Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter (for MacBook Pro with Retina display)

Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter (for MacBook Pro with Retina display)

Product Information

  • The 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone should trip over it, the cord disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Pro stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook Pro with Retina display.

The Original T, The L, and now MagSafe 2 with my MBP Retina display. I am a fan of the T design but the magnet holding it in is way to weak. I don't know if it is because its smaller profile, but I can barely touch my laptop without the thing falling out. It is becoming extremely annoying to the point where I might need to walk around with a brand new MBP with its power cord duct taped to it! I believe the magnets are in the systems itself but please Apple come out with a revised adapter with a second set of neodymium magnets in the charging tip to counter act the problem and grab the machine tighter. I'd rather it be bulkier and work properly. I understand the point that is supposed to break away, but not by a feather landing on it! We miss Steve Jobs. I hope this isn't the type of product glitches we will have to get accustomed to now. Apple is supposed to be Apple, This isn't Apple at all.

    If I sneeze it unplugs.
If someone shuts the door the change in air pressure makes it unplug.
As the tides shift it will unplug. If I sneeze it unplugs.

Forget about working with the computer on your lap.
The tiny magnet I used in nursery school to gather iron filings in the sandbox was stronger.
And it unseats so easily that time and time again when I think it's charging it's not.
Bad, bad, bad. For shame. And it is so easy to fix.

In November of 2013, I made the decision of buying the new retina MacBook Pro Retina and the computer was perfect for what I was using it for, but the MagSafe 2 let me down. My first MagSafe failed in about April of 2014 when the cord near the adapter had frayed and I had no choice but to buy a new one; also, the connection between the MagSafe 2 and my Mac felt a lot weaker than my old L-shaped MagSafe. As of right now (March of 2015), my second MagSafe 2 has just frayed and I've resorted to electrical tape rather than 80 dollars. Please fix this apple.

However, this charger is a complete outrage. Not only is it extremely over-priced, but it breaks within the year. I have no issue spending money on a great product. This is why I decided to buy a macbook retina. Unfortunately I have bought two of these chargers in the last two and a half years. They break consistently in the same two places over and over again. Apple has made no changes on the charger. I am paying my way through college and $80 is a lot of money to me. To be honest, I am disappointed to the point to tears. I need a charger to use my computer (As a graphic Design major using library computers is not an option) and I don't have enough money to buy one right now. So, I'm screwed. Thanks apple. You guys make great phones and computers but your charger is killing me. I'm upset, disgruntled, disappointed, and I'm not going to lie a little angry. Unless you're willing to spend 80 dollars once a year for a brand new charger I suggest... oh wait. Nothing. If you want a macbook retina you have to spend money you don't have on a charger that's going to break in 12 months. One star is being generous.
