Works as advertised
I bought a Blue Blue Bird Mic and this thing to use on my Mac. I was surprised at how well it worked after I adjusted the output l evel on the device. It's as lightweight as an empty cigar tube (almost like there's nothing inside of it) and feels a little cheezy, and the USB connection seems a little loose, but it works great. Simple plug and play. The sound quality is great. …

Noisy
This product feels cheap in the hand, and is incredibly noisy. The gain knob works well enough, but when using either a microphon e or a DI box connected to a guitar, the noise/gain ratio is absolutely terrible. In order to reduce the noise to acceptable levels, the volume in applications is far too low. I have been very disappointed with this purchase. Not going to buy another interface without hands on testing beforehand, because this has been a nightmare. …

Would the dock output of the iPad, via the USB camera connector, provide enough power for this preamp to work?
- Asked by P T D
- Sep 18, 2010
Answer
Excellent question. YES... but there is a caveat. Connecting the Icicle to the iPad via the USB came ra connector won't provide enough power and you will get a warning about how "the device uses too much power," and the iPad will ignore it.
HOWEVER, if you 1) connect the Icicle to a powered USB hub, and then 2) connect the hub's USB to the USB camera connector, you will be able to use an XLR mic connected to the Icicle - even ones that require phantom power. …- Answered by Billions M from New York
