The earlier iHM77 makes a loud buzz/hiss when both the USB and audio connectors are plugged in. Does this new model iHM79 have the same problem?

Yes it does, if you have the USB and audio plugged into the same computer at the same time, there is a very loud and noticeable hiss that almost makes the speakers unusable. If you plug in audio only, it's fine. If you plug in audio to your laptop and plug the USB into an AC/USB adapter it's also fine.
