Thin, minimal design.
The slim, yet sturdy Smart Cover protects your iPad screen without covering up its durable aluminum back. So your iPad still looks and feels like an iPad — just with a little extra protection.
The Smart Cover is made of polyurethane and features a soft, color-matched microfiber lining that helps keep your display clean.
An aluminum hinge magnetically aligns the Smart Cover with iPad for a perfect fit. While magnets inside help it stay put.
The Smart Cover does double duty as a keyboard stand. Fold it back to tilt iPad into a comfortable writing position.
Wake on open. Sleep on close.
Open the Smart Cover, and iPad magically wakes up. Close it, and iPad automatically goes to sleep.
FaceTime and movie stand.
The Smart Cover folds in just the right places to become the perfect FaceTime and movie-watching stand.

It aligns perfect every time and makes a very handy stand whenever you need one. Keeps the screen clean as well however, the smart cover has damaged my iPad 2 on the side the magnet sticks to. It has left it scratched and ugly. If I had known it would do that, I would have bought another case or something that wouldn't damage the product. …

I got this case in pink and it gets so dirty so fast. It does not protect the back part at all which is what I see getting marked I got this case in pink and it gets so dirty so fast. It does not protect the back part at all which is what I see getting marked also. I would recommend getting a case that slides in and out like a pocket to protect it if you plan to carry it in a bag because it gets scratched easily. The case does NOT clean the screen as well as it claims to. …

Corner screen cracked - Cover just slipped off
This cover is slim, it slides into place easily and then fits snuggly. Unfortunately, it also comes off very easily. The first wee This cover is slim, it slides into place easily and then fits snuggly. Unfortunately, it also comes off very easily. The first week I had my iPad Air I took the ipad from the table to my couch and along the way - slam - the iPad slipped out of the cover, out of my hands and fell on the hardwood floor. One of the corners of the screen cracked immediately.
I do prefer slim - my iPhone has only the screen protector - but this cover gives you unconsciously the suggestion you can pick it up a certain way, when you can't. If you don't want to risk having your screen cracked - buy the case. It's also easier for traveling as the back is obviously protected. …

I wanted a case that did not take away from the beauty of my new iPad while making it more practical. This case is perfect. It is I wanted a case that did not take away from the beauty of my new iPad while making it more practical. This case is perfect. It is beautiful, simple, and functional. I've had it for a year and a half and it still works great, little dirty but completely functional. I think I will be upgrading to the Smart Cover to protect the back soon. …

NOT for travel.
I got my case today, and while it looks really snappy, it's utterly useless for the ONE REASON I bought the thing. I would NEVER u I got my case today, and while it looks really snappy, it's utterly useless for the ONE REASON I bought the thing. I would NEVER use this cover alone for travelling. It is far too flimsy and will not protect your device from even the most gentle trip through an airport x-ray machine.
I wouldn't even put it in a purse or day bag with this cover on it. It's guaranteed to fall off and you might as well not have it on at all. I'm sure that when my husband sees his, he'll want to send it back immediately.
This is extremely disappointing. I'm now forced to buy yet another hard case for travelling because that's why I own an IPad in the first place. …

Does the smart cover fit the ipad1?

Since the exterior of the iPad 1 and iPad 2 are the same dimensions it does fit the top of the scree Since the exterior of the iPad 1 and iPad 2 are the same dimensions it does fit the top of the screen. However, the iPad 2 has magnets built into the machine in order to respond to the magnets in the smart cover. This allows the cover to stay in place and be appropriately aligned. Also, this allows the cover to lock or awaken the screen. Essentially, the smart cover will not stay on the iPad 1 because there are no magnets. I would not recommend buying a smart cover if you only own an iPad 1. …

Can you use this case for first generation ipad
- Asked by Adam B from Dunlap

You can set it on the first generation iPad for temporary protection, but that is not it's intended You can set it on the first generation iPad for temporary protection, but that is not it's intended purpose. The magnetic bar on the side of the smart covers hooks, and auto-alligns, itself to the side of the magnetic iPad 2. When closed, it puts it to sleep, and opening it awakens it. Placing any smart cover on an iPad 1 will protect it but it may slide off. I recommend purchasing a cover for first generation iPad, because buying this adds unneeded features and most likely a higher cost. …
