Yes. This scanner actually gives you the option to write (and has a hardware button specifically for) PDF files. You can also select PDF in the software, if you choose to load it instead of using the hardware buttons.

i am only interested in scanning images, not on text recognition, and on getting a scanner that is portable and mac compatible. can I just scan images
and not use the OCR feature?

How would this work for keeping tack of medical bills?
So many medical bills from so many different doctors and hospitals it's hard to keep track of. Will this help show what is being paid and what needs paid.

All the reviews about neat receipts seem to be about scanning business card - but what about scanning receipts? Does it work well?

Yes, any documents with numerical text works fine. Our office would spend a week completing employee time sheets, expenses, and then reconciliation with invoicing. Now we have it completed in two days. Hand written recognition is great, but all data then must be manually transferred to columns. Where text that is typed, is captured and 90% of the numerical information is transferred from the receipts to the ledger columns accurately.

How well does the NeatReceipts for Mac work on a MacBookPro from 2006?
The NeatReceipts for Mac looks great, but can it be stored on an external hard-drive.
Will it slow down my computer even when not in use. I have approximately 53GB left on a 119.69GB capacity MacBookPro.

I'd like to share this with my business partner who is a Windows user? Is it a hybrid disc or do I have to additionally buy the Windows disc?

Answer
You have to buy a windows disc. Then you can use the same scanner. After that you can transfer information back and forth easily by saving it in the proper format and then exporting to your Documents file to send out. I have both systems, it has worked well.
