Having other devices will this work on my Nano (6th gen.) as well as other smart phones and non-Apple MP3's?

The PMX 680 works with all devices while having a 90 degree jack pin which some people prefer - especially athletes using iPod's for serious activities. I see the PMX 680i has a straight jack pin. What is the benefit of the 680i and can I still use it on other devices?
