I have both types of cases on my MBP Retina and MacBook Air and both fit fine together. The neoprene is more protective for impacts such as dropping but the Speck Smartshell is better for scratches. Depends on which is more problematical for the way you use your devices. …More

It doesn't directly lead to overheating.. I'm still able to use it on a day-to-day basis with no problems.. Its just that theres an increase CHANCE of it heating up (not overheating) if you do something intensive...
