Can this be used for backing up an iMac hard drive?

I have less than 200GB of content on my iMac harddrive. Can I use this for backing up through Time Machine?

This would work perfectly for backing up an iMac. If you don't have a recent iMac, you won't be able to use the ultra-fast Thunderbolt option, but you will still be able to use USB.

  • Yes, or course! Just be sure that there is less consumed space on your iMac, than what the LaCie drive has as capacity.

You may be limited, though, by how many older/previous versions of larger files are retained, as OS X will delete older versions of file backups as newer ones are added.
