Great device, but a pricey one for what it is

    • Written by from West New York

I was in my local Apple Store last week, and saw this on the shelf so I decided to get it. Setting it up was easy enough, and it was charged up in about four hours. As previously mentioned, the one major glitch is that you never get a 100 percent reading, even when it's fully charged up; the best I've seen is 90 percent. I must have a later model, as mine came with a micro USB cable, instead of the mini USB one others had mentioned. I haven't had it long, but I think I'm going to keep it.

I would recommend this to a friend with the caveat that it really does cost much more than it's worth, IMHO.

    Love it!!

    • Written by from LAWRENCEVILLE

I bought this because I really despise changing batteries. The first one I got would not charge due to a small error on the design of the fit. Unfortunately, as we all know, with any computer products, it only takes a small error, especially with new products. I brought it back and exchanged it with the thought mistakes happen. My replacement fit perfectly, and I am SO happy I exchanged it instead of simply giving up. I absolutely love it. I use my Magic Mouse all day, every day and the Magic Charger just keeps it trucking along without having yo change batteries. I don't have to worry about battery disposal, nor do I have to swap out rechargeable batteries. It's well worth the cost in the lack of hassled actor overall. Just place it on the charging platform and it charges. Sweet!

    Excellent accessory!

    • Written by from Leesburg

I burned through batteries with my Magic Mouse very quickly. I didn't like that idea and was contemplating the purchase of rechargable batteries when I came across the Mobee Magic Charger. The concept of not having to remove batteries for charging was very attractive so I bought the unit.

I have not been disappointed, it works a treat. There are reviews here and elsewhere that discuss the details about battery level and keeping the batteries charged, I won't go into that detail. I'll just say this is an excellent solution that works. I put the mouse on the charge pad whenever I'm away for a while so the mouse is always ready to go.

It is worth noting, as have others, that no charger is actually provided which is why I give it only 4 stars. The manufacturer expects the computer to charge it via USB. But if the computer is off that doesn't work, so buy a charger of at least 2 amps or use an iPad/iPhone charger. Also, beware of reviewers who cannot figure out which way the charging pad is placed. One review I read the guy had the charging pad upside down, despite the rubber feet and shiny white plate that the mouse sits on. When it didn't work he had to call Mobee. Do I trust the rest of his review? i think not! Sad.

Just a quick note to emphasize the charger's power requirement. I first plugged into a USB powered hub, but that didn't provide sufficient amperage to charge it in a reasonable time. A dedicated charger is best, the iPad 10amp charger works very well with it.

Enjoy this product and free yourself from the battery monster!

    Once Installed Right, Works Great

    • Written by from Riverton

The Mobee Magic battery pack does NOT install easily into the Apple Magic Mouse. The tiny metal part that sticks out (the part that touches the Magic Mouse and completes the battery circuit) breaks extremely easily. However, once the battery pack is installed correctly it works amazingly! It charges easily, quickly, and you never have to take it back out once you finally get it in. I would definitely buy this again (and did), but be very careful when you install it. It would be great to see Mobee improve on their design and either get rid of, or improve, that tiny metal part.

    Works well, super convenient

    • Written by from Cedar Park

I have been using this charger for about a month now, and I am pretty happy with it. My only complaint would be that the charging indicator is inaccurate in on the Mac. From what I understand, that is because the batteries are 1.25, instead of 1.5 volts. It can be a little annoying because you really never know what the actual charge level is. That is the only reason I give it 4 stars out of five, and that might be a little unfair since that is really an Apple software issue.
So far I have been able to keep it off the charge for as long as a week before needing to recharge it.
I really don’t understand the confusion over how to install the batteries. It seems like it really only goes in one way, and once it is in there, it seems very secure. I don’t see any normal scenario where it would fall out if it were installed properly.
Good product so far, and so much more convenient that switching out rechargeable batteries every couple of weeks.

