I have mac mini os x 10.5.8 can i download os x 10.6.8?
If I can is this free? either way how do i go about it as i feel as though i am going around in circles. Thanks

You can't download Snow Leopard, and it's not free. But you do need it to upgrade from Leopard to (Mountain) Lion (assuming your computer can run the latter), and it's a good upgrade to Leopard even if you can't go further.
Apple doesn't make it easy to find Snow Leopard by browsing, and it's disappeared from the retail Apple Store that I visit. But it's "only" highly endangered; not yet extinct. If you go to the Apple Store site, and then search for "Snow Leopard", a page comes up offering the Snow Leopard DVD for $19.99 with free shipping.
To put that in context, Snow Leopard originally cost $29 (for Leopard owners), at a time when major upgrades to Mac OS X normally cost $129.
You may also be able to find Snow Leopard from other vendors who carry stocks of old software (such as some of the Marketplace dealers on Amazon).- Answered by Thomas N from Marlborough
