Beautiful industrial design, charges ipod and ipad 2 simultaneously. Decent sound quality (I haven't blasted it yet...only used for quiet night time music).

My only problem is the ipad is a little hard to get docked, especially if the Smart Cover is on. A few times I thought I docked it, but in the morning realized the plug was only wedged betweeen the smart cover and the ipad!

The remote control works but I wish it were a little more hefty. It feels so lightweight that it's kinda like a toy remote. If the line of sight is blocked, the remote doesn't work very well.

Overall, this is a beautiful piece of equipment that works well with your ipod/ipad.

    Not quite right

    • Written by from Belmont

Sounds great, looks great. Unfortunately it does NOT have battery back-up. If power is lost the alarm and time are re-set. I confirmed this with Philips who pointed out that the documentation shipped with the product describes this. How stupid is that? They couldn't tell me what the batteries actually do.

Also, whenever my phone is docked, the radio cuts out for 3-15 seconds on a seemingly random basis.

    Best Bang For Your Buck!

    • Written by from Winston

I just recently received this item as a gift. I was immediately impressed with the sound quality. It does only play FM stations. But, if you have an iPhone, iPad, or iPod you can download apps through the app store, connect it to this baby & it will play the radio through the device!

I have owned a Bose stereo, & if you know the company. They produce High Quality audio at a high price tag. Where as this device sounds almost..if not just as good. It has several sound options to adjust to what type of music your listening to. So if you want a quality item for a fraction of the price..look no further! I absolutely love it! :-D

    Bang for your buck

I received this as a gift. From once I set it up I was impressed. I researched the dock and I saw the price and it was priced just right. It has great fidelity and a deep powerful bass. If your on a budget and want a simple dock that will go with any piece of furniture in your home I recommend this dock.

Great Price, great sound and very practical

    • Written by from Palm Beach Gardens

My IPhone and IPad are always with me, so the dual charging, quality sound and alarm clock/tuner are the perfect addition to my nightstand. Seems very well made and most importantly, didn't have to remove the protective cover from either my IPhone or my IPad. Thank you Santa.....

    Philips DC291

    • Written by from Nashua

Purchased the DC291 to replace an aging music dock that won't charge our newer iDevices. After testing a number of similar docks, this was the only one that my iPhone 4s in an OtterBox Commuter case could dock with. While it's a snug fit, the phone works great with this dock. The sound is solid, even at volumes beyond what we'll be using it for (kitchen music player).

Overall, the DC291 has a sleek design and good features. Time sync worked out of the box – I just plugged in the phone and the date/time on the dock was set. The remote works well for controlling music from the iPhone/iPad, and even works with Pandora (pause and skip songs). Also, the 4s mic still picks up when docked, for using Siri to control songs/playlists. It also played and charged everything I plugged into it – iPod classic (5th gen), iPhone 3gs/4, and iPad 2.

So far only a couple of potential minor issues. The display is hard to see from extreme vertical angles, so depending on your use, this may be an issue. It's not an issue from most angles though. I also had trouble getting my iPad 2 connected when in its case (Targus Rotating 360), but when removed from case, it docked perfectly and was very stable.

Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase!

    worked for about 9 months

then in the fall of 2012, I started getting error messages about being incompatible with iPhone. I have the 4GS; did a software upgrade to the phone eliminate the utility of this as an iPhone speaker? It appears so. The docks will still charge the iPhone, but it stopped communicating to the Philips speakers. I'm surprised the Apple Store is still selling it. The compatibility list for this device needs to be updated.

    No AM Tuner!

    • Written by from Baker

I didn't read the description well enough.....no AM tuner! I had never seen a radio without it, so was quite surprised.
I have trouble docking my iPad when it's in the Apple iPad case.
