Because it is a lithium polymer battery it needs to be charged fully then drain fully and charged fully etc... to keep it healthy. I get about 4 - 4.5 hours out of this if I i drain it and then charge it (like above). when i first used it like normal i only got about two hours until i realized that you had to do this. This is a great product and if you use it in this way you can even achieve as much as five hours! This is a great product and i would highly recommend it.

note: if you use this technique from the start, the battery heath can increase from what it was when you first get it.

Here is the truth: the MacBook battery is big, heavy, and will only get you an additional 2-2.5 hours of battery life under normal usage. Yeah, you need one. No, it is not great.

It was very, very nice to be able to keep my computer for almost the whole trip. I have read a lot of people saying that it last for 3 or 4 hours, but here is a tip, turn down the brightness level on the screen to as low as it can go (I can get by on a notch of 1 when there is a light on in the room). When on the lowest level, the battery lasts for around 5 hours, sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more. I would recommend this for someone who uses their MacBook for long periods of time.

The condition does say "replace soon", but it went through 4 yrs of college with me- aka treated like garbage. Battery now only last about 1.5 hr compared to it's original 6ish but after 5 years, I'll take it. Highly recommend.

Hers was a 2007 model with the same specs. They have both been great computers other than the batteries. First my mother's battery started to bulge. It had gotten so bad by the time she told me about it that it ruined the track pad button and it had to be replaced along with the battery. I replaced hers with a NewerTech aftermarket battery primarily because the Apple OEM battery was on backorder at the time. I purchased a replacement top case from eBay and replaced it myself.

Not long after this mine started to swell also so I replaced it with a genuine Apple part and did so before it had a chance to damage the computer. It is important to note that both batteries still held a great charge when they failed from swelling. A couple of years go by and my mom's NewerTech battery started to swell just like the factory battery did. I ordered another replacement from the Apple store and it is doing fine. Now my battery which appears fine says "Service Battery" and discharges at a rapid pace (about 45 minutes per charge). I don't know what the problem is with these batteries but there is definitely a problem. I purchased a new MacBook Pro with Retina display earlier this week. I don't know what I will do about the MacBook battery but I suppose I will continue to use it until it swells or dies.

Do you really thing a battery will stay charged 24/7/365 without plugging it in to FULLY charge that makes me LOL. Anyway I have had my MacBook 13" since 2008. That for those that cannot count is 6 years and guess what...my battery JUST NOW DIED!!! Ordered a replacement that should be at my house today. I must say I am very happy with all my Apple products and maybe those giving 1 star or 2 star should read instructions on how to care for you mac. BTW that is just MY observation ;)
