Apple Recommends For

The reassurance of Premium Protection for your Mac.

LoJack for Laptops Premium is a theft recovery service with remote data and device protection, all backed by up to a $1000 Service Guarantee. The dedicated Theft Recovery Team will work to locate your Mac and get it back to you.

Get your laptop and your life back

If your protected computer is stolen, the Team uses the LoJack technology to track it, then works in parallel with local law enforcement to get it back in your hands.

Protect your vital data

As the data on your Mac can be as valuable as the Mac itself, LoJack for Laptops can help you remotely protect it from intruders and thieves. If your Mac is stolen or missing, you’ve got the power to remotely block access to it and the personal data it contains.

Stay in control of your data and identity

Use Data Delete to erase personal information and sensitive files remotely, blocking would-be thieves with a click. And you can prevent access to your Mac by freezing it remotely. Any attempt to use it displays a message from you on screen.

Geolocation to pinpoint your Mac

Geolocation can track your computer on an online map. It uses GPS or Wi-Fi to map your laptop’s current and past locations. Even when your laptop is safe and sound, you can see that LoJack for Laptops is on the case.

$1000 service guarantee

If the Team don’t recover your stolen computer or enable the Data Delete service, you could be eligible for a Service Guarantee payment of up to $1000. Conditions apply so please read the Service Agreement.

LoJack DID NOT work for me!!!

    • Written by from Seattle

After stupidly leaving my 4-month-old MacBook Pro 13.3 on an airplane I felt confident that I would either receive my recovered laptop or $1,000 compensation. I filed a police report as required and supposedly the investigation ensued. Due to fine print (lost/stolen outside the U.S.) I was not eligible for the compensation, and just had to hope that they could track down my property. In the few days following the event, the lucky new owner logged into the internet using my computer and LoJack was able to trace it: the laptop was still in Amsterdam. This, however, is where the search seemed to end. Apparently they needed more than those few log-ins, the associated IP address, and a police report to actually retrieve the laptop. The next step I was told was just to wait for more internet usage and hope that the thief would type some personal information into a website.
So either the new owner of my laptop has not logged in to the internet since January 31, 2010 (4 1/2 months ago as I'm writing this), or the hard drive has been replaced and I will probably never see it again.
Bottom Line: You're probably covered if you don't travel internationally with your computer and your thief isn't tech-savvy.

If you purchase this software and install it on your Mac in hopes of being able to trace your stolen computer. Keep this in mind if someone steals your computer and erases the hard drive they also erase the LoJack software and your computer will not be traceable.
I purchased this software for my son's MBP 2010 thinking I would be able recover it if stolen. It's been 3 months and no trace. The software needs to be installed in the computer's system Bios to be traceable.

    Works!

A University colleague had his MBPro stolen from a clinic. The guilty party was located..on the campus! Pretty sad! A patient who was a student had taken the mac.
Of course not many people would guess that they have to remove the hard drive to clean up the device!
Based on this I load it up on our families Mac's...Get the University discount!

i just wanted to correct you, apple doesn't allow lo jack to be in the bios/flash memory... so if they reformat the hard drive it will go away. I'm a professor at University of California, and i teach a course on security... i do a lab were they must install lo jack on a mac, and lo jack is just like any other program, it doesn't have any special bios/flash place where you can store it, if the hard drive gets reformatted...

So this is true if you have a password, so if your laptop is stolen it won't be able phone home, because the theft won't be able to login to the internet.

You can't track it as long as the stolen/lost laptop is not connected to any internet connection.
