Will the Apple USB SuperDrive record to CDs, DVDs, and install new aps?

Yes. The SuperDrive will do all of the things mentioned in your question. Something to keep in mind: Make sure your Mac meets the requirements for the app you're trying to install. The SuperDrive only reads/writes CD's and DVD's. It cannot install an app if your computer fails to meet certain requirements set by the app.
