Can I fit two ATI HD 5770's in a 2008 MacPro 3,1? I'm worried about the height of each card as there are only two PCIe 2.0 slots available. Thank you.

Yes you can fit two but it may block one of your slower pcie slots. But there are two power connectors for two video cards on teh mother board and I know folks who are doing it. I also know it will be tricky to get the second card in once the first card is in the first slot. I have one 5770 and was using my 8800 as well but the 8800 just fried. I am going to put my older ati 2600xt in so I can run four monitors.
There however have been issues with the 5770s in general. They sometimes produce green pixels in the black parts of your desktop if you have a black picture or something with a lot of black like a widescreen movie with black bars, Some folks have them and some don't. I had some issues with my 30 inch and the dvi port of the 5770, now I have the mini display port to dual link dvi adapter and some of my issues are gone. Search the discussions there are quite a few posts on the 5770. Hope that helps.- Answered by Lance M from Piermont

Yes, this will work for a Mac Pro 3.1. There are two x16 slots and it does block one of the slower slots. I have an eight core machine and have done it. Still working out the various settings and configurations to work with my monitors but that is a setup issue. More tech advice from Apple would REALLY be appreciated.

Actually I have seen a Mac Pro 2008 with two similar cards installed. But, they were not able to use all of the bays for the hard drives and had to remove all but one of the four. I personally wouldn't want to do that to such a fine machine but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Are you sure you only have 2?. I have an early 2008 3.1 and have 4 slots.

No you can't. This graphics card requires the equivalent space of two PCIe 2.0 spots alone. You would need 4 open PCIe slots to fit 2 of these graphics cards. If you look at the picture of the graphics card you will see that one slot on the back of the mac would be used for ventilation and the other slot for the ports.