I have to remember to 'park' it

    • Written by from Reston

I got this as a replacement for poorly performing (not Apple brand) rechargable batteries. The one anomaly I have is that the battery charge level is not reported to the Apple Mouse system preferences (as evidenced by no update on the battery status on the menu bar.) Battery life is pretty good, I've run for 4 or 5 days of hard use without draining the battery.

So I'd rate this as a good product, that performs as expected. But I'm not sure how long I'd need to use this before it paid for itself in conventional alkaline batteries bought in bulk.

Great Product - Works like it should.

I've had this product for almost a year now. I love it. I've seen some of the other reviews and I think as long as you use it right it works fine. Turn it off when you charge it and it charges and holds a charge fine. I use mine every day for work and will probably be buying another one for a second computer.

    Mobee Magic Charger

    • Written by from Prescott Valley

I received the charger as a Christmas gift and was delight. My Mouse had an appetite for batteries that was beginning to get expensive, so this was a terrific. I plugged the unit it into the USB on my iMac and it began charging immediately. After 24 hours it was still charging? After a close inspection of the batteries into the mouse I realized I had not completely seated and locked it into place. A little fiddling and the batteries snapped into the mouse and it was on-line and working just fine. However, I have noticed a couple of oddities.... First, if it's not centered on the charger it will not give a steady green light when fully charged. Second, if I notice a long time blinking while on the charger, I move the mouse in a small, perhaps 1" circular motion, center it up and the green light goes to steady. Strange? Last thing is my fault! I need to get into the habit of placing the mouse on the charger when I'm finished! I would definitely recommend this to all Mac users who are tired of feeing their mouse expensive batteries..

    Works great!

    • Written by from San Antonio

I love saving money and the environment. The only complaint I have about it is that the status on the battery is not correct. I had almost 80% left on the battery and then it just shut down. So after I recharged it, it was fine. I now place it on the charger every other day to keep my mouse charged.
I recommend this to everyone. No more trying to see if I still have AA batteries available. I plan to also buy the same product for my keyboard.

    So Far, So Good

    • Written by from Lake Worth

Reading reviews here and other locations I was not sure about purchasing this product. Took the plunge yesterday. I studied the various sources regarding proper installation of the battery pack before proceeding (thank you early adopters!!) and in my case the battery pack installed smoothly and charged up in about 5 hours. No problems to date and most importantly, the periodic mouse disconnects are gone!!

All good except for. . .

    • Written by from Wanganui

I haven't experienced most of the complaints noted on here.
The fit, the look, the connectivity, have all been fine.

My only complaint is the reported battery level indicator.
As many have stated, it only reports 80% at full charge.
Well mine only shows that for maybe an hour and then shows 2%. . . sometimes it only shows 2% at full charge (based on the solid green light indicating fully charged).
This means I can never know when it's going to die. I still have to keep a secondary mouse available just in case.
One user said he puts it on charge anytime he's not using it. This means the battery life will degrade way sooner than expected.
As stated in another review, it would good if Apple produced an alternative indicator suited to this device.

    Great Product

    • Written by from Mayfield

This product works as advertised but needs far better instructions. First off you cannot simply drop the battery pack into the mouse. It must be tilted far enough to allow the lip to completley engage, and then to make sure the lock in fully engage, otherwise the battery pack will fall out. If you do it right the pack stays in place. You will never see 100% charge due to the type batteries the unit uses. When it shows around 80% charge and the green light is lit it is fully charged. I like the fact that it is a USB charger but you do use one of your limited USB ports. That is why a mliti-port USB adapter is a wise investment. Macs do not have enough USB ports as we all know. All in all this product is well built, looks good, takes up very little room, and works as advertised.

    Great Product That Needs Tweek

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I was going to have to return this. It just didn't work. Then I checked the reviews here and the reviewer "Cardiff" said that he fixed his by bending the solo prong a little. That made mine work too! Bless Cardiff!

