Will it format novels, not just screenplays?

I see the software formats screenplays. Does it also format novels for submission to agents?

Final Draft does include templates for novels and other text documents. Some writers have been using it for novels, but it is primarily for TV and Film screenwriters, as well as theater writers.

  • Final Draft is really aimed at writing scripts for movie/tv/theatre. If you're after software to write novels with, I strongly recommend yWriter5 from Spacejock Software. It's simple and easy to use (and free) and is great for managing/planning your novel.

As for formatting for submission; I'd suggest contacting the agent before sending your novel. Some agents only want a cover letter, a brief 1-page synopsis, and the first few chapters. It's usually double-spaced, with 2.5 cm minimum borders either side, single sided in Courier New size 10.
