Have one bulb in the ceiling fan, one in a small lamp in the far corner of the room and one in an accent light behind my laptop while on its stand. Setup couldn't be easier... insert the bulbs and turn them all on, plug the signal unit into one of the open ethernet ports on your base station (cable included) and connect the AC adapter. Start the app up and press the button on the signal unit and you're all set. Bulbs at their highest setting are brighter than expected though still not as bright as conventional bulbs but that's to be expected. Really phenomenal option for people who work from home and want total control over the brightness of multiple lights to optimize their screen work. Price may seem steep but it is what it is. Though once you install it and use it you'll think it's worth every penny.

  • Great Product!

I read an article and decided to purchase this product over a much more expensive home lighting system. One day later....Extremely I read an article and decided to purchase this product over a much more expensive home lighting system. One day later....Extremely Happy! Product was very easy and simple to set up...in Fact my six year old did all of the connections and i downloaded the app. The light output is as good or better than your normal light bulb and the color combination you see and get its just makes it that much better. I installed one on my sons room and tried the gradually dimming feature and it worked on the first try. If you are considering spending over 4K on a full house lighting system....make sure you spend the $199 starter kit and you will be Happy you did. I will be ordering more bulbs as they become available to change the entire house to this new system.

App could use some tweaking to make it a bit easier to use as there was a bit of a learning curve. All in all, set up was very easy (less than 3 minutes). I have the starter pack and 2 additional bulbs. I'll be ordering 10 more today to set up more rooms. Groups are a bit of a pain to set up as you have to create a scene and from what I can figure out so far can only set up colors in a group from an existing photo. Colors can be adjusted on an individual light but won't save unless in a scene. Could be I need to spend even more time on the app. Fade function didn't work in my first few trials but again I expect this to be me just taking more time to figure everything out. I also haven't been able to get a group programmed on my iphone to appear on the home ipad for others to use. Not sure if there's a way but will be a pain to set them up on multiple devices. Only a 2 year warranty even though they say the light is good for 15. Having stated all the learning issues, it's a very cool product, easy to get started and in my opinion completely replaces a crestron type lighting system. It is expensive but much less than a home lighting system would be. I will continue to hopefully replace every bulb in the house as various sizes are hopefully released.

It's easy for the bridge to recognize all my Hue bulbs and I have no problem selecting between scenes or color whatsoever. It is just wonderful now to come home after a long hard working day and see my living room lit up in my favorite relaxing color. It brushes off all my tiredness immediately and made me feel happy. Glad Hue did not disappoint me!

As part of our effort to replace every lamp possible in our home with modern LEDs, we got the HUE system for the living room. Imme As part of our effort to replace every lamp possible in our home with modern LEDs, we got the HUE system for the living room. Immediately added to the starter pack and now have 7 lamps, mostly in recessed cans. When first purchased they worked great with Ambify to turn the room into a disco -- not so much since subsequent updates of IOS or some other app on the phone, not sure what. I have not tried Philips support but I do find the startup app companies building businesses around it (Ambify, Goldee) slow to respond, if at all, to tech support questions posted on their web sites.

I find it relatively easy to add bulbs though sometimes I have to move the bulb to a previously recognized (geographic) location for my bridge to recognize it. We have experienced frequent loss of bridge connectivity, where sometimes we have to turn off all the switches, turn them back on, reboot the bridge, fumble with the order of that, etc. Overall we love it though and the main inconvenience is the lack of a good simple wall controller so we don't always have to use the phone apps. Goldee is supposed to solve that but seems delayed getting to market. We tend to use mostly a few favorite saved and modified scenes (some based on photos of our own), and the default relax and concentrate settings. Dimming is what I've come to expect with LEDs: not very fine-grained, but it does work overall -- when things are working in general.