Hopefully it will keep working and I'll never have to worry about buying batteries again. I love the Magic Mouse but it eats batteries far too fast.

Setting the record straight for those that has had bad experiences

    • Written by from CALGARY

    Some past reviews complained of:
    1. Charger not working properly
    2. Battery remaining indicator doesn't report properly in OSX
    3. Battery fit and finish is awful and inconsistent
    4. Charger base dies an early life
    5. Battery falls out
    6. Mouse bluetooth connectivity randomly fails

Of these 6 major complains I can say this:
    1. Charger MUST not be placed on the aluminum base of the iMac or a metallic surface. The system works by using inductive charging. Metallic surfaces will completely render the charger useless. Place it on a wood desk and it will charge the battery fine.
    2. Normal alkaline/lithium AA batteries operate at 1.5 volts/battery. NiMH and Ni-Cad rechargeables are designed to work at 1.2 volts / battery. This 0.3 volts difference in the cells explains why the battery % indicator in OSX doesn't report 100% charge b/c of this voltage difference. Apple SHOULD allow users of OSX to select the type of battery that is installed in their input devices so that the battery % indicator is more representative of what is the actual life instead of basing on the assumption that battery cell voltage is always 1.5 volts / battery when in a 100% state.
    3. Battery fit and finish in fact is excellent on the unit I purchased. The key is to pay close attention to the install. Place the upper portion of the battery into the mouse first and tip the battery into the mouse and engage the locking tab. Press firmly down on the battery further until you can manually move the locking tab into the fully engaged position. Once locked the slight outward pressure of the battery pack will keep it locked in place. I've banged my mouse around deliberately on my desk to make the battery pack disengage and fall out. So far so good.
    4. Can't comment on the charger's life expectancy but it does carry a 1 year warranty through Mobee Technologies and if you purchase it on a credit card then your warranty is doubled to 2 years anyways.
    5. Please refer to point 3 and FULLY engage the lock tab on the bottom of the mouse. Don't just press fit it in, press firmly and LOCK the tab in place so it fully catches the edge of the lock tab cutout.
    6. Can't say that in the few days I've used the mouse that I've lost connectivity. Some reports have said that the connectivity loss is a direct result of the battery falling out. If point 3 is followed then there should be no reason why the mouse would stop communicating with your computer.

Overall after paying very close attention to the fine details of the charger and battery pack I give it a 4 star rating. Pay particular attention as to how the battery should be installed (tuck upper portion of the battery into mouse FIRST and then firmly lock the tab on the bottom. Last but not least don't place the charger on ANY metal surfaces (esp the foot of the iMac base).

    Recommendations to improve this product:
    1. Include detailed install instructions so that others can't inadvertently try to drop the battery pack into the mouse without first tucking in the upper edge. Common sense isn't so common for some users.
    2. Not related to product - Apple OSX needs to revise their battery reporting schema to allow users to tell OSX what type of batteries their using.
    3. Price - This unit isn't cheap. Consider that you can buy the equivalent eneloop batteries for HALF the cost to accomplish the same result is a tough sell for some.
    4. HAVE a CLEARLY VISIBLE warning to product users to NOT place the charger on metallic surfaces. It simply doesn't work when sitting on metal or the base of the iMac.
    5. Include a passthrough USB cable so that it can still be plugged into a computer BUT allow another USB device cable to be plugged into it.
    6. Speed up charging times to about 1 hour vs. 6.

    Brilliant - initial install fiddely

    • Written by from Cardiff

this product has a real good apple like quality to it the docking station looks great and the battery pack has the same finish as the original battery housing. However this product has its flaws. It did not work for me straight out of the tin. To note my magic mouse was also brand new. The problem lies with the battery it charges fine when on the dock but the connectors don't match up to the mouse so no power to the mouse or green light. I solved this issue by bending the solo connector down a bit, it points up. that simple put battery back in and it worked.
