sounding in-ear or headphones hi have heard in a long time, being a non hard-core audiophile like myself it's hard it would be hard to see needing anything better than this. The first time they broke the left ear bud stopped working and B&W replaced (after a painful warranty process with there north america distributor), after another six months of not very hard to use the
Remote started failing and sending mixed signals to the iPhone causing the volume to go up without input and large amounts of static in the buds. I have no doubt that some people buy these and get great performance and longevity from them but unfortunately I was not one of them.

    Blown Away!

    • Written by from Calgary

What can I say, WOW! This is by far the nicest sounding set of headphones I have ever owned. The sound is natural, and sounds more like a set of nice speakers as opposed to traditional headphones that sound artificial (sound is blaring in your ear).

At first, I was frustrated with the loop design, however once I actually figured out how to wear them (you have to twist them in) I love the design and could not go back.

Do not hesitate, these are ridiculously awesome!!

Poor construction and shoddy assembly; great sound

    • Written by from Unity

These In-Ear phones produce some of the best sound that I have experienced. The quality of the sound is superior to the top of the line Schuur and Seinheiser, both of which I own. The sound isolation is excellent for a generic-fit in-ear phone.

Unfortunately the cables and control are wholly unreliable in my experience. The first pair that I tried was bad right out of the box. The second pair failed for the left channel within a few weeks. I will take the second pair back to the Apple store and see if they will give me a replacement.

I like the sound of these phones so much that I am willing to try again, and simply reserve these for airplane trips when sound isolation is so important.

AMAZING! Definitely worth the price tag.

    • Written by from Iowa City

I was reluctant to spend nearly $180 on earbuds; however, I decided to take a chance on the Bowers & Wilkins C5's and I am so glad I did. These in-ear headphones are AMAZING. The sound quality is superb, the headphones stay put thanks to the "secure loop" and are comfortable on top of it all. I would definitely recommend these headphones - especially to anyone reluctant to the higher price tag - take the plunge. You'll be glad you did.

    A melodic snuggle

    • Written by from houston

Like most folks living in a world of portable listening, I have a graveyard of retired headphones and earbuds. The headphones always feel like too much stuff and the earbuds are either very uncomfortable, or they fall out and the sound is less than desired.

The C5 is my pick. Comfortable...stays in with the very clever and adjustable loop...and sound great. These are great when flying, riding a train, isolating yourself in a noisy place or working out on a rowing machine. I can't say enough about the comfortable fit and their 'stay-in' ability. The real test is a 17 hour flight from Asia on your iPod...no problem. Ears felt fine at the end of the flight. It was if I spent a great day with Pink Floyd in my head...chilled an lost in the brilliance of David Gilmour's soaring guitar solos.

    not for everyone

    • Written by from Gresham

I bought the B&W C5 for 2 reasons. I wanted a really good sounding in-ear headphones. B&W has a good reputation for their products and these DO sound very good. the 2nd main reason: I need a pair that stays put in my ears when I'm at the gym or doing any outdoor activities. for me, this is where they fell way short. I was intrigued by the design. seemed like a good way to solve my problem of the in-ear pods that always fall out or need to be secured constantly. I tried all the different sized "bud" adaptors that came with but nothing solved the problem. running on a treadmill, doing sit-ups or even mowing the lawn, these C5s never stay in. I really wish there could've be someway to try before buying I could've gone with a different brand. again, these do sound really good BUT given my main reason as fit I'm only giving these 2 stars.
