Yes it can. As long as you have a thunderbolt port. I just bought one today at the local BigBox store on clearance for one and a half Benjamin's less. I was surprised how fast it was on my 2011 imac. I did a quick benchmark and found it was twice as fast as my internal 2gb hard drive. I highly recommend it!

You can connect it to the newer models of iMac & macbook pro which have a thunderbolt port. There is no firewire or USB port on this drive though, so if you have an older iMac or Macbook pro (2011 & older) then you cannot connect this drive.

It can but I have had terrible problems with the thunderbolt connections. The imac wont recognise the WD drive if you have had the second Thunderbolt port connected an additional screen when running final cut pro. Check the boards. It's not the best I'm afraid.
