When this is full can I plug another into my computer without having to remove the full one? I'm looking for a kind of "linked" system?
I'm looking for a storage solution - I'm a photographer so constantly move client images from my mac to external devices to save the memory on my mac. However I have several external hard drives floating around and forget whats on each device. Is there some way I can link all the drives together and search them from my computer without having to unplug one and plug in the next one every time I'm looking for files?? Thanks so much.

Answer
Yes to both questions. As part of the set up you first partition with an easy slider how much of the disk to be used by Mac, PC or both. USB 3 connections are backward compatible to USB 2.

I am looking at using the LaCie 3TB USB 3.0 Porsche Desktop harddrive to do network sharing through my Airport Express. Will this work?
I am currently using a Seagate Hard drive that uses a wall power supply, however after reformatting, the Airport Extreme doesn't recognize the hard drive.. I just want to make sure if i go out and buy a new one, that it will work.

Can two computers share the same external hard drive?

Best Answer
Yes, and no...
Two computers can use the drive, but not at the same time. You'll have to "eject" the drive from the desktop of one computer, then physically unplug it before it can be used on the next computer.
Time machine can store backups for both computers on the drive, but can only do it one machine at a time.- Answered by Glenn T from Lemont

Can the P9233 be powered by USB port to the Macbook? Or does it need an external power cable to the power socket? Thanks

Best Answer
This hard drive does need an external power supply to work. However they do make a portable version, the P'9223, which doesn't need an external power supply. Only downside is the maximum size is 1TB.

Can I use this with time capsule and also stream my iTunes and iPhoto to IMac, iPhones, Air?
Currently I have my music and photos stored on several locations but would prefer it stored in one location and update all devices when I add/remove items.
I use my time capsule as a backup storage unit.- Asked by Ameesh S

can I use this drive to just back up my iphoto.

Answer
Of course you can. Just point iPhoto to wherever you need to store your photos. Actually, if you can locate your current iphoto library on your hard drive, simply move it to your new drive (copy/paste) location. The next time you launch iPhoto, it will ask which library you wish to use, and will list the new location in the drop down box. Just click on it to save and point iPhoto and you'll be good to go.

connecting two in series
I want to use two La Cie external hard drives, the first baccking up my mack and the second providing backup to the first. Can this be done by simple connection in series?

Answer
It is not done by one drive backing up the other but by two drives backing up your Mac, The result is the same. Below are two ways of doing this.
Do you have Mountain Lion? If so, it allows you to designate two drives to which to backup your Mac. It will alternate its hourly backups between the two LaCie drives and will continue backing up to one if the other is disconnected.
If you do not have Mountain Lion and do not want to buy it, then you can use Disk Utility to configure two LaCie drives as a RAID 1 volume, then designate that volume as the backup target for Time Machine. TM data will then be written to both disks so if one fails your backup will still be on the other one.- Answered by David V from Bowral

I emailed the manufacturer about the drive. They said that the LaCie USB 3.0 drivers used with PCI cards are currently not compatible with Mac OSX Mountain Lion and there are no plans to update these drivers at this time. The P’9230 should otherwise work on Mountain Lion via USB 2.0.
The P'9233 works with USB 3.0 on Mountain Lion. That's the difference between the two.- Answered by Dan S
