Best AnswerSmart case is rubber on back and front. cover is rubber or leather on front. smart cover was made for a more design friendly cover with very nice colors. the smart case was built to be able to have a similar design with more protection.

AnswerThe Apple store employees told me personally that the smart case is better fitted for the ipad 3 and 4 than the ipad 2 since they're both a little thicker than the ipad 2 and be more snug.

Because the iPad is so slippery, I am looking for a case that has good traction. Is the polyurethane a good choice to prevent sliding?
- Asked by Joseph K from Roscoe

AnswerI love the Smart Case. I've had it for over 6 months now and it has held up well. The polyurethane surface has a nice, almost suede-like feel, so it does prevent slipping when you hold it.

Answer
A magnet is in the lip of the fold furthest from the hinge. When that magnet comes over the right most edge of the iPad, the iPad senses the magnet and takes action, dimming the screen and executing the lock function if you are set to do so. Very smooth, elegant operation.
I give my case a quick snap of the wrist of the hand that holds my ipad from the right side; flipping the hinged tri fold lid up. The lid unrolls and flips into place and shuts off the screen in a ½ second rotate, expand and close action. A brisk 'snap-flap' action. (the ninja lid :-)- Answered by William C from Bristow

engravings: I Pad Polyurethane cover, how many letters/spaces can be used?
- Asked by Cindy F from Mount Laurel
- Dec 1, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerThe best way is not to count letters but to use the Apple Store web site to start the purchase and then fill out your message options. You get to see what it will look like right in your browser before paying for it. You can easily tinker with the engraving "simulator" all day getting just the right look to your message right in your browser. (kinda fun)

AnswerWith the ipad mini, you can only have the Smart Cover, which only covers the front. That will show the engraving on the back. The iPad mini does not have a Smart Case. Yet.
