The converter's magnet attaches to the power supply's old MagSafe connector very effectively. The magnetic connection between the converter and the MacBook isn't as strong. The problem is that the old MagSafe adapter and the converter is now long enough that leverage makes it very easy to disconnect from the MacBook. This is very annoying, especially if you hold the MacBook in your lap while using it.

Small and unobtrusive, works great with the Thunderbolt display. I'd rather be able to swap cords, but this is better than replacing the monitor!

As for the other reviewer complaining about having to replace his existing adaptors - that doesn't make sense. His existing adaptors work with his older machines, and with this they now work with his new machine. The only potential problem is if he is planning on a new location with only the new power adaptor... Inconvenient, sure - but hardly forced to buy a bunch of new stuff to replace his existing.

Really has turned me sour on Apple as it seems their solution to when a problem is there is like everyone else's... deny and keep it a secret... if they were really living up to their brand image they'd find a solution and make it right for us... it's not like they don't have enough money in the bank

Happened to both converters I have, making the stockpile of MagSafe adaptors pretty useless. Not only a wasted $20, but makes all those others adaptors I own pretty useless as well ($100s).

Design flaw. Apple should recall and replace these devices.

The fact that I have to have it to charge my Air from my Thunderbolt display seems to be very poor product design. I might let that slide if it actually worked. Sometimes I get lucky and when I plug it in, my Air charges. Most of the time it takes fiddling with it to get a good connection. What's even more annoying is that sometimes the connection goes away and the only way I notice it to happen to look at the battery icon and see that I'm running on battery. Not sure how this device got past QA.
