This product was a dream come true.

Sadly, it has stopped charging my phone just under 4 months on use.

Contacted Philips support and got pushed around in circles.

completely useless -- stay away from this product

    What I like:
-Great sound quality, especially with the bass booster.
-Gradual volume increase when the alarm goes off.
-Shows the date and day of the week.

    What I don't like:
-The display is sort of small.
-Setting the alarm takes some getting used to. Lots of steps involved.

DO NOT BUY - WORST CONSUMER PRODUCT EVER

I bought this dual dock clock radio less than two weeks ago. Barely a week in, it stopped working. It still charges the devices, but I could have had two chargers for $29. The clock doesn't work, the radio doesn't work, the speakers don't work. It's a worthless piece of garbage sitting on my shelf, having cost me a lot of money and with no chance to return it because of course I don't have the packaging - so Apple won't take it back. They make sure it lasts just long enough that you throw out the box. Do not buy this product - it is the single worst thing I have ever bought from an Apple store.

    Worst alarm clock ever

The looks of this clock are great, sleek simple design which is the reason I bought it. Once you use it is when you start asking yourself what idiot designed this thing. I like to use the snooze bar and what they have done is they have put the off button for the alarm right next to the snooze bar. So when I'm swinging my arm over at 6am 50% of the time I'm turning the alarm off by accident. So what I thought was great design when bought it has turned out to terrible design when I used it.

Please fix iOS 5 to restore DC390 accessory support for iPod touch

    • Written by from Nashville

11 of 12 people found this useful

We bought this as a Christmas present for my son on Black Friday. It was a featured product during the one day event. He has the latest generation iPod touch with the latest update of iOS 5.

Even though it is clearly listed as a compatible device, IT DOES NOT WORK WITH iPod touch with iOS 5.0.1.

"dual docking system lets you experience rich, clear sound from your iPod, iPhone, or iPad—while charging two of them at once."

His iPod touch charges in either Dock 1 or Dock 2, but neither one will allow music to be played through the accessory. It displays the error "The accessory is not supported by iPod touch." whenever you first attempt to play music.

At first, I thought the radio was just defective. Then I tried two different iPhone 4S, two iPad 2, and another latest gen iPod touch that has not yet been upgraded to iOS 5. ALL of them worked fine to play back music. But as soon as I connect my son's iPod touch, I get the same error message with no music playing off the speakers.

From this, it appears that iOS 5 removes DC390 iPod touch support for latest gen iPod touch. (both iPhone 4S and iPad 2 are running iOS 5.0.1)

I don't want to return the radio because my son loves it and the sound is pretty good for an alarm clock. If it worked as indicated by the listed device support it would have received a 4 out of five star rating.

    Additional review comments:

    1. Sound quality is nice and can be loud if desired.
    2. Radio and remote are convenient and nicely built, but with sub-par user interfaces (UI).
    3. The UI for the radio is not very intuitive. The controls are not well labelled for setting the time, alarm, or programming radio station presets. You will likely need to use the manual to set it up or make changes to common settings.
    4. The LCD panel is not very easy to see due to a very narrow viewing angle. (not sure what to expect from $150 radio)
    5. The dimming feature is nice, but is trumped by the poor visibility.

Maybe I am the one can't get it to work. 19 out of 20 times I get "The accessory is not supported by iPod touch" error message on my iPod. Looking at other reviews, it seems other people experience the same problem. Anyway, I will return this.

Great sound and clear radio reception

I really love this clock radio. My older radio had problems picking up my local NPR stations. I use NPR as my wakeup alarm. I was nervous about the radio reception quality because I haven't seen anyone else mention how good it is. The signals are strong and clear. And WOW, the sound is really great with nice bass and full midtones. I also love the gradual volume on the alarm. no loud shocking noise when it goes off. The other features are well thought out and user friendly too. After much research on which is the best iPhone clock radio This DC390 model by Philips is the "clear" winner.

Many factors lead to low rating here...

I received this today and the alarm would NOT let me choose FM (or buzzer) as a way to wake up. Called Philips. They could not find the problem. Had me send info for a replacement and I did, but have not heard back from them yet.
Documentation is spotty at best and does not give directions for using your idevice specifically with this alarm radio. I could not get my ipad OR my ipod to work as an alarm on this so I believe the software is buggy.
Also, they do not tell you that you cannot charge 2 ipads at once (even though they say any combination). A sticker right on the device says Dock 1 will NOT support an ipad.
Will revise if and when I ever get a fully functioning unit.
Lastly, when speaking to them, I gave them the serial number of the unit and they told me it was out of warranty. Bought through the Apple store 5 days before today?! That part is corrected but what else is screwy?!

Terrible Product combined with Bad Customer Service

    • Written by from Vancouver

This is the most unreliable product. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes snooze works, sometimes it doesn't. An alarm clock needs to be reliable for obvious reasons. When I dock my iphone, sometimes it says it doesn't support the device. Next time I dock it, it works.

I cannot use the sleep function, because if I do, then the alarm doesn't go off the next morning.

And then when I tried contacting their customer service (email), it takes them at least 3 days to get back to me each time. And their responses and suggestions are not helpful. One time I got the exact same email as earlier- just cut and paste responses.

I will never buy another Philips product again.

This product is not good because of the low quality LED that causes the display screen to flicker.

The display is the most important feature in a product such as this. As such, it is not worth the price.

Good sound, and plays any apple product! Two at a time, charges both. Hands down best dock ever! At a reasonable price. I only paid $109 for mines, because of the sale on black friday. With tax and all!And it came fast to my house. Im listening on my iPad 2, and iPod nano, and soon to come iPod touch.

I've had several docks since my first iPod in 2005. I've owed iHomes, Sony docks, and Bose, but this one, is the coolest, easiest, nicest one I've owned. It's great to charge both my 4S and iPad 2 at once. I wouldn't trade it for another dock.

    This unit WOWED ME

From the moment I opened the box I was impressed, this clock looked like a much more expensive unit, the sound quality is close to the quality of the Bose Wave Radio. Easy to setup and the time sync with my iPhone was fantastic. Overall a great unit, and at $50 off the regular price it was well worth the purchase that I bought 2 of them.

    Barely lasted a year

I had heard bad reports of Philips's reliability--sadly, this proved them right. I barely had this a year. It quit playing music from my iPhone, none of the buttons on the unit would work if anything was docked to it, and as of yesterday the display looks like it's written in Klingon. Even when it was working, the radio reception never was very good, and it is a pain to dock the iPad--you have to line it up just so. I won't be buying Philips anymore!

Apple products are known for being simple and intuitive. This appliance by Philips is the opposite. Difficult to program. Not compatible with newest iphone in one of the docks. Save you $150 and try something different. I wish I could return it.

    Love, love, love this dock!

Researched this purchase quite a bit up front, and thought this was hands-down the better product. The finishes are great, not cheap and plastic from the large majority of the competition. The sound is great, works perfectly as an alarm, and it recognizes a playlist specifically for the unit if you create one--otherwise it randomly selects from your music.

The instructions for setting up alarms was a bit vague, but with perserverance it works very well. The alarm feature allows for weekend, M-F, or seven day alarms. You can set up two different alarms.

Con (for me) was no AM band for the radio, but not a deal-breaker.

I would recommend this to anyone that is OVER charging cables everywhere, wants to charge two devices at a time, likes to wake to music, and wants a nice clock in the room. Looks and works great!

I bought this last week and have been practically hooked on to it. With an Ipod and Ipad full of sings, this device has been overworking for me.
    The sound quality is excellent.
The radio is not too great. Did not scan all the channels.
