Since the back of the iPad is slick and it seems like this cover is as well, does anybody have problems with dropping or slipping off your lap?

No problems with that here. If you are... not wise and choose to dangle the keyboard and swing it around by the keyboard end of it... your ipad will go flying. It's a magnet case for connivence and I don't have sliding issues but if you're concerned about it you could probably find a rubberized back cover compatible with the 'smart cover' case (a case that allows for a magnet attached cover).
I use the CaseMate barely there cover for the back. It works just fine. The logitech keyboard on the front and then have a zip sleeve for it.
In general I would never just use this by itself, I would have a case or sleeve to go with it. That is my personal preference of keeping it safe from harm anyway.

I had no problems with this case, it worked well and nothing has happened to my iPad over the long time I have been using this case. I would highly recommend it, as well as the Smart Cover, which I have as well!

The back of the case is more of a brushed aluminum than a polished aluminum like the iPad, but if you have slip issues with the iPad, the case is also likely to seem slippery to you. A simple solution would be to use grip tape or a similar product on the back of the case. Some people have done a cheap DIY gripper using skateboard grip tape on the back of their iPad, you could do the same on the case (and not risk messing up your iPad).
